How many Velvetisers do you reckon hotel, chocolate sell in December?

I have just completely run out a day ideas for stepmum and younger daughter and ordered another three because obviously I had to have one as well to demonstrate how it works 🤣
Literally, every person I know open down the land has one

I love mine and use it all the time. I have replaced wine for velvetiser hot chocolate as an evening treat and now drink about once a year!

@mintdaisy there we go. It practically falls under the same category as a health product.

I wonder more how many sit in the back of a cupboard unused- mine for a start!

What does it do that a saucepan, some milk, and your poison of chocolate can’t? For £100 I’d want it to cure my migraines and give me a daily back rub too.

I get the exact measure of hot chocolate, at the right temperature.
While it is heating I can prep DD's pills and the Guinea Pigs food, abd tidy bits in the kitchen without having to keep an eye on it.
It is very easy to keep clean, and it sits on the counter as it is used daily.
I don't do kitchen gadgets but this literally (and I used that word advisedly) helped (a bit) me keep my sanity whilst everything was crumbling around me in 2020/2021.

Topbird29 · 10/12/2022 15:07

The black forest hot choc is lovely - as is the salted clementine (this appears to be seasonal...so may have bought 2 boxes)....

CountZacular · 10/12/2022 15:14

I’m surprised at how popular hot chocolate is to justify spending so much on it. I think I probably only drink it 1-2 times a year. Even growing up is was more of a treat.

If you have one, do you find you use it all year round or just the winter months?

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 10/12/2022 15:22

I shouldn't have read this thread. Now I'm contemplating it.

EvilRingahBitch · 10/12/2022 15:22

I use mine enough to justify the space, but I've always been a hot chocolate fiend, as is DD.

I use Knoops flakes, Cadbury's powder or posh free trade powder (Clipper/Green & Blacks) which is still a lot cheaper than Hotel Chocolat.

Eventually presumably they'll have sold one to everyone in the country who fancies one, and will have to make up the difference on selling the flakes.

7eleven · 10/12/2022 15:24

I’m sat having one right now! I’ve got a Hazelnut Praline. Yum. Use it all the time.

LeakyTapTap · 10/12/2022 15:24

Buy a milk frother on amazon for half the price. Does exactly the same thing, and you can use any hot chocolate you like. I paid £30 for mine last year and use it for coffee too!

Justthisonce12 · 10/12/2022 14:41

I mean they kind of would say that wouldn’t they but I wasn’t prepared to take any chances, so I’ve ordered six packets 😝

I put another brand of powder in mines and put in my travel mug. When I emptied the mug later there was a clump of powder at the bottom so I’m guessing the powder doesn’t mix as well as the hotel chocolat flakes

Var57 · 10/12/2022 15:34

Has anyone done a side-by-side comparison of a milk frother vs a velvetiser? I used to think it was an unnecessary gadget, but I recently had a hot choc made in a velvetiser and it was unlike any other I have ever had (and I'm no spring chicken). It was so light and a perfect temperature.

starfishmummy · 10/12/2022 15:35

scrivette · 10/12/2022 14:37

It says on the instructions not to put any other powder in the velvetiser, so I put the powder in the cup and add the hot frothy milk.

Powder??? I assumed they'd be for using with flakes of actual chocolate.

Hmm gone off the idea of one now

AclowncalledAlice · 10/12/2022 15:35

All year round here.

mintdaisy · 10/12/2022 15:37

I have a milk frother which came with my coffee maker but still wanted the velvetiser. It's so much easier and actually looks nice in your kitchen unlike a lot of kitchen appliances. We use ours year round - you can make iced drinks in it too.

mintdaisy · 10/12/2022 15:38

It's not powder, it's flakes of chocolate

The Hotel Chocolat sachets are flakes but you can just put milk in and then pour it over chocolate powder or coffee so you are not limited to just using the expensive stuff.

Floralnomad · 10/12/2022 15:43

We use our velvetiser a lot and put all sorts in it , mainly Nesquick chocolate powder as it’s my daughters favourite. The actual machine is a good price in Costco at the moment if anyone wants one .

Fumnudge · 10/12/2022 15:43

Well, they'll be selling another one now I realise you can get a discount, so I'm blaming you OP

VanillaImpulse · 10/12/2022 15:43

The dualit milk frother is exactly the same, I'm pretty sure it's even made in the same place but just has a handle added to the velvetiser

SisterAgatha · 10/12/2022 15:44

It’s the most amazing thing I have ever bought thought and I’ve used it daily since last Xmas. Way more than the air fryer.

i reckon they sell loads but eventually everyone will have one surely!

According to my sister in law you can get the same thing down the market for £30 (spoiler: you can’t) but you can get the dualit which is the exact same machine without the branding

SisterAgatha · 10/12/2022 15:46

Also yes you can put powder in it, it says not to but you can. I’ve had more problem with their own sachets as you sometimes you get a large piece of chocolate that doesn’t melt, so you have to break up the flakes a little if they are stuck together. We’ve put in loads of powders inc Horlicks.

Same! I had the caffe latte! I got some mince pie flavour hot choc from there last week too.

Beldam · 10/12/2022 15:51

I was bought one last Christmas as a present.

it’s been used about 10 times. It doesn’t make hot chocolate any better than a microwave does. I don’t like sweet things that often but when I do it would be like the Belgians do, small and sweet.

I use the charbonnel and Walker ( I haven’t spelt that right ) chocolate flakes and nothing bad has happened 😀

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 10/12/2022 15:53

I reckon 98% of their annual sales will be between Black Friday and Christmas Eve.

Or a tub of cadburys instant. I must be old.
