I have just completely run out a day ideas for stepmum and younger daughter and ordered another three because obviously I had to have one as well to demonstrate how it works 🤣
Literally, every person I know open down the land has one

I got one of the Chocolate Society shakers. Twenty five quid, makes fantastic hot chocolate, and the entire thing goes in the dishwasher. I’ve had mine for over a year now. You can keep your Velvetisers! Grin

clairelip · 10/12/2022 17:43

The blackforest one is amazing, but I do mine in a saucepan with a whisk, hotel chocolate at MacArthur glen had referbished ones if you really want one.

Whyisitthiscoldalready · 10/12/2022 17:50

I've got my sister in law the Asda one for 1/4 of the price, does exactly the same and same quality.

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 10/12/2022 17:53

Probably loads........but not to people like me who realised it was made by Dualit........did a bit of research and realised the Dualit milk frother was loads cheaper and had better functions and design so got that one for £50 instead 🤣🤣🤣

IhearyouClemFandango · 10/12/2022 17:56

I love mine, bought second hand for £30 on marketplace. I use choc flakes from Amazon or Pendragon's, or powder sometimes. I make mochas etc in it.

Emanresu9 · 10/12/2022 17:58

I was intrigued by the concept until I found out how many calories in each mug and nearly fainted.

Mouldyfoodhelp · 10/12/2022 18:02

I mean lets say you like a costa from just eat looking online now I 3.90 for a medium so over £4 for a large that's £16 for a family of 4 £64 for a month so almost the cost of the velvetiser you can then use cheap hot chocolate I think it's £27 for 20 sachets of chocolate so just after 5 weeks you've kind of broken even and then even if you get the hotel Chocolat sachets it's half price Essentially. And you may say that it's a ridiculous amount of hot chocolate but Ive got at least 4 Costa's within a 15 min drive from me and I'm not in London/ a densely populated area and they seem to be doing OK.

How often are people drinking hot chocolate? I couldn’t tell you the last time I drank one, I couldn’t justify the mental price for something like this. And even if you use this daily, why are you drinking so much hot chocolate??

I do drink one or two hot chocolates a month although that's fairly recent maybe because the weather turned colder. My son probably has one once a week and had been a thing since nursery give the kids hot chocolate occasionally there whilst they play outside.

Every day seems crazy to me though. Is there an obesity problem with people in the UK?

NotSorry · 10/12/2022 18:04

I’ve got 2 😆

they get used most days - the first one was a christmas present and the second one was a special offer if I signed up to a year subscription

crumpet · 10/12/2022 18:05

They’re a nice piece of kit, and we use for hot chocolate (most rarely) to add to coffee, just for warm milk or to add to things like ovaltine. Ds drinks more milk especially in winter, and no mess or risk of boiling over

Sierra1961 · 10/12/2022 18:07

Wish I had one! Or even a friend with one! 😂 I love a hot chocolate

By the sounds of it, you’re only ever 2 foot from Velvertiser, a bit like a rat in London 🤣

What I will say is I feel like a lot of people probably feel like they'll use it a lot more than they will we got a deal on black Friday and also got a few boxes in between and we're inundated with boxes now after an initial splurge and id say we have them semi regularly still

I don't drink costa any week. Neither does my family. We have one tub of galaxy got chocolate for £3 and I did buy a ginger spiced got chocolate from hotel chocolate. Can't remember how much that was but I got that 2 months ago and I've used 2 sachets.

Do a family of four really have 4 large Costas? A week?!

Mrsfussypants1 · 10/12/2022 18:17

We bought my mum one November 2018 then went on to buy one for dh that Christmas, a couple of our friends were gifted them that year too. We love it, it's used regularly and still looks like new. Mince pie one is divine and feel the need to try the black forest flavour now. Birthdays and Christmas we always receive a box or two as gifts and at this time of year a cheeky shot of Baileys added is my guilty pleasure, I work out all year and life is too short.

CaveMum · 10/12/2022 18:23

I love my velvetiser!

If you want a very nice (and boozy!) hot choc, once you’ve poured out your hot choc into a large mug, add a small shot of gin and another of Amaretto and stir well. You only need one 😜

Are you actually kidding me? We would have a Starbucks every Saturday afternoon after the weekly shop an absolute minimum of four during the week. I doubt very much if they’ll stop as a result of getting a velvety is there, but yeah 4050 quid a week in Starbucks is not unusual

I use mine a lot. I bung any old thing in it, haven't had a genuine Hotel Chocolat sachet of anything for a while. Although I'll get some for Christmas.

It takes up less room than a kettle.

You think one hot chocolate per person per week is a lot? I mean I personally don't get the having a hot chocolate every day but I don't think one a week per person is too much in the cold months.

You can also use cheap hot chocolate as well in it ( although they say not to) and it would make it cheaper whilst still making it a bit more special and of course then the cost would be less.

Had a look on the hotel Chocolat website a mint hot chocolate is 196 calories + milk considering there's people that have whole dams worth of coffee I looked at one on Asda which was 45kcal per teaspoon + milk and any sugar so if someone chooses to have 1 hot chocolate instead of jugs of coffee I don't see the issue.

The velvetiser and other machines isn't for everybody I personally was against getting it for our house although I do like a hot chocolate but I don't see the reason for demonising people on this thread when people will either "waste" calories on other non essential food and drink items regularly or waste money on a takeaway/ eating out/ little treats or clothes they won't wear, or other non essential items. You may spend £3 hot chocolate but I reckon there's a very high chance youve spent more money than necessary on a holiday/ clothes/ food items you didn't have to of even sexy underwear or a toy that you didn't need to but hey chastise people for hot chocolate.

jamoncrumpets · 10/12/2022 18:33

I use a saucepan.

How does the saucepan froth the milk?

Powder??? I assumed they'd be for using with flakes of actual chocolate.

Hmm gone off the idea of one now

It is flakes of chocolate.

MassiveSaladWithChristmasTrimmings · 10/12/2022 14:35

Do you have to use hotel chocolat chocolate or could I just use any chocolate?

I've made hot chocolate with one using leftover Guerlain seashell things, was very nice. My belief is if it'll melt, give a go but perhaps chop up the larger sweeties.

jamoncrumpets · 10/12/2022 18:37

You use a whisk @Sparklingbrook

PriamFarrl · 10/12/2022 18:41

Here’s the thing.
If you don’t want one because you are happy using a pan or don’t drink hot chocolate, then don’t buy one.

I got one as I was given some of the sachets of the chocolate flakes and it didn’t taste right in the pan. Also, I wanted one and I had the money.
