How much does everyone still have left to do?

Our to-do list is getting smaller, last bits of food shopping, present dropped to someone, clean the house, DH is taking our 3 DD’s into town Christmas shopping on the 23rd and I will finish off the final bit of wrapping that were late deliveries or twitches!!! 🤣

My plan is to have absolutely everything done by Christmas Eve so we can properly enjoy and if that works out it will be the 1st year ever!!

What’s everyone else still to do?

Big house clean to do today - vacuum and mop, scrub the sauna, clean the oven. Going to change the sheets on all the beds tomorrow so everyone goes to bed in nice clean sheets before Christmas Eve.
Got to decorate the tree today too as we only got it last night but that's a job for the children, not me.
Got to make the swede casserole tomorrow so I don't have to cook it Christmas Eve (that's our day to celebrate), and Victorian strawberries. Last food shop is getting delivered tomorrow too and hoping it will have everything in it, otherwise might need to do a last minute trip to the supermarket as well.
Presents are all wrapped already but still need to build the dressing up rail and hat stand for youngest's big present which I'll have to do after he goes to bed tomorrow night and hope the noise of the electric screwdriver doesn't keep him awake! Luckily DD is old enough to know the truth about Father Christmas so has volunteered to help me.

StruggleStreet · 22/12/2021 06:21

Were keeping it low key this year so don’t have much to do. We’re going out to a restaurant for Christmas lunch so no food to buy or prep, just got some Buck’s Fizz and salmon and eggs in ready for breakfast.
Haven’t wrapped any presents yet so will probably do that tomorrow. Trip to see my family on Boxing Day has been cancelled so will need to arrange to post some presents but that will have to wait until after Christmas.
The main thing that I need to do is to buy myself a new outfit for Christmas Day. I had a baby two months ago and none of my old clothes fit, I’ve been living in loungewear or maternity leggings so going to treat myself to something a bit more presentable.

MrsPnut · 22/12/2021 06:24

I’m anxiously waiting on a parcel of two items that I ordered back in November but didn’t realise they were coming from China. They cleared customs yesterday.
I have my shop coming tomorrow, cheese order to collect and butchers order to collect on Christmas Eve. I do need to make some more sausage rolls for the freezer today and probably change the bedding/ do a clean to stop me getting the twitch.

Rainbowabacus1 · 22/12/2021 06:30

I ordered something From amazon that said delivery Monday. Tracking is showing it hasn’t been shipped yet! Shock

Poppins17 · 22/12/2021 06:34

I’m getting my Christmas nails done today, and have a food shop being delivered tonight. If that doesn’t have everything in it then I’ll be at the supermarket for 7am tomorrow morning. Christmas Eve we pack up our car first thing, collect fresh bread and drive 4 hours to a holiday home. Then we will put up a tree and start our celebrations! Can’t bloody wait!

Loveatthe5anddime · 22/12/2021 06:36

Oh yes I will be happy when my sisters presents, restaurant vouchers reach my parents house this be given on Christmas Day!

We are also still waiting on DD15 turntable and so possibly need to think of a fun IOY for her pile if it doesn’t arrive in time!! 🤞🏻

Need to install one game on the new xbox.
We have a ride on for 2yo that we will make up on xmas eve.
All other presents have been wrapped.

The house needs a deep clean but I'm on my xmas hols now so will do that bit by bit.

Finally bought the last present for our childminder last night. Teachers presents have been given out already and DS wrote 24 christmas cards at top speed last night!

So am currently sitting watching xmas songs on the tv while DS gets ready for last day of school Xmas Grin

PlanktonsComputerWife · 22/12/2021 06:45

Got to locate a festive tablecloth somewhere in the loft and receive an Amazon package (DD only wants "a silly game" for Christmas, and "Pass the Pugs" will fit the bill, I think!).

We need to get a chicken for the big day, too, though both DH and DC will just be happy with several trays of pigs in blankets if we can't get one.

WutheringHeights66 · 22/12/2021 06:46

I’m intrigued, swede casserole and Victorian strawberries?

Off to visit Google.

WWTBCD · 22/12/2021 06:49

Work for two more days
Collect house guest
Buy two more gifts
Wrap everything
Write cards
Deliver gifts
Empty freezer
Finalise online food shop
Go and buy everything that's missing
Change bed
Hoover and clean round
Do a cooking schedule
Pick up the meat
Not get covid
This looks bigger than the last list I did.

WutheringHeights66 · 22/12/2021 06:50

Well the swede casserole looks fabulous, I might try doing that after Christmas, a Scandinavian dish, but I’m failing on a Victorian strawberry 🍓 @natsku what delight is this?

Its something to go with the rice porridge at breakfast, a slightly jellied (made with jam sugar) mess of strawberries with some lime juice.
Olliesocks · 22/12/2021 06:58

Wait for my Ocado delivery tomorrow evening.
Take the leg of lamb out of the freezer.

DeathMetalMum · 22/12/2021 06:59

Just wrapping and some cleaning. Did a big full house hoover yesterday, so just main areas to do again. Also did the 'Big Shop' yesterday I'm in work today and Xmas eve and really didn't fancy going Thursday. Dp is in charge of Christmas Dinner and boxing day buffet (I do breakfast/lunch) so he will be doing any prep for that.

I plan to bake some cheese scones with the dc on Xmas eve before work if I have time, but that it really.

HuntingoftheSnark · 22/12/2021 07:00

I'm working until 4pm on Friday, so will be shopping after that. I've not wrapped anything yet, still have a few presents to get, haven't even thought about cleaning and as for nails per a PP 😂. So, very unprepared but still hoping to go to my sister's on Saturday (with food).

I'm sad that my 91 year old, vaccinated and boostered mother has decided to stay at home alone for the second year running. It's her choice and we will absolutely respect that, and include her as much as possible, but the fact that she feels like that, to keep safe, has taken some of the joy away.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 22/12/2021 07:02

Most presents are wrapped, but I've done nothing for the stockings so I'm going to town this morning to get the presents for those. DC are aged 12 and 14 so stocking consists of chocolate, shower gel etc and socks, with main presents under the tree. Later DH and I will wrap it all up.

Tomorrow I'm going to do the Christmas big shop and collect my M&S food order, then we are pretty much ready. Just a few things I was going to bake but I won't if I can't be arsed.

StruggleStreet · 22/12/2021 07:04

Oh bugger, just realised I’ll now have to get some food for Boxing Day too now plans to visit family have had to be cancelled. Really can’t face the supermarket again! Will everywhere be closed on Boxing Day itself? I’d rather pop out then.

TallulahsCurse · 22/12/2021 07:04

Nothing. We always have a very small household Xmas, covid or not. Just presents for the kids and a normal. Whatever Julia Donaldson is on the TV, and just chill out. No stress here at all. I've sorted presents ages ago.

Taytocrisps · 22/12/2021 07:05

Buy fresh foods - veg, milk, meat, bread

Buy one last present and one gift card

Buy stamps and post last few Christmas cards (all written)

Wrap three presents

Make up spare bed for guest

Change my own bedding

Last minute tidy up/hoover

Hoping to get it all done today and tomorrow (around work). Then I just have to buy fresh bread on Christmas Eve morning and the rest of the day is for relaxing. Going for lunch on Christmas Eve so no cooking.

Incywinceyspider · 22/12/2021 07:05

I need to go and pick up DMIL's present today. Praying it arrives! Then DM is arriving tonight so need to make the house at least mildly presentable.
Then still have a pile of stuff that needs wrapping and a toy kitchen to build.
Finally, and most importantly, we are going on DS's first ever Santa visit later!

DiamondBright · 22/12/2021 07:08

Two more full days at work, thankfully WFH, I've been doing a full house clean over the last week or so and just the kitchen to do now, that's tonight's job and then a final run over everything tomorrow/Christmas Eve. DP is staying over Christmas so I'll change my bed Christmas Eve morning.

I've got cupcakes to collect tomorrow evening, cheese to collect Christmas Eve morning, Im out for brunch Christmas Eve and then the usual cooking to do. Turkey and gammon need to start defrosting tomorrow.

All presents are wrapped and delivered or they're for someone coming over Christmas. One thing for DD hasn't arrived and probably won't now, but if it does it'll need wrapping.

Looking forward to finishing work.

PermanentTemporary · 22/12/2021 07:09

Loads. Working till 430 Christmas eve and it's bonkers busy. There are a lot of 'nice to haves' which won't get done, but am hoping to do a food shop Thursday evening and have the list for that. Am helping with a charity hamper pack tonight which takes up a lot of time. I really want to have a self indulgent trip to John Lewis to buy some fancy table stuff and am hoping to fit that round the food shop. I'm feeling like the days if having nice shops to go round are ending so I want to enjoy it while I can.

I need to get a small gift for my mother which again would be easiest in John Lewis. Probably handcream. I think otherwise I don't need to panic, we have enough to get by.

PermanentTemporary · 22/12/2021 07:10

But there's a lot of tidying and shifting stuff about to do. Exhausted at the thought. I may try to squeeze in a house viewing which would be crazy...

MatildaIThink · 22/12/2021 07:11

I am off work until January, husband has some work but not flat out, kids are off until January.
Only food prep and a bit of moving furniture to accommodate table extensions left to do, which will all be done on Christmas eve.

DiamondBright · 22/12/2021 07:11

Main food shopping is coming Christmas Eve morning, if there's anything essential missing I'll pop into M&S when I fetch the cheese, it's open at 6am, I'm planning to collect the cheese when they open at 7am so hopefully it won't be too busy.
