A star, an angel, something random... what's atop your tree?

Just a lighthearted and not-even-slightly scientific pool because I'm curious!

I'm preparing to be flamed here but I've just ordered a disco ball for the top of my thoroughly non-traditional and possibly garish tree 😁

Disco ball sounds fab @Mediocrates , would love to see a pic of the tree.

We have a 'yule bok' on top of ours when it's up.

me4real · 11/11/2021 18:23

@campion That's fab. Grin

Faevern · 11/11/2021 18:25

A large hand made poinsettia bought at a craft fair at Hexham Abbey many years ago.

campion · 11/11/2021 19:19

Aw thanks @me4real.
Won't be long until she's released from her 11 months of darkness in a cardboard box.
I toy with idea of something new occasionally eg the peacock up thread is fab, but feel too sentimentally attached. I've never given her a name though. Perhaps I shouldGrin

I dont have trees anymore, but years ago, I always had a robin surrounded by some tinsel, and some fake red berries. Same set up every year, as these items were from years ago, and always had to keep them and use them at Christmas, never throw anything away.

me4real · 11/11/2021 19:33

@campion Maybe she should have a friend/girlfriend/boyfriend, or have another item with her. No reason not to have 2 things if you can afix them enough. She looks like a Marilyn to me. You could occasionally blow a hairdryer up her skirt. Smile

Blush21 · 11/11/2021 21:20

One of these! Similar anyway. Picked it up in a garden centre our first Christmas and love it

Loyaultemelie · 11/11/2021 21:35

I have a wooden star that my Dds made at a Yule fair 4 years ago and I love it, the mate of it hangs on the wall year round as a key ring for my set of "mediaeval" keys

Thatsplentyjack · 11/11/2021 21:37

An angel. It took me forever to find one I even half liked. I found a very unique one in a Christmas shop years ago, made the mistake of showing my mum and she jumped in and bought ut before me!
I would quite like a star but have yet to find a really nice one.

supercritter · 11/11/2021 21:37

Had a kpop star last couple of years

takingmytimeonmyride · 11/11/2021 21:39

Hedwig. We have a Harry Potter themed Christmas tree.

PurpleFlower1983 · 11/11/2021 21:41

A friend of mine has Jack Pumpkinhead.

DidgeDoolittle · 11/11/2021 21:41

We have an angel. She's about 30 years old. She started out as tasteful and gold and pretty. She's now more a lump of beige with an occasional glint. Every year I look for a replacement, but nothing ever beats fairy lump

SilentBob · 11/11/2021 21:43

A knitted hat, with battery operated lights and a star as a bauble. Obviously.

OldTinHat · 11/11/2021 21:45

My son puts the PG Tips monkey on top of his tree. He's started a trend because I now do the same!

Kitkat151 · 11/11/2021 21:46

A star....I would like an angel but have never found one I really love over the years....so I just stick with the star

Almostmenopausal · 12/11/2021 00:18

In November? The wrapping and the box it's in.......

Mine is still growing somewhere, I imagine. I was asking what typically goes on people's trees, but thanks Grin

One of those pointy ball-ball type things, like the spike from the top of a steeple. No idea what they’re actually called. It’s a tradition of my DH

Previously I’ve had a felt mouse fairy, gold flower decorations, a star and a very old fairy made by my grandmother

OhGiveUp · 12/11/2021 08:31

A fairy which my youngest made at school almost 30 years ago out of salt dough and bits of material.
It's so bad that it's comical.

I used to be a right old misery guts about this too. After the past 18 months, people can keep their trees up all year for all I care.
Saw the first decorated shop and pub yesterday and it made me Smile

Mediocrates · 12/11/2021 09:20

@MrsSkylerWhite

I saw two this morning on the school run!

My youngest is desperate to put her tree up in her bedroom, and frankly the only reason she hasn't is because I've told her she has to tidy it first!

I'm not into policing people's joy - if you want your tree up, do it! 😁

A ceramic bauble with Santa climbing the Eiffel Tower, bought by DH and his mum at Fauchons in Paris 40 years ago.
We put it on the top cos it weighs a bloody ton and the cats have already busted Santa once, and he'd be so sad if it was broken beyond repair.

Redsquirrel5 · 12/11/2021 23:24

I saw four in one night in October! Unless someone in the family/ friends is in the forces and won’t be home for Christmas surely Advent or 1st December is soon enough. I leave mine up until the 5th.
