A star, an angel, something random... what's atop your tree?

Just a lighthearted and not-even-slightly scientific pool because I'm curious!

I'm preparing to be flamed here but I've just ordered a disco ball for the top of my thoroughly non-traditional and possibly garish tree 😁

A tiny cuddly bear with a pink tutu and wings ! We also have a photo of my late sister in a frame right near the top as she adored Christmas

SirSamuelVimes · 10/11/2021 18:13

Loving the number of wizarding world related tree toppers 🎄

HippyChickMama · 10/11/2021 18:14

@Kobrakid

I have jack skellington dressed as Santa. Love it 😂
So do we!

That's a photo from last year btw, we don't have the tree up yet!

Robin233 · 10/11/2021 18:34

@Greaterthanthesumoftheparts
That's beautiful.

TractorTopper · 10/11/2021 19:07

I have name changed because ours is so specific that if anyone who knows me sees this it will be outing.

When my eldest son was 8 his toddler brother was obsessed with tractors. So eldest son's stepmum assisted him in making a papier mache tractor, complete with photos of the pair of them in the windows as they were 'driving' it. It was designed specifically to go atop the Christmas tree which it has done every year for the last 8 years.

When my youngest son finally leaves home I suspect he will want to take it with him and honestly I will miss it!

I have a star on top of my tree and something that one of the kids made when they were very small that is a fairy/angel/mummy/daddy mashup.

MiL has a mahoosive and very elaborate Angel, and every year we all joke about him being life sized. Grin

An artistically abstract brass angel, one of the first things I bought myself when I first had my own house. The clean lines and heavy metal really appeal to me.

When Now-DH and I moved in together in 1999, he mostly left decor to me but insisted on his tatty, no better than she ought to be, old broken down elderly lady angel having pride of place on top of my very tasteful tree.

At first I resisted, but then thought it's probably a good thing in a husband to cherish old ladies.

The angel hangs below her.

maofteens · 10/11/2021 21:48

Angel. When I was a kid I usually made something and a few years it was a star for the top.

MedeaMedusa · 10/11/2021 21:51

We have a penguin!

Wheresmycider · 10/11/2021 21:54

Couldn't find the angel last year, a hasty replacement was found in the form of a 6inch high sack boy doll who was given some gold cardboard wings and a halo.
I think we all preferred him.

SallySkelington · 10/11/2021 22:02

Pink mermaid

Runningupthecurtains · 10/11/2021 22:14

@MedeaMedusa

We have a penguin!
Shhh, if my DH hears you you'll get the lecture 😉. I add more and more to the tree huddle every year, much to his disgust there are dozens of them now.
showmethegin · 11/11/2021 08:20

@Mediocrates I'm afraid my friend made it for me!

herewegoagainst · 11/11/2021 15:01

We have an angel themed Hello Kitty TY plush/toy, I've used it since I was at uni. Planned to upgrade her once we got a better tree a few years ago but DH is attached to it now so she stays :)

Hodl · 11/11/2021 15:22

A 1960s angel, complete with blue eyeshadow and a nylon frilly dress. It appeared a few years ago in our Christmas decoration boxes - no one knows where it came from!

Mediocrates · 11/11/2021 15:54

Tree topper arrived! I wasn't expecting much from a fiver, but it's 20cm in diameter and it's just as tacky fabulous as I'd hoped. I'm planning to make this Dolly Parton Angel (inspired by @showmethegin) to sit on the branches below www.countryliving.com/diy-crafts/a34786715/dolly-tree-topper/

Omg I LOVE IT!

WeatherwaxOn · 11/11/2021 15:58

Not sure this year.
Last year I had a big rainbow made from felt.
In previous years I have had a top hat, fake stag head and a huge cluster of colourful feathers & netting.

TheSquashyHatOfMrGnosspelius · 11/11/2021 16:27

Plastic figurine of John Cena for some reason.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/11/2021 16:34

I have a star. I have two identical ones actually — one red and the other gold. I feel guilty leaving one out of Christmas, so I prop it up over the fireplace and switch them over so they can both have a go.

My DM has been looking for something new since before I left home. They end up using the same slightly balding tinsel star every year. Grin

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 11/11/2021 16:35

A loo roll angel with doily wings and yellow yarn hair and a pipe cleaner halo. DS made it in Nursery. DS is now age 25!

OwBist · 11/11/2021 17:07

Another Skelington Jack in Santa outfit here.

Christmas1988 · 11/11/2021 17:33

Babies elf hat, looks quite sweet actually.

campion · 11/11/2021 17:39

When I was 3 my uncle brought me this fairy doll from a trip to Liverpool. My mum took one look and decided it should go on the Christmas tree and so I never got to play with it. Ruined my childhoodGrin

About 20 years ago DM gave it to me and up she goes every year. She's had a few little embellishments, the wings are a bit crumpled and the wand is tied to her hand. The eyelids move but she does look a bit startled! Made in Hong Kong is stamped on her back. I couldn't imagine putting anything else there now and it's a fond link to my now late mum.
