A star, an angel, something random... what's atop your tree?

Just a lighthearted and not-even-slightly scientific pool because I'm curious!

I'm preparing to be flamed here but I've just ordered a disco ball for the top of my thoroughly non-traditional and possibly garish tree 😁

Quote fail! Was replying to @SpookyPumpkinPants

SBAM · 10/11/2021 10:06

A gold glittery dinosaur. We used to have a tasteful star but the dinosaur seems like more fun

SkankingMopoke · 10/11/2021 10:21

A red and gold butterfly Smile

@SirSamuelVimes

The squirrel of Christmas looks fucking raging. I love it!
So would you if you had a stick shoved up your arse!
Mediocrates · 10/11/2021 10:49

@showmethegin

We have Dolly Parton as the angel she is Grin

I must know where you got this from!!!!

@SirSamuelVimes you will unfortunately have to wait till 20th December to see my Harry Potter themed tree I'm afraid
I'm searching for a reasonable price tree skirt atm

CoodleMoodle · 10/11/2021 10:55

We have Duggee from Hey Duggee. DD got the magazine when she was about 18mo (it started when she was 9mo) and one issue came with a cut out Duggee angel. She's now 7, her brother is 3 (and a fan too!), and I can't imagine putting anyone else up there.

We've had him since 2015 and every year he gets a bit tattier...

VestaTilley · 10/11/2021 10:59

An angel.

20th??? That's aaaages. -wails-

I have done a second small tree in a Potter theme before. But now I'm just slowing creeping more Hogwarts related things onto the main tree Grin. I fancy making a HP themed tree skirt, maybe a Marauder's Map one. Not going to have time to do it for this year though.

DH used to be a bit despairing of all things HP but now is so impressed by JKR's standing up for women & girls that he lets me do what I want. Win!

GoingForAWalk · 10/11/2021 12:39

My star is too heavy so we always end up putting a pink fluffy angel on top as it fits so well and it'd be weird to change it now.

Stompythedinosaur · 10/11/2021 13:09

We have a needlefelt troll (like a Scandinavian type troll, not a cartoon with brightly colour hair). We have an entirely secular christmas, so prefer to avoid stars and angels.

gabsdot45 · 10/11/2021 13:31

We have Snegurochka. She is the Grand daughter of Ded Moroz, (Grandfather Frost) who delivers presents to children in Russia.

My children are adopted from Russia and we bought this little doll on one of our trips there. We love seeing her every year.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 10/11/2021 14:37

@SirSamuelVimes I've seen a maurders map tree skirt on Etsy £50
I'm mad but not that mad

SirSamuelVimes · 10/11/2021 14:57

I think I've seen the same one, @drinkingwineoutofamug. I'm also insufficiently insane to go for it!

Looks nice though...

Greydog · 10/11/2021 14:57

A king, made over 30 years ago(with a toilet roll, of course!) by my son. He's looking a bit worse for wear now, but it wouldn't be Christmas without him!

cooldarkroom · 10/11/2021 15:03

This mouse. From etsy

I've got 4 weeks to learn how to sew 😂

A very glittery peacock

bedbathandbeyond · 10/11/2021 17:05

A squirrel. It was an ornament I was given for our fireplace but we moved house and this place doesn't have one so I made some changes to it by hollowing it out from underneath and it now sits happily on our tree. Everyone loves it because it's so unusual.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 10/11/2021 17:15

A cat, usually.

For the five seconds before the entire thing crashes to the ground and the wee furry shite legs it in the hope that nobody noticed when we're standing in front of the thing at the time

DP has promised that he'll make up the Tinsel Nest (the box of old tinsel) for the WFS to make his own before the tree goes up this year so he'll have time to tie the thing more securely to the bannisters.

Somehow, I doubt that this will stop him.

VioletBick · 10/11/2021 17:18

A star my DS picked out of a Tesco Express 10 years ago. He was only a toddler and it caught his eye. It’s super basic and most of the glitter has come off but it’s so special and finishes our tree off perfectly.

AliceMcK · 10/11/2021 18:01

Depends which tree. My main one didn’t have anything for years then I finally found an Angel last year. Thinking of doing something different this year, more of a display.

Another has a Santa hat

My Star Wars one a dearth Vader mask.

Harry Potter one a sorting hat

One of my DDs uses the same star every year on hers

Another dd wants a snowman Christmas tree in her room this year so I will probably get her to make a paper top hat for that.
