This is going to sound like an ad, but it isn't. So I won't mention the company name.

Its a lighter that sticks to the back of your phone sort of like a phone pop, and works like a car cigarette lighter, and you can recharge it, its totally safe so you can't accidently open it.

I bought it on offer and it just showed up and it looks so expensive and lovely.

Its the coolest thing I've bought in a long time, I'm very excited to give it on Christmas day Grin

Just wanted to share because I'm stupidly excited about Christmas and nobody in my rl cares about these quirky little gifts I manage to find, even though it is officially Christmas season now.

Any more little gifts that anyone is super excited to give then please share, I promise I'll be excited about it Grin

@Skyla2005

Lots of people arnt addicted to smoking. I am a social smoker and would really like one of these. Not everyone is an addict

Unfortunately, even if you don't consider yourself addicted , it doesn't protect you from getting lung cancer

Yes and you can also get lung cancer when you have never smoked aswell ! It stands to reason a social smokers risk would be a lot lower that a regular smokers risk

Er, you didn't read the link at all, did you?

It says literally the exact opposite.

Whatever you might think 'stands to reason', actual scientific research / reality unfortunately disagrees.

This is a study of 18,000 people over more than 17 years.

Social smokers just as at risk of lung cancer as those smoking 20 a day

Researchers said their 17-year-long study suggests that cutting down, or combining fewer cigarettes with vaping, is no substitute for quitting.

People who smoke socially are more than twice as likely to die of lung disease and more than eight times as likely to die of lung cancer than non-smokers, a study suggests.

The research shows that the risk of lung cancer death for “social smokers” – those who smoke fewer than 10 cigarettes per day – is not substantially lower than those who smoke more than 20 a day.

For someone who is uncomfortable with the nature of the thread you're spending a lot of time here. You know MN has a hide thread function?

Nobody thinks smoking is great, but this is the Christmas topic, I was sharing a Christmas gift I had bought, I wasn't asking 'AIBU to encourage someone I love to smoke', if you really want I can start a thread over there and you can link all the 'smoking is bad' pages you like.

In the meantime I will definitely recognise that smoking is bad but the lighter I have bought is awesome

To answer a PP I haven't used it but I know you peel the film stuff off the back and the whole of the back of it is sticky so you could definitely stick it to your phonecase, that's what I expect my recipient to do. I can't imagine it would be easy to take off again though if you changed cases. I'm not sure, you might be better emailing the company to ask how it would work with swapping it over if you need to.

I was responding to a person (a real person- not you) who is under the dangerous misapprehension that being 'a social smoker' and 'not addicted' means she has a lower risk of lung cancer and other fatal diseases.

In fact, she's at just as much risk as someone smoking 20 a day.

I was sharing information with her that could potentially make the difference between life and death.

On a thread where multiple people (not just me) have shared their first- hand experiences of seeing people dying horribly as a direct result of smoking.

And you object to this because it spoils you talking (again) about how great a novelty cigarette lighter is?

Odd

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 05/11/2021 09:52

The conversation had actually moved on to baileys, bottle openers and toasters.

Its you that keeps bringing it up - again.

I came to the Christmas section to share a Christmas gift I had bought, literally what this section is for.

If you wish to continually lecture people there are multiple boards for that.

I have been on MN for years under one name or another so definitely a real person thanks anyway.

I just bought one of those bottle openers for my sister, thanks for the link! Any more gadgets you've found?

BudgeSquare · 05/11/2021 10:04

@ABCeasyasdohrayme I didn't say you weren't a real person. I said that the poster who I was replying to is a real person who believes, wrongly, that she's not going to die from smoking because she's a "social smoker ". It was nothing at all to do with you.

If you want to publicly promote products that support and encourage a habit that is fatal for more than half of those who do it, and mock and ridicule the reality of those unpleasant and painful deaths, then you shouldn't be surprised if people object.

It's a public forum. That's how it works.

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 05/11/2021 10:29

When did I mock or ridicule anyone dying?

I'm mocking the fact I have posted a gadget that I thought was pretty smart in the Christmas topic and you've just come on and taken it upon yourself to lecture everyone.

We all know smoking is bad for you, this isn't new information, some people choose to do it though, there's no stopping that, and a lighter isn't going to make anyone either start or stop smoking.

Object away, that's fine, but you can't object to me 'mocking and ridiculing' either Confused

Not a useful gadget at all @VienneseWhirligig but I bought this weird little thing for my sons birthday and think it's hilarious. He has a really weird taste in things (hence the bob ross toaster) and its right up his street.

The flying saucer comes and abducts the cow. We had hours of fun with it 😂

Well, I was going to buy the lighter for my (won't give up smoking even though I did two years ago) husband, but it's increased in price by £5 overnight, so no. I've bought him the cow abduction instead. Thanks OP :D

Has it 😯 I got mine on offer so never really paid attention to the usual price.

Cow abduction is really good. The wee space ship makes alien noises and the cow moos when it gets abducted 😂 hours of fun if you're immature like me.

😂😂 I'll link to some more of my more odd gifts if you like, I spend hours trawling for weird little things on the internet. If anyone has a trekkie in their lives I've found a few things for them. Trekkie cookbook and cocktail recipes for starters.

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 05/11/2021 13:21

Star trek cookbook

star trek cocktail book - this one is really nice and looks expensive.

where's elvis like where's wally but elvis. I also got a where's Bowie and where's Prince version for ds too. Not sure if they have more versions.

dd really loves anime so I got this, the box is rammed full of really cool little snacks

Mini zoltar I don't know how this works yet as it's a Christmas gift but it looks really good.

I'll post more in a bit.

Would you feel the same if she had bought a personalised gin glass?

If it was for someone with an alcohol addiction, yes.

Inextremis · 05/11/2021 14:06

DH shares a birthday with Elvis, so thanks for that too, OP!

WouldBeGood · 05/11/2021 14:58

The cow abduction looks nuts! Love it

I’m liking your gifting choices @ABCeasyasdohrayme

Miraloma · 05/11/2021 19:11

What sort of safety quality control stamps are on it? It looks cool but I'd be terrified of it exploding - is it legit or something you'd see on a consumer rights show?

I'll remember to take a photo of the leaflet tomorrow for you. I didn't look too closely at the box or leaflet tbh. I have more Xmas presents arriving tomorrow so will have to venture into my Christmas hiding place then and retrieve it. It does have a leaflet in the box, and it certainly doesn't feel cheap at all, but I'll definitely take photos tomorrow so you can see. Or I guess all the info may be on the website. Again I didn't look too closely.

I'll post some more links to odd little gifts I've bought tomorrow too.

I buy a fair bit from etsy, literally my favourite site, and everything always comes with really nice packaging and a wee thank you note. One of my dc is into Funko pops and I got them a fully personalised one of themselves, box with their name on it and all, which I can't wait to give. It was really hard to choose a present this year as they own everything 😂

I had a missed call, ends up it was the company selling the lighter gadget phoning me saying thanks for the order and it's on its way!
How's that for customer service! You listening Amazon

YouKilledKenny · 21/11/2021 21:18

Hoping it’ll come in very handy!

Terfydactyl · 21/11/2021 21:41

@ABCeasyasdohrayme

I might get a tshirt made with "Death Facilitator" on it 😂😂
Why not, I'll join you cos I just looked to buy one for myself. Gasp, shock, horror yes I smoke. Sadly all out of stock. Nvm will look again next week.
Terfydactyl · 21/11/2021 21:47

While I'm here @ABCeasyasdohrayme can you find me something quirky for a cocktail lover.
I'm stumped. Not glasses cos I dont know the storage, not an actual cocktail in tin or bottle cos i got no comments last time I gave them. It's my last present to buy and I'm pulling my hair out.

Oooh you could make up a little hamper with the shimmers and garnishes.

shimmers and flavours

garnishes

cocktail cards

fizz bombs

What about cocktail art

an alcohol dispenser - there are loads of different kinds of these though if space is an issue.

Any of those any use or will I keep looking?
