This is going to sound like an ad, but it isn't. So I won't mention the company name.

Its a lighter that sticks to the back of your phone sort of like a phone pop, and works like a car cigarette lighter, and you can recharge it, its totally safe so you can't accidently open it.

I bought it on offer and it just showed up and it looks so expensive and lovely.

Its the coolest thing I've bought in a long time, I'm very excited to give it on Christmas day Grin

Just wanted to share because I'm stupidly excited about Christmas and nobody in my rl cares about these quirky little gifts I manage to find, even though it is officially Christmas season now.

Any more little gifts that anyone is super excited to give then please share, I promise I'll be excited about it Grin

Jesus. My DH died from lung cancer after smoking for 50 years and I have never smoked, and nagged him for 20 years to give up until he did after his bloody diagnosis. Even so, I think it's really mean to piss on OP's chips, she only came on to share a gift she was excited about buying. Would you feel the same if she had bought a personalised gin glass? I like the idea of the gadget, DH would have appreciated that. In fact DS might still appreciate it - wonder if it lights fireworks? (He is the only fool brave enough to be official firework setter off in our family now DH has gone).
@drinkingwineoutofamug Serial Killer Grin this thread has cheered me up no end.

Death Facilitator. Incredible.
We aren't allowed to post laughing faces on here anymore Sad we must remain serious at all times.

Its cheered me up too though, buy a funky lighter and suddenly I'm a mass murderer😂 it's taken a turn and a half, especially for the Christmas board.

In the name of honesty I have also bought a bottle of flavoured vodka, a drinking game and some shot glasses for my 20yo ds.

And a pogostick but no helmet for my teen dd.

I'm pretty sure one of the toys I bought my 4yo is for age 5 and over too 😂

We think alike OP. DS will have his traditional Baileys in a tin in his stocking (Xmas breakfast) and probably at least 3 bottles of rum or bourbon from me, his brother and aunt. I'll join you in the facilitator section.

Iamanicepersonreally · 04/11/2021 17:59

Who's Bob Ross?

I'll budge up and make some room for you, it's getting a bit crowded over here.

Have you seen baileys have a new birthday cake flavour? I saw it advertised but haven't managed to find a bottle yet, it looks really nice.

On a serious note I am very sorry to read about your DH Flowers

He painted happy little trees 😂

My ds adores him. You should watch one of his programmes, his voice is so soothing.

What percentage of those who drink gin are killed or permanently harmed by it?

I have severe alcoholics in my immediate family and I am well aware of the harms -but the majority of people are not harmed by drinking alcohol. This is not true of smoking. The chances are that the person the OP is buying this for will suffer severe illness or die as a direct result of smoking.

If you love someone, you don't directly encourage them to do something that will probably kill them. I don't know why that is difficult to understand.

I asked above if you'd buy chocolate for a loved one who was morbidly obese and/or diabetic?

Or rum for an alcoholic with severe pancreatitis?

Those are the correct comparisons. Gifts that will most likely contribute to their death.

Really not remotely the same thing as toys that are slightly out of the right age range.

@VienneseWhirligig - I am sorry to hear about your husband. When you were nagging him to give up smoking, did you buy him lighters and other smoking paraphernalia as gifts?

Birthday cake flavoured Baileys you say! @ABCeasyasdohrayme glad I popped by Grin

😂 glad to have you here.

Please someone let me know if they find it, I really want to know if it properly tastes of cake.

I must point out that alcohol must only be consumed when 18+ and can damage your liver if drank excessively, don't drink and drive, and stay away from your phone, specifically any exes numbers you have if you're hammered.

This has been your public service announcement for the evening.

@BudgeSquare yes I did. I bought him a Zippo he had been coveting. Whilst I wanted him to give up smoking and was worried about his health, I accepted that he was an adult and I wasn't his mum.

If I hadn't bought the lighter, he would have still smoked, using the cheap one he bought from the cigarette counter. He really wanted an engraved one, so the only difference was he had a refillable one that he liked. He infuriated me with his attitude of "everyone has to die of something, and I don't drink, gamble or go with other women" but it was his choice to smoke. He actually became the most rabid anti smoker when he gave up, and would be very judgemental. But I think that's true of lots of reformed addicts of any kind.

BudgeSquare · 04/11/2021 20:03

@VienneseWhirligig genuine question, didn't you feel like buying him an engraved lighter was somewhat at odds with 'nagging him to give up'?

Obviously it didn't cause him to smoke if he wouldn't have done otherwise, but it's a tacit approval. It undermines and contradicts the overt request for them to stop.

My husband is/was an alcoholic, now sober for 3 years and counting. When I was desperate for him to stop drinking, I wouldn't have bought him an engraved pint glass... He however is quite happy to buy me bottles of Remy etc. as I'm not an alcoholic.

There is a middle ground between policing another adult's choices and actively encouraging them.

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 04/11/2021 20:41
I love that, I might order the kind of oil coloured one, can't decide if that's the rainbow one or multi coloured one. Which colour did you get?

Thanks so much, that will be another gift crossed off the list.

I love that toaster 🙂

VienneseWhirligig · 04/11/2021 21:39

It was at odds with my assurance in smoking, yes. I'm aware that makes me a hypocrite. My line I wouldn't cross was buying him fags after the first time he tried to give up. I did buy him them previously, he tried patches and had a severe allergic reaction, so as far as he was concerned he had tried and failed. I refused to buy cigarettes. Ultimately though, I loved him and wanted to make him happy, and the Zippo did.

VienneseWhirligig · 04/11/2021 21:40

Ugh, typo. Stance not assurance.

Skyla2005 · 04/11/2021 22:21

Can it be used if you have a plastic cover on your phone does anyone know please ?

Lots of people arnt addicted to smoking. I am a social smoker and would really like one of these. Not everyone is an addict

I understand and I'm not for a second suggesting you have any responsibility for anyone else's addictions.

I have lost very close friends to heroin and I know how impossible it is to change anyone else's behaviour.

I was & am still uncomfortable with the ridicule & mockery on this thread directed at anyone who feels there is something off about promoting this gift, & particularly the continued 'jokes' about alcoholism, drug addiction, eating disorders, etc

I'm really very sorry for your loss.
