Thread 11 - the one where everyone keeps writing the bargain info *in bold*

Reastie · 07/10/2020 16:22

Just keeping the title similar should anyone have missed the last title and info.

NEW INFO PLZ READ
**please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.
If I do it again without the extra spaces only the word bargain will appear in blue

Referral link here . Use this to post any links where you can refer a mner and you or both of you get an incentive. For ease and fairness please don’t post these on the main thread.

Cash back sites. You can order through cash back sites like Quidco and topcashback. It’s really simple, you just create a free account and then when you’re purchasing anything online you search on the cash back site the lace you’re ordering from and see if they do cash back and if so follow the link to place the order. You usually have to earn £5 minimum to cash the money back but it easily adds up. Go to the referral link page to join if you haven’t before.

Thank you fireflygirl for the info on when supermarkets opened Christmas delivery slots last year:
Last year, Morrisons opened their Christmas delivery slots to pass holders on 6 November, and non-pass holders on 27th November, Tesco opened theirs 3 days early for pass holders (27th as opposed to 30th), and Asda 5 days earlier (13th as opposed to 18th). Sainsbury's likely opened theirs 3 weeks in advance to everyone at the same time.

camel camel camel is a great page for price tracking amazon

A great website for looking up items of specific price so you hit the £20 free delivery at amazon here

Sockeatingmonster’s age old but very useful top tips for using aliexpress (note these are also relevant for wish website and anything shipped from China on Amazon and Ebay - you can usually tell by the estimated delivery time and multiple same pictures but different companies. Although you can filter search by country on Ebay. - thanks scrappydappydoo for that bonus point).

“1. Check reviews

  1. Be wary of plastic toys. There have been concerns about toxic plastics from China, and I have binned plastic figures for having very unpleasant smells. I no longer buy any 'low-end' plastic items (UPDATE: I wouldn’t buy squishiest either, for the same reason) and only ever from sellers with lots of positive reviews
  2. Aliexpress refund/complaints procedure is actually way more straightforward than eBay, and stacked in the buyer's favour
  3. Beware of mains operated electricals, many of which are supplied without fused plugs. Always message the seller first if in doubt, don't rely on the photos
  4. I don't trust dress up clothes to be flame retardant, although I don't believe this is UK law anyway?
  5. Clothes can come up very small. Quality can be variable (excellent to awful). Photos are often of similar items, so take them with a pinch of salt and check the reviews.
  6. Actually, all photos on Aliexpress should be taken with a pinch of salt. Again, check reviews (where buyers often post photos of the actual item received)
  7. I wouldn't trust toys to meet UK safety standards and wouldn't buy anything that could pose a risk (e.g. Paint might not be safe for children to gum, there could be sharp edges/choking hazards, etc)
  8. Lego alternatives don't tend to stick together as well as genuine Lego. Minifigures are still excellent value, but the odd one might benefit from a few drops of superglue.
10. Barbie and other doll clothes can be excellent value, but check reviews for fabric quality and finish (UPDATE: Type “18 inch doll” for clothes that will fit American Girl/Our Generation/Designafriend dolls. Shoes are particularly excellent value. Wash dark clothing first as dyes can stain dolls’ limbs) 11. Stationery is generally excellent value, although paper quality can be lower than expected. Type 'kawaii' into stationery and be prepared to spend a fortune!

Also to add I’ve seen a fair few posts from fb this year from small businesses where aliexpress have posted photos of their products and photos without permission, so be wary and be warned the photo might not be exactly what you get.”

I know a previous poster already said on the last thread but there was no half price toys in my local Morrisons today either, my aunt confirmed that this is the same in the two where she lives so at least it seems we're not being left out?

ClaraLane · 07/10/2020 16:32

PinkJam · 07/10/2020 16:40

Does anyone know which shops or websites are stocking bargainous gold or silver wrapping paper? Have seen some at Paperchase and a couple of other websites but very expensive.

EvilHerbivore · 07/10/2020 16:44

Sand & water play table - code 4GRAFCAJ taking it down from £23.99 to around £7.20 at checkout

water table

PinkDaydreams · 07/10/2020 17:05

Make sure you read the reviews of the water table before ordering @EvilHerbivore. Not trying to put a downer on it by the way, I was going to order one until I saw the size of it and read reviews.

TheDrsDocMartens · 07/10/2020 17:13

Some nice (& fairly cheap ) stocking things on here. shopandonart.bigcartel.com/products

I like this book to complete shopandonart.bigcartel.com/product/doodle-me-an-epic-story

EvilHerbivore · 07/10/2020 17:16

@PinkDaydreams maybe more of a bath toy then!

thaegumathteth · 07/10/2020 17:21

@PinkJam I got lovely gold wrapping paper from COX AND COX last year. Used a referral code so it was relatively bargainous and lasted ages.

*Latest Deals UK just sent me an email to get £5 off a £25 spend at Amazon. I'll attach sceeenshots. Only valid until 9/10 and only limited amount available.

I was just away to say Cox & Cox for wrapping paper! Last year’s bargain was incredible - basically 2 £10 rolls just for the cost of postage (£5). Mine is closely guarded and only used by me for people I feel deserve it - I expect it to last years because I’m so sparing with it!

Nobbynobbsknob · 07/10/2020 17:35

400 bulbs for the garden for £30
So excited that I can add something to the thread after everyone else has helped me so much.
Groupon is doing garden bulbs for 100 for £10, 200 for £14 and 400 for £27.
No idea how good they are but that's a cheap price
Just ordered so if anyone wants more info I'll let you know what they're like

Jacopone · 07/10/2020 17:37

@PinkJam
Tiger had gold and silver wrapping paper last year around this time. Not sure how it is now but definitely worth checking there.

Emiliemoo · 07/10/2020 17:38

@dovesandkisses Let me know if you find any!!!

screamingchild · 07/10/2020 17:51

"Worry Monsters" are on offer on Groupon - stocking fillers?

MsMiaWallace · 07/10/2020 17:54

Very have 20% off fashion & footwear seems to work on sale items too. The code is on the website (Q4RNP).

Smileatthesmallthings · 07/10/2020 18:02

@Emiliemoo @dovesandkisses My almost 4yo boy wears asda leggings. From the girls or boys section. The last lot we got had yellow, a dark dusky pink and 2 shades of blue (boys section). Not patterned or exciting but at £9 for 4 pairs they're surprisingly soft, fit really well and he loves them and won't wear anything else.

IDontDrinkTea · 07/10/2020 18:04

I just got a notification to say the puppets are back in stock... very disappointingly they’re back at full price!

Lots of Green Toys in TK Maxx this afternoon. I was after a Klean Kanteen, after someone posted their bargain, no luck but lots of great toys. The last couple of times there’s been nothing of interest to me but today I had to remind myself I have already bought most presents.

The Green Toys are made from recycled plastic and brilliant for the bath or garden - no problems with mouldy squirters. Grin We have the submarine and mine all fight over it so I picked up A couple more boats today. They also have a lovely little tea set which I would buy if we didn’t already have a wooden one.

I’ve had a look online and can only find the Tugboat made of “100% recycled plaster”. It doesn’t help
That it’s listed as Melissa and Doug - the person doing listings may have been distracted. Wink

Anyway, here’s the link... a bargain at £5.99 - though more bargainous in store due to no postage costs.

Green Toys Tugboat

There was also a much reduced Sylvanian Families item.

NewCatMummy · 07/10/2020 18:17

If anyone is still looking for the M&S gin snow globes I got one of the clementine ones in our M&S petrol station which has a very small food section, they also had an elderflower one with gold flakes but no light plus the musical biscuit tins and big tubs of percys.

BeaLola · 07/10/2020 18:19

gold & silver paper - apart from Cox & Cox for those who will appreciate it I have seen done last week £1 a roll in B&M stores , also my nearest Wilkinson's had some in too

gavisconismyfriend · 07/10/2020 18:21

@PinkJam depends how cheap. I got some from cox and cox on the referral offer £20 off a £25 spend, so 2 big rolls of really nice paper cost me £12.95 (incl postage) instead of £27 + postage. Still pricey, but not full price pricey! I’ve got a referral code, PM me if you’d like it.

theyips · 07/10/2020 18:31

No toy sale at our Morrisons either ☹️

Has anyone seen any bargainous The Snowman stuff? Snowdog will do at a push. Anyone seen any Snowman bedding yet this year?
