My Christmas is nearly ruined. They guaranteed to us they would bring all the drinks we needed and even asked what we wanted but they didn't bring enough. They arrived this evening to eat an amazing buffet and they will have the most lovely dinner tomorrow with loads of nice nibbles during the day but they couldn't be arsed to bring enough drinks. Probably there is enough wine but 4 bottles of J2O between 7 people clearly is not enough. And Dh drinks only beer, they know it and brought only 12 small bottles of corona which they are drinking too. No soft drinks for Dd at all. And the icing on the cake was when I asked MIL if I could have some coke from the half bottle they left in the kitchen and as I am pouring it BIL jokes that I am drinking HIS coke so I apologise and tell him I asked MIL to which he replies that it is not MIL's coke but his....then I realise that the only coke they brought. And no, they aren't strapped for cash. In the last few days they went to a posh restaurant, went to see a show on the West End and to the cinema. Also MIL cant stop bragging about her pay rise. I am annoyed.

Hosting is stressful and you IL's are probably getting right on your tits.

Flibbedyjibbet · 25/12/2013 08:38

You can tell it's Christmas and even Mumsnetters are being nice and polite. You haven't been flamed once for being a teensy weensy bit rude in your posts.

We are filled with Christmas Cheer and doing a good deed by letting you vent your steam on here.

wonderingsoul · 25/12/2013 08:41

id be anoyed to and fume in my head but really..

it hasnt ruined your christmas.

think of the poor peiople whos houses have been flooded and had to move out.. people who are stranded at airports.

you will still have a lovely time just pop out and get more. there will be a gargae open or a shop.

it really isnt that big of a deal!

have a great time.

SantasComingEarlyHisSackIsFull · 25/12/2013 09:18

To those of you saying 12 bottles is enough, RTFT: The Op has stated that the visiting relatives are drinking it too FFS!.

I'd be annoyed to and find it difficult to not have a face like a smacked arse OP Grin. Tight bastards. I hate meanness.

ARealPickle · 25/12/2013 09:29

They weren't drinking the beer too were they? I thought that was the oj?

ARealPickle · 25/12/2013 09:32

Ah no she did say they're drinking it too. Although as there's more than enough for one fair enough!

It's giving me a break from my problems being amazed what people get worked up about.

You said they bought plenty of wine. I'm curious how much that is! Presumably not cheap skates of v is plenty by your standards.

EirikurNoromaour · 25/12/2013 09:48

Jesus there are some po faced wankers on this thread. People should be happy to drink tap water on Christmas Day? The husband is an alcoholic if he wants more than 6 bottles of beer (which he won't have, as others are drinking it too)?
Christmas is a time for indulgence, running out of stuff is crap. Tap water is useful but not the same as prosecco. The inlaws have been mean and shit. Send them out when it looks like you are running out and be explicit, we have run out because you didn't bring enough.

SantasComingEarlyHisSackIsFull · 25/12/2013 10:21

Wot Eirkur said too.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 25/12/2013 10:29

Christmas is an excuse for indulgence. It's not obligatory. I'll have tea today and possibly a diet coke with my dinner. I'm not tee total i just dont need to get pissed to enjoy myself. A couple of beers/glass of wine on xmas is nice sure but to say not having it has ruined christmas is a bit extreme and i think missing the point of christmas entirely if that what you were depending on for christmas to be good. Ad like has already been said, OP has a mouth in her head- she can send them for more! It is so not the disaster it's being made out to be.

lizzywig · 25/12/2013 10:32

Ditto Eirkur. If the IL's have always managed to supply the drinks in the past then this seems like they're trying to make a point about something.

HermioneWeasley · 25/12/2013 10:34

It is thoughtless.

I would ask them to bring the rest in as there obviously isn't enough. If they say there isn't any more, send them to a local shop to get some more!

Or get DH to do both if they're his family. Don't let not having the drinks you want spoil your day, just get it sorted.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 25/12/2013 10:50

'It is so not the disaster it's being made out to be.'

Um, MN couldn't exist if every thread had to be the disaster it was being made out to be.

Op is having a rant here rather than at her DH or her ILs - presumably keeping the moral high ground, as is often advised here.

But, op, at least you know now they've turned tightarse and won't rely on them again. Every cloud . . .

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 25/12/2013 10:56

MN also wouldnt exist if no-one pointed out that those problems werent the disaster they were being made out to be. Or are we only allowed to post if we agree with the OP?

FreeButtonBee · 25/12/2013 11:21

Fuck me, shut up you bunch of miseries. OP. It would ruin my Christmas too. I drink shed loads of water but actually I like having something sifferent to drink at Christmas (not just wine!). Ginger ale and coke and lemonade and oj and the odd beer with my turkey sarnies at 11pm.

Send them to the shop!

gamerchick · 25/12/2013 11:25

There are always loads of shops open today... go stock up.

Umm i think it's op that's being the misery here! Whingeing because she might have to drink less wine than she hopes and has to deal with her husband not having his weekly allowance of alcohol in one day

And shut up yourself.

Casmama · 25/12/2013 11:31

I hope the drink situation is sorted OP and genuinely cannot believe some of the responses on here. Have a good Christmas.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 25/12/2013 11:31

SilliBilly, have a PA Grin.

DoItTooBabyJesus · 25/12/2013 11:33

I get it!

How rude! Send 'em out for more. Just tell them there isn't enough to drink!

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 25/12/2013 11:33

I'm already Grin. This is thread is fucking hilarious.

Op yanbu, I would be furious also. Tight arses.

EustaciaVye · 25/12/2013 11:42

I think OP is getting a hard time here when she has spent time and effort on the dinner/food.

OP - get DH and his brother to go out for more drink if there isnt enough.

talkingnonsense · 25/12/2013 11:47

I think they were thoughtless and I am stuck in with a flood and couldn't get out for any Xmas dinner! Don't see why op should be happy when she has some the dinner and they were meant to be bringing ALL the drinks- are they making a point about something op?
