Chicken pox question. One of my DT's woke up this morning with blistery spots on his tummy, groin, bum and face. Pretty sure it is chicken pox. He seems fine with it not itching yet - does that happen later ?

What creams lotions are good to help wit irriation, itching etc ?
I have heard camomile teabags in a cool bath can help but I am otherwise clueless.
TIA Smile

Its hard work being the favourite isn't it! :)

Dd conked out and slept at 9. We finally saw a dr at 9.40, who has spoken to cobsultant and now we are waiting on antiviral eye drops.

I am spent!

Did you get any tickets Mavis? Envy

Me and dd got home from the hospital at 11!!! Shock Se were there for 4h in an isolation room with nothing, except 3 dog eared books, to occupy us. Dd spent her time trying to climb everything or pull wires out the wall. Hmm
The dr appeared at 9.40 and woke dd whilst examining her. Dd freaked and screamed the place down. (as would I if I woke up being prodded by a stranger!) we have been sent off with antiviral ointment to do 5x a day till it does and then another 3 days after that.

Dd went to sleep at about 11.30 but then woke at 3 as she was thirsty/ hungry as she didn't want her milk while we were in the hospital and she missed her tea so just ate snacks from my bag. Thankfully her and ds have only just woken up so I've sent dh to organise them.

For anyone who is worrying about blisters and eyes dd's was a small raised bit on the actual eyeball. It didn't look any different in colour but was surrounded by an area of pinky bloodshot-ness.

You know you've had chikenpox badly when the nurses are shocked by how many spots you have!!! Shock

Oh when poor you and DD! Well done for being so vigilent. Glad she has the drops. I am sure that will be fun. Not! Hope this is soon just a blurry memory for you both x

Whenisitmysleepytime · 04/08/2012 14:16

Mavis - your tickets sound good! :) dh was moaning that he wanted to go (didn't get tickets but tired valliantly). I reminded him that If he'd had tickets this week I'd have had a breakdown dealing with the pox on my own! Your poor ds sounds like he's reaching the peak of it. Is it day 6 now? At least once it's peaked they perk up pretty quickly. :)

Dd's scabs are starting to lift off. Thankfully they're not bleeding underneath so I think there's a better chance of it not scarring?!? Ds' were often picked and so bled but the huge one on her forehead lifted away to reveal more scab underneath iyswim. Her arms and legs look pretty good today - they had the smallest spots.
The bad eye doesn't look any worse and the ointment is a relative breeze compared to drops! :) her good eye still looks normal so fingers crosse it won't spread.

Have taken ds out to soft play to see friends but he fell asleep and now it's thundering heavily do I don't want to wake him and get out the car! Blush

Mavis that sounds lovely! :)
Just hang in there for another 48h and you're almost there.

Am feeling much more positive about dd and her pox today. We were looking at photos of her face from last weekend (red and swollen and spotty), tuesday (crusty), and today (scabs starting to lift). The difference is amazing and that just over 7 days! Shock it's given me some perspective about how well her skin can heal in a short time.

My dc went to be pretty well tonight too. Hopefully there will be some decent sleeping tonight.

I would love some time to myself but until dd is completely scabbed that isn't likely. Hmm I might book something for next weekend! :)

WhereMyMilk · 04/08/2012 21:48

Right, hello poxers!

Advice please.

DS 3 has been a little under the weather, with high temp, a little lethargic. Had shocking diarrhoea this am, now has a band of blisters around his neck :(

Took him to GP as wasn't sure-said thought it was a viral rash, but could become chicken pox...?

Has now had another couple come on his face.

Is it...the pox?!

Blisters sounds like the pox.

You'll know in the morning as they'll have multiplied. Calpol is your friend! keep ds as hydrated and well fed as you can now because it will get harder in a few days if it is the pox.
Good luck! :)

Oh no! :( I hope ds settled for you. Is your dh away again next week?

Dd slept through. But is still infectious. Hmm
She has 2 blisters on her hands that just won't dry up. The sudocreme didn't seem to make any of the others dry up so I guess we're stuck with them for a bit longer.

WhereMyMilk · 05/08/2012 10:26

Oh crap, t'is the pox :(

Have been so desperately trying to find someone to jab him too. DD had the jab as we used to live in Canada and is compulsory there. DS 1 had the pox at 6months so didn't get chance with him.

Had a very bad night-not used to it now so feel shocking today.

Was either awake or moaning in his sleep bless him. The ones on his neck are very painful-one looks like it is infected already:( Whole neck swollen all down the side.

Also has them on his face, which is swollen too.

The one on the end of his penis is massive. He's scratched his back to pieces.

Just in the tub with porridge, bicarbonate, lavender and tea tree.

Has had antihistamine, calpol.

What else?

Milk - if he looks swollen or red I'd be tempted to take him to dr. Dd was swollen and red and needed antibiotics because of infection. The antibiotics take 3 days to kick in so are best to get ASAP if you think he's infected. How's his temperature?

Mavis - is it sore itchy spots upsetting your ds or temp? Or who knows? Confused calamine did nothing for ds but did help dd a bit when she was really bad. Hope he sleeps soon! :)

Aw Mavis I'd forgotten he had sensory issues, would he wake up if you dotted calamine on him? Confused hope you can wriggle out from under him soon! (and keep him asleep!)

mavis thinking of you and DS. Sounds as if he will be in the right place, but still utterly terrifying.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 05/08/2012 18:37

Oh Mavis! :(
Big hugs from here too! Hospitals are fecking scary but the best place when you're worried! Hope they get ds sorted quick!

ValiumQueen · 05/08/2012 18:41

I am guessing they kept him in as it has been a while. How is babywhen today? How are the eye drops going?

Whenisitmysleepytime · 05/08/2012 18:50

Baby when is fine thanks! :)
Still infectious in 4 spots but the other 1000s are scabby and lifting off. There were lots of crusty bit in her bed after her nap! The eye drops are a battle now - she's sussed out what we're doing so fights and squirms and clamps her eye shut. I can't tell how much better it is but it's not getting worse iyswim. :)
We might get out tmrw, maybe, perhaps, hopefully.... Hmm

How's the ankle Valium?
