Chicken pox question. One of my DT's woke up this morning with blistery spots on his tummy, groin, bum and face. Pretty sure it is chicken pox. He seems fine with it not itching yet - does that happen later ?

What creams lotions are good to help wit irriation, itching etc ?
I have heard camomile teabags in a cool bath can help but I am otherwise clueless.
TIA Smile

Fruitcake, I'm sorry I didn't see your post yesterday. Please take your DS to A & E, if you haven't already done so. The swelling and redness could be the start of an infection that could require antibiotics. Don't take a chance on this, it is always better to be on the safe side.

Handsfullandrunningforgold · 31/07/2012 09:27

Morning Poxers.

Hope your DC are ok and you managed to get some rest.

We had another rough night lots of crying and writhing around very little sleep.
He seems ok now spots no where near as red and do not seem as itchy, looks like another day of lazing on the soafa watching cbeebies. [bored]
Fingers crossed today will be a turning point for everyone.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 31/07/2012 09:32

Morning hands full! :)

Sorry your ds slept so badly. Dd did pretty well - took a car rude to get her off but she was asleep at 8, woke twice and then got up with dh at 6. :)

I think the AB are starting to work - she didn't look as puffy in the face. It's day 5 here and I'm hoping for more improvement. She's just fallen asleep on me so gonna put her to bed then get breaky.

I am also sending cheeky texts to mates to see if ds can go and play this week as he will go mad at home with dd getting all my attention.

CJ2010 · 31/07/2012 09:42

My DS has now got it, he is 11 months old. Is it more serious in the under 1's? Should I take him to the doctors? Sad

Whenisitmysleepytime · 31/07/2012 09:50

I don't think it's more serious but you will be limited about what drugs you can give him and if his temperature goes high I think things can get more serious faster in really little ones.

Dd is 15mo and got it from ds. She has a mega dose of it so has struggled.

If I was you if keep an eye on temperature and if that spikes, or he looks super red/ puffy , or the spots look infected then see the dr.

Good luck - there's loads of helpful advice up the thread. :)

Whenisitmysleepytime · 31/07/2012 17:24

How is everyone today?
We've had a better day again. :) only one screaming session so far when I woke her for overdue AB and calpol.

Quick question - do you know how they treat spots near the eye?
Dd has loads on her eyelids and v close to her eyes. Confused

ValiumQueen · 31/07/2012 17:29

Hello when glad you have had a better day. In relation to the eyes, I did not put anything stingy there obviously. I gave a gentle dab of Sudocream or aqueous. She never complained. No wonder she screamed when you woke her up for antibiotics! I would have!

Cheers! :)

Do you think she needs to see the gp about the ones near her eye? I've read that spots near the eyes can be bad but I'm not sure if that fact that she's already on AB means she's protected or if she needs something else? Confused

ValiumQueen · 31/07/2012 19:12

Spots in the eye are bad. Horrible to think that could happen. They are bad enough in the mouth or lady bits, or boy bits no doubt. Unless the spots are actually affecting the eye, she should be ok, esp as on antibiotics, but follow your instinct.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 31/07/2012 19:51

Thanks Valium! :)
The whites of her eye are clear and there's no gunky stuff and she's not rubbing them so I'm guessing that's all good.
I might get a call back from the gp tnrw just to check - she's still infectious (prob for another 2-3 days) so best not to take her to dr if I can avoid it.

Yeah best not take her anywhere unless urgent. Sounds like she has improved somewhat. Hope all little poxers and mummies have a good peaceful night x

Handsfullandrunningforgold · 31/07/2012 20:28

Evening all

MissMavis Hope you have a good night with your DS
sleepytimeglad you have had a good day. Both my 2 had spots on their eyelids too. It is good to hear thats not too serious, even though it looks sore and uncomfortable.

Poxy one seems to have perked up today eating loads and dozing on the sofa.

He is asleep in my room because he was jumping up and down on his brothers bed (his poor brother was in it at the time) singing the something special theme tune Smile

Hoping for a good night for everyone
Thanks for all your help Thanks

Whenisitmysleepytime · 01/08/2012 08:58

Oh god I am so bloody tired this morning.
Dh woke me with his snoring at 11.30, ds needed a wee at 12, dd woke at 12.30 and I didn't get her back to bed until nearly 3!!!
She then woke at 6.15. I made dh get up with her. (he ha been up I the night but was pretty useless)

Ds is home with us this morning as I can't afford any more nursery extras. I have persuaded a friend to have him for a bit this afternoon.

I think a week of ds' pox plus a week on holiday where both of them were unsettled at night plus dd's pox has done me in!

Anyone got any suggestions for staying awake without caffeine? (i can't handle coffee!)

Dd is refusing bottles ATM as she has a big blister in the corner of her mouth. I'm going to try another beaker. She is lots better and is currently wrestling ds. Which will end in tears for one of them ds Hmm

Mavis your dc sound just like mine (except maybe older than 3&1yo!) :)

I don't do caffeine as it makes me jittery and sets off my ibs which is worse when I'm tired. Hmm

Will try cold drinks and leaping about.

I realised this morning why dd wouldn't settle at night- she kept wriggling her feet on me. This morning she has big blisters on the soles of her feet. We still have a while of being infectious I think. Hmm

Am getting a call back from dr re spots near eyes so will report back anything useful! :)

Practically the same age - ds is 3.4 and dd is 15mo. :)

Dd hasn't had a nap yet do I'm going to try and keep her awake till ds goes out and then maybe I can nap!

I don't remember being this tired when I had a toddler and a newborn! Shock

Whenisitmysleepytime · 01/08/2012 13:05

Well I spoke to dr about spots near eyes. She didn't seem worried and just said to keep a look out for eyes that seemed painful or any loss of vision. So fingers crossed alls good and any damage to eyes from pox is quite rare as dr didn't seem anxious at all.

Just need dd to sleep now. She had just enough to take the edge off on way to take ds to friend's but woke up when we got home. I'm making her watch the Olympics in the hope she will drop off.

I am so bloody tired that dd waking up when we got home has had me in tears! Blush

ValiumQueen · 01/08/2012 13:56

I am not surprised when you must be exhausted. At least you just have the one for the time being. GO TO SLEEP BABYWHEN if the Olympics doesn't do it, nothing will Grin

Whenisitmysleepytime · 01/08/2012 20:44

Baby when did not like the Olympics. Nor did she find it dull and boring. Hmm she didn't sleep at all for the rest of the day! Shock
BUT she had her bedtime milk as not al and went to sleep as normal. Shock Shock

How is everyone else' pox-y babes today? Hoping there's no new spots, plenty of crusting and no cheeky itching!
