Chicken pox question. One of my DT's woke up this morning with blistery spots on his tummy, groin, bum and face. Pretty sure it is chicken pox. He seems fine with it not itching yet - does that happen later ?

What creams lotions are good to help wit irriation, itching etc ?
I have heard camomile teabags in a cool bath can help but I am otherwise clueless.
TIA Smile

Morning Smile
Quite a good night here - Poxy twin kept on crying in his sleep and itching his head and neck so I put socks on his hands Grin they were not on when they woke me up this morning though.
Mum2 - I think it is when the spots scab over.
I am off to bath them both in a oaty, bicarb, camomile stew.
Good Luck for today everyone Smile

Thanks Handsfull. Rubbish night here itching, loads more spots theres no room for more surely. Sending dh out for poxclin as soon as pharmacy opens. Cbeebies a great distraction then off for another oat bath. Good luck today everyone.

ValiumQueen · 15/07/2012 07:47

Good idea with the socks, except my girl likes to try to swallow them so is not allowed them in bed, in the car etc. even with shoes on she takes everything off and tries to suffocate herself.

ValiumQueen · 15/07/2012 07:48

Sorry to hear that mum2

ThePhantomPlopper · 15/07/2012 07:58

Thanks Valium, really hoping its not a vomiting bug!

If we're on day 2 are we likely to get anymore spots? She seems to have got away with it quite lightly so far, thank goodness.

ValiumQueen · 15/07/2012 09:06

Oh yes. Day 1 lulls you into false sense of security, day 2 you think it cannot get any worse, day 3 it peaks. It is a horrible thing. Some do just have it very mild, and there is no way of telling how bad it will be. Hope it is not too awful x

Tried to get the tea tree stuff angel recommended. Only available in england, not scotland. WTF? Could get it off internet, but I need it now. DD seems fine now with distraction. Cannot find sudocream. Grr!

dribbleface · 15/07/2012 10:01

We've just got over DS1's pox, now DS2 has it. DS1 was fine, lots of spots but barely bothered by it. Only day 1 with DS2 (9mths) but hes grumpy and miserable and we only got about 5 hours sleep last night. dreading it as he is too young for piriton, wondering if he gets that bad whether the GP might prescribe some. Viralsoothe was great for DS1, fingers crossed for DS2

AngelsWithSilverWings · 15/07/2012 10:25

ValiumQueen - I get it in tesco's but I'm in England. You could try the Tea tree and Witch Hazel face wash which I get from Boots ( I put loads of it in the bath and it really helped dry the spots)

You could try a drop of tea tree oil in the bath but I have read a few things about it being very strong so went for the face wash instead. You used to be able to get bottles of Witch Hazel when I was teenager ( I used to dab it on teenage spots with cotton wool - fantastic stuff!)

Hope you find something to help.

ValiumQueen · 15/07/2012 11:00

I will try boots thank you. Try the wash stuff. I thought about mixing the potion but did not want to do something too strong for her delicate skin. The VS seems to be keeping on top of it at the moment. That and peppa pig and cake.

That is more complicated than Ikea instructions. Glad it is working though.

ValiumQueen · 15/07/2012 14:10

Temp is here. Very grumpy child. Boo.

mum2twoloudbabies · 15/07/2012 15:44

ValiumQueen we have had screaming tantrums over the itches. Pharmacist recommended Eurax to DH but don't know if it's any good cos dd wouldn't stand still long enough to apply it! So back out for poxclin it's miracle stuff smeared on in seconds all over body bit longer to soak in. Dd said it wasn't too bad Hmm never one to admit mummy knows what she is doing. No itching though and no screaming about it stinging like with the calamine and Eurax. She also managed some sleep which is good.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 15/07/2012 16:01

Second poxclin - it's marvellous.

ThePhantomPlopper · 15/07/2012 16:05

My 4yo DD has the pox now too! She puked again, feared a vom bug but when I undressed her to shower her down, I noticed 2 tiny blisters. Bugger. Only DS to go, but think he'll get it in 2 weeks time from the girls.

Impeccable timing, DH was drafted in to do security for the Olympics 2 days ago Angry

Hope all the spotty ones feel better soon!

ValiumQueen · 15/07/2012 16:20

Not sure what to say plopper . Better than a bug I guess??

Today is day 3. Please Lord let it be better from herein!

I am so tired.

ThePhantomPlopper · 15/07/2012 16:29

Much better than a bug - for now!

Hope your DD is about to turn the corner! I heard day 3 was meant to be the worst.

ValiumQueen · 15/07/2012 16:39

I hope so. She seems intent on digging a hole in her forehead at the place the first spot appeared. Same place DD1 has a scar. And my DB come to think of it. Must be a family thing.

I do not understand why they have not found something that eases all the symptoms and promotes healing for all. Perhaps that is an impossibility, and testing on children is unethical. I have heard so many people say they believe in one product, yet for others it is barely effective, and certainly not the miracle cure they are led to believe. The poxicin cream costs even more than ViraSoothe.

ValiumQueen · 15/07/2012 17:25

So mavis did you count her spots? I was tempted to last night I must admit, just to stay awake! Are you off somewhere nice?

Tea tree oil in the bath should be absolutely fine. The one we have can be applied directly to the skin. we use it for cuts and grazes etc too.
