Chicken pox question. One of my DT's woke up this morning with blistery spots on his tummy, groin, bum and face. Pretty sure it is chicken pox. He seems fine with it not itching yet - does that happen later ?

What creams lotions are good to help wit irriation, itching etc ?
I have heard camomile teabags in a cool bath can help but I am otherwise clueless.
TIA Smile

Glad to hear little one is almost there. I do not relish the eye drops. There is no easy way of doing it. Glad it is no worse though. I would think it would be safe to go out tomorrow if you try to keep away from crowds and keep her covered. You may get some comments though. Did you take pictures?

DD had quite a few scars on her body, but only one on her forehead, but it is quite a crater.

The ankle is not painful anymore, just cumbersome and awkward. It still swells if I walk on it, so have to elevate. It hurts if swollen, but not badly so. Bump is getting bigger by the day, and if I am resting my leg, bump and back hurts, plus it is awkward enough with cast without a 29 week bump to go with it. Still I go to the consultant on Thursday, so hopefully will have the cast removed then. Thank you for asking.

Aw Mavis! So pleased he's ok and you've got some ABs to fight that infection. (dd had erythromycin which kicked in after 3 days but made a sudden massive improvement). I'm guessing drs must have thought his chest etc was fine if they sent him home. I'm sure you'll have a close eye on him so don't hold back if you think he's struggling! am keeping my fingers crossed for a but more sleep for you all! :)

Valium - i'll have my fingers crossed for you getting your cast off soon too! Can only imagine what a massive PITA it is! :)

:)

ValiumQueen · 05/08/2012 20:10

My cast is nothing mavis So very glad your little one was dealt with quickly and gently. You also have clear guidance of what to do. Good luck with the antibiotics! So hope he picks up now. Off to bed yourself I think! Rest while you can. >

oh he is so tiny! DD looks like she was being a very brave big sister!

I wish all poxers and mummies a peaceful and healing night x

WhereMyMilk · 05/08/2012 21:24

Bless Mavis, hope all settled now.

DS has had 3 baths, which seems to help. DH is a bit concerned he could get infected from unwashed porridge Confused

Got some poxclin-he is loving the massages!

Lots of crying, very painful for him. Neck still up. Will phone Drs tomorrow-won't take unless they say-as he will be v infectious! Will try and blag a/b's over the phone I think.

Wishing all a peaceful night, wishing one for me too :)

Whenisitmysleepytime · 05/08/2012 21:48

Mavis - aw bless him, his lovely big sis and you! :) sending you many positive vibes!

Milk - tell the dr receptionist he has the pox but also lay it on with a trowel that you are concerned about swelling/ infection. They should have somewhere 'safe' for you to wait or see you at start/ end of surgery. I told our gp what the problem was and when we got there they didn't have anywhere to out us Hmm I loitered in a corner away from the waiting room and held dd close. At the OOH Dr it was pretty empty and they knew if anyone coming in was likely to be at risk. I guess what I'm saying is yes - don't unnecessarily expose others, BUT your ds is your priority so if he needs a dr then so be it. :)

Am feeling thankful that we've started to come out the other side. Things can change a lot in a week so hang on in there everyone! :)

Thanks, will give it a go.

Have just read about the flying status, gulp, fly in 13 days so hope we'll be clear of new spots for the required 6days before hand!

Just as a query, as when it's severe, you can take antivirals, is there any milage in using antiviral cream on the worst spots?.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 06/08/2012 07:45

The dr were really reluctant to prescribe dd any antivirals until it hit her eye. I'm honestly not sure but I thought the antivirals for treating CP were either intravenous is admitted to hospital or medicine form Confused TBH I wouldn't use anything that wasn't prescribed for your ds.

Dd had a very itchy night. She was up for 2h and spent the whole time squirming and rubbing her face and feet on me and the chair. Am feeling rather worn out.
I think quarantine might be lifted here. Dd has one spot that might be a blister. It has changed appearance in the last 12h and looks darker and is less squishy. It hasn't crusted yet but it's where she sucks her thumb so it is unlikely to dry out like the others. Do you think we can go out?!?! Grin Confused

Mavis - how's your ds? Did you get any sleep?

ValiumQueen · 06/08/2012 07:51

when go out! You all deserve it!

Oh good mavis he will probably sleep a lot for the next couple of days.

I have never considered toys tbh. Have you asked your friend about her thoughts? Maybe it would be best to postpone the visit due to immunosupression especially, or meet outside the home? You could give things a furtive wipe, and wash soft toys, but I haven't.

I would not put antiviral cream on unless prescribed personally. Or at least have a good chat with a good pharmacist. I do not know much about antivirals, but if used wrongly or unnecessarily they can do more harm than good AFAIK. Especially with young skin.

ValiumQueen · 06/08/2012 08:33

when DD had some mega persistent spots on her inner labia that would scab and become raw again with each wee. The same will happen with her thumb, but she is not infectious now.

Wow Mavis- 3h! Is that a new record for chickenpox sleeping this week? Am v pleased he's feeling better! :) It's the best thing ever when they start to smile again! Grin
TBH I hadn't thought about disinfecting anything in the house. It seems like too much work to me! If I was you I'd meet somewhere else. I'm sure the toys would be fine but for your own piece of mind you might feel better and it'd save you having to attack everything with detol etc! (which would be an epic task!)

ValiumQueen · 06/08/2012 08:46

mavis that is a bit different then. I would say chat to the other mummy if you can, and give her the option. I am sure your home would be safe, just Hoover up the scabs Grin but you could go out? You would probably benefit from going out anyway? Or you could use it as an excuse to go to Canada soon. I heart Canada!

WhereMyMilk · 06/08/2012 11:05

Bad bad night, bless him. He is in so much pain :(

Screeched when I took his bedtime nappy off, as the pox on his penis had stuck to it-ouch!

Has had a lovely soak though and massage which he closes his eyes in ecstasy too!

Has a whole new crop of pox, all down arms and legs, even two on his palm :(

Seems a bit brighter in self today though, so onwards and upwards!

I really don't think the pox stays in the fabric of a house, or on toys etc. it is airborne and can be caught from bodily contact, but dies pretty quickly I think. It is not smallpox! If it did then nurseries would need to shut following a case for deep cleaning etc.

Have you done a test mavis? Grin I understand you wanting to do that though. My sofa (chocolate leather) was blotchy with Sudocream. I think you deserve to have a bit of a rest though. Do not overdo it, and boil washes would not be necessary. Change the bedding, towels and Hoover, but there will be scabs for some time yet.
