I'm 29+3 with my first child and keep getting told I'm more likely to go overdue. I'd rather not, as I'd really prefer not to be induced. I was just wondering what sorts of stages people on here were at when they went into labour with their first?

Two days early, gave birth one day early. My sister was a week early with her first and a fortnight early with her second. You could be lucky. I prayed I wouldn't go overdue, three hours into 23 hour labour and I was begging for them to stop it and let me stay pregnant forever!

IdaClair · 08/10/2013 12:31

40+17 but I was not induced.

PrincessYoni · 08/10/2013 12:40

Bang on 40 + 0 but had been in labour the 3 days before and had syntocinol the night before to try (and fail) to regularise contractions. Induction can sound scary but its not necessarily full on syntocinol drip right from the get go. I got an epidural at the synto stage as I knew synthetic contractions would be very different and my midwife advised that as I'd been in labour so long, the epidural would give me a break (still didn't sleep though).

ksrwr · 08/10/2013 12:51

42 weeks exactly, wasn't induced, my mum was 2 weeks late with me and my siblings so i had a feeling that i'd be 42 weeks, and i was. i was about to go in for induction when it all started anyway, and happened very quickly in the end.

ChocChaffinch · 08/10/2013 13:33

40+11 and was induced. Not great. Straight on the drip.
in France though, don't they have a 42 week gestation?

peachypips · 08/10/2013 13:38

DS1: 41+1 and emcs.
DS2: 38+5 and vbac.

GrandPoohBah · 08/10/2013 14:16

I was induced at 38+4 as I had developed preeclampsia. One round of gel, my waters went spontaneously and I had DD 12 hours later (no drip). It was a bit more medicalised than I'd hoped for but overall a very positive experience - and not bad at all, which I had been led to believe induced labours could be.

StormBird · 08/10/2013 14:27

DS: 41+3 - it ended in Ventous as he was 10lb 4oz and 59cm long. I just couldn;t get him out on my own.
DD: Still pending...........34 weeks and I'm bored now. I really don't want to go overdue so I'm hoping that it's true that the 2nd is quicker and easier.

thursdaysgirls · 08/10/2013 14:29

DS1: 39+3 - labour was long, birth was traumatic. Forceps with no pain relief, not even gas and air. Left me with PNP and PTSD.

Anyway, I was daft enough to have more kids.

DD1 - Induced at 36+3 due to complications. Nothing really happened, they broke my waters at 6pm, she was born at 7:34pm. 94 mins of bad pain and then she was born.

DD2 - 39+3 - Mild contractions for 6 hours, nothing more than bad period pains. Waters broke at 1am, she was born at 1:40am - so 40 mins of baad pain then she was here.

With my girls I didnt get chance to register the pain before I was holding them, I was super lucky. My first was a nightmare which I dont like to discuss. But it just goes to show not all labours are the same.

BrianTheMole · 08/10/2013 14:33

40 + 1
And
40 +1

melliebobs · 08/10/2013 15:13

42+3

melliebobs · 08/10/2013 15:15

Also at 17 days overdue I refused point blank to be induced. Tbh they weren't that bothered. Got played the dead baby card but wasn't even offered monitoring. Went into labour naturally Smile ended up in a horrendous emcs though. But wouldn't change my decisions if I was to do it all again

overmydeadbody · 08/10/2013 16:39

30 weeks exactly

grants1000 · 08/10/2013 16:45

5 weeks early and 3 weeks early - my motto is be prepared about a month in advance, it you are late you only have a dusty bag of ready packed stuff to worry about, it you are early you have less stress!

I went to hospital with only my handbag with first DS and nothing else, but he was born and the midwives had spare everything so it was all good!

kalidasa · 08/10/2013 16:57

39+5 according to the hospital, 38+6 according to me. (Still sure I was right as otherwise I conceived when at a conference without my husband . . . ) It was obvious it was coming though, things had been rumbling vaguely for a week or so by the time labour actually started.

qumquat · 08/10/2013 17:11

In France they calculate EDD as 41 weeks rather than 40. I've adopted my 'French due date' and tell that to everyone, including myself. My hope is if I go over 40 weeks I'll get less frustrated and not think of it as a problem. My sister had her babies in France and both arrived bang on their 41 week due dates.

GreenShadow · 08/10/2013 18:12

None of my 3 DC made it to 40 weeks and DC1 arrived the earliest at 38+5. The other 2 were just about 2 days early.

lirael · 08/10/2013 19:00

36 weeks exactly. Waters broke 24 hours earlier but they held off inducing me because they didn't have a bed in the special care baby unit and less than 36 weeks was deemed premature.
DS2 was 38+4

Both babies were 6lb somethings.

dogindisguise · 08/10/2013 19:18

37+5 for DS1 (declined induction after waters broke at 36+6)
39+5 (just) for DD (was induced)

BarberryRicePud · 08/10/2013 20:29

40+13, not induced (my hospital do induction at term +14).

Dc2 they gave me an induction date for 40+12 due to not enough spaces on the date when I was 40+14. I refused to be induced early, said I'd happily wait til 40+15 and there was all sorts of fuss created! Held firm though and was given the 40+14 date. Of course, surprise surprise, went into natural labour at 40+13 again.

I apparently just gestate a bit longer!

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 08/10/2013 21:46

40 + 0 for DD
40 + 0 for DS

I run a very tight ship here! Grin

notso · 08/10/2013 21:59

Went into labour at 39+6 but she was born at 40 exactly.
2nd was 41 exactly,
3rd was 38 exactly,
4th was 39 exactly.

bigbuttons · 08/10/2013 22:25

I was induced at 35+2 due to worsening pre eclampsia, but I think I was in early labour anyway. I was 3cm dilated and having regular but painless contractions. It was a twin pregnancy and I'd had Braxton Hicks/tightenings for weeks so didn't realise until I was examined and then told my babies were going to be delivered. Had my waters broken and labour progressed quickly.
