Childbirth

How far along where you when you had your first?

I'm 29+3 with my first child and keep getting told I'm more likely to go overdue. I'd rather not, as I'd really prefer not to be induced. I was just wondering what sorts of stages people on here were at when they went into labour with their first?

37+1. In retrospect I think my body decided it was getting a bit risky to keep him in, my bp was climbing daily and various bits of me were horribly swollen. It was a 16 hour labour; would have been quicker but DS was back to back and stubborn, and needed a ventouse in the end...

40+10 I refused induction and was advised I could go for daily monitoring instead. Dd arrived at the 10 day cut off, I was due to start monitoring the next day.

Well 4 days early so I think it that. Rather embarrassed to admit I can't recall if full term is 39 or 40 weeks?! See that's what a toddler does to your brain Grin

Induced 37+6 , DD was born at 38 weeks. I'd believed all the 'you'll go overdue' stuff so hadn't even finished work at that point!

40+1 and only by 4 hours! My waters broke at 7pm on my due date and no one was more surprised than me. Simply because all my friends had gone over. I Recommend scrubbing the kitchen floor, spending lots of time reading on the loo and of course a couple of orgasms for good measure. Wink

39+5. Like you I expected to be really overdue so going into labour has really caught me by surprise. I didn't reach the 'fed-up' level.

With second it was even worse, 38+6.

38+5 induced with DTs. Labour was under 6 hours all in. I would have hung on and not been induced with hindsight but it was my first pregnancy and didn't know what to expect so I went with the drs suggestion as I was really uncomfortable. I would have lasted a few more days I think, and the babies were fine.

The longer cycles theory surely just stems from the fact that due dates assume that you ovulate on day 14 (of a 28 day cycle). If you have longer cycles you ovulate after that, so your due date should therefore be the corresponding number of days later (so if you ovulate on day 15 when you're at 40+0 according to your due date, you're actually only 39+6).

Wouldn't have thought that works though if you have a 12wk scan (when the pregnancy is dated), only if you rely solely on dates.

I went into labour just before midnight on my due date. DD finally arrived 42hrs later. Not going to go into the details but it wasn't nice. I was induced and is was horrible. But all's well that ends well :)
