Childbirth

How far along where you when you had your first?

I'm 29+3 with my first child and keep getting told I'm more likely to go overdue. I'd rather not, as I'd really prefer not to be induced. I was just wondering what sorts of stages people on here were at when they went into labour with their first?

first one...39+0 and second 38+4 but was an induction as waters went. Thought induction would be awful and dreaded going over in both pregnancies...it wasnt! Also..was induced without going over...doesn't always work that way!

39 + 4 for both DS1 and DS2.
Remember that "full term" = 37-42 weeks, so you're not overdue just because you've gone past your EDD. Remember too that you can decline induction and opt for monitoring. www.homebirth.org.uk/overdue.htm

I second (third?) what has been said about not having to be induced - I would have refused with ds had I not been going into labour every evening then having it stop overnight - the stress was worse than the wait! If you do get to that stage and want to go for it, though, I would really recommend asking if they have Propess - it's a new version of the standard pessary, longer-acting (I believe) and much more gentle. No bam-into-labour, it started as a natural labour would (I had experience of one spontaneous labour before this, not a conclusive study, I grant you!). But it did feel natural and I felt more comfortable with it as a method of inducing a Vbac trial. Just thought I'd mention it as not many people i know have heard of it.

38 weeks exactly, was due to be induced the next day as my waters had broken the day before, but DD got there first :)
Waiting now to see whether DS will be around the same.

40+14 & went into labour naturally, but it ook ages!
I think each woman has her own cooking time & the difference between the first & second may only be a matter of days.

Can I make a suggestion for the end of pregnancy? Make plans, lots and lots of plans for weeks 39-42. Meet friends, books you want to read, films you want to see, catch up with family - whatever. Have something planned for every single day. That way if you're 'overdue' then you have nice things to do, if you're early then you won't have the awful wait which is joy enough but you will have to cancel a whole host of social arrangements/time to yourself enjoying things :)

38+4. My mom said her babies were all about 2 weeks early as well.

Am 35+4 right now and hoping baby is up for an early departure!!!

I was 40 +10 ish.
I would have refused and an induction on the grounds that 42 is the end of the due period and that over due isn't really over due. Other countries say term is 38-43.

My main worry as my due date came and went was that I had family that were due to fly out and I was worried that they would miss seeing the baby. Next time I would ask for them to come at 41 weeks to take some pressure off.

DC1 - 41+5 (natural labour)
DC2 - induced at 40=2 due to size of baby. (Ultrasound indicated 11lb6. It was off but DC2 was 10lb.) I was induced with Pitocin (I'm not sure what the UK name is). It was absolutely brutal and I will do anything to avoid it with DC3.

40 + 12 and I was induced. And it was a really good birth. Induction isn't always awful! I had a really positive experience.

2 days late, but induction isn't always bad! Admittedly my waters had already broken so my induction was more speeding things up than forcing them, but my labour was under 10 hours and did it all with simply hypnobirthing. Not being smug (I have to face another one shortly...) but just want to reassure you your fears may be over nothing!!
