Hello, my name is Molly, I’m 29, 5ft4 and 13 stone 5. I started nutracheck calorie counting yesterday and wanted to start a support thread for those starting their journey now/ 2023.

My weigh day is Thursday but i sneakily took a peek this morning at the Christmas damage 😭🥹.

Anyone else wanting to join? All welcome!

Scores on the doors this morning …

Start weight 11st 9lb
Weight now 11st 6.2lb
Loss so far 2.8lb
Loss this week 1lb

Not breaking any records here Grin

But I’ll take it and am feeling positive about February. January is always such a tough month to get through

Mollybeth · 31/01/2023 09:44

Good morning all,

I am 12.11 this week which is 2 pound down from last week and a total of 9 pound down since Boxing Day!

@Mollybeth mind if I join the thread? 9lbs is amazing well done!! was just looking to rejoin nutracheck and seeing out some motivation. Feb joining as a combination of mine and kids birthdays in Jan make it a tough month to start, but feeing motivated. 2-3 stone to loose.

paulmccartneysbagel · 01/02/2023 10:17

That's amazing @Mollybeth you must be feeling great! Keep going!

Well I found out yesterday I have hypothyroidism which may explain why the scales just aren't budging despite only having 1500 calories per day (after exercise adjustment) for what feels like weeks.

I'm feeling so deflated. But I will stick to it because it's still the best thing I can do for my health. It's got to be good for me, eating less snacks and drinking less booze.

Thank you @paulmccartneysbagel

my mum actually had hypothyroidism and didn’t start losing until she started medication so that definitely will be the reason the scales aren’t budging.

Great, thanks for the reply @Mollybeth will help to keep me motivated I'm sure. Got my teenage son off school for the teachers strike making us some lentil and bacon soup from the pinch of nom book....might as well get him off the xbox!!

2023caloriecounter · 01/02/2023 19:49

I’m another with hypothyroidism. Currently on 75 Levo but haven’t been taking it regularly so need to get into the habit then get bloods booked.

imustbepatient · 03/02/2023 10:27

Hi everyone, is it ok for me to join in too?

I've just downloaded Nutra check the other day after seeing it recommended on one of the other weight loss threads. I've used my fitness pal a lot in the past but I'm really liking the Nutra Check app this time, it feels much more UK oriented and I really like all the info I can track and see.

In terms of weight loss goals, I want to lose 15kg / 2.5 stone and then see how I go from there. The main aim being to learn how to maintain the loss! I feel like I've been dieting all my adult life (because I more or less have...) and twice in more recent years I've managed to lose about 10-12 kg but then lose the focus for being the super strict me that I need to be to lose, and then the weight just comes back again.

This time I'm determined to find that sweet spot of being focused and disciplined enough to lose gradually, but not by being so extreme that I can't maintain it ever after. Which frankly is what I need to do to keep it off, of course!

It's my birthday today, so it feels like a great time to start, as a present to myself. I even got up early to do a home work out, whereas usually I would see my birthday as an excuse not to have to do any exercise!

Whitard81 · 03/02/2023 15:48

Happy Birthday! Sounds like a great plan. 👍

Alliwantistobe · 04/02/2023 07:40

Was out last night and wore the same dress I wore on christmas day. It was much looser around my stomach than it was at christmas 😊

Had some drinks and then chips on the way home. Usually when I do this, I let the bad day turn into a bad weekend, then a bad week, then I give up altogether. I'm determined to do better this time though and get back on track today.

Jackster22 · 04/02/2023 11:46

Every one seems to be doing so well, I was doing great first few weeks then stopped tracking so put a pound on - I have joined the gym with my teenage son so he isn’t going alone so that can only help although I do already play netball twice a week 👍🏻

paulmccartneysbagel · 04/02/2023 17:38

Still not shifting any weight 😞 but hopeful that something will happen now I've started my thyroid medication.

This week I have averaged 2064 calories per day, but active energy has averaged 682 calories burned off every day. So that in theory leaves me in a good deficit.

Mollybeth · 05/02/2023 23:00

Hi all,

im going to be starting the Fast 800 tomorrow for 5 weeks. I’ve got my friends wedding in 5 weeks and me and another friend have decided to give it a try! see if it gives a boost.

I’ll be updating on here each day my calories and how it goes. I’ll still be updating nutracheck with the daily calories!

FannythePinkFlamingo · 06/02/2023 07:25

Weighed in a day early as I feel like I've lost weight this week. Pleasantly surprised to find another 1lb off. Still a long way to go, but 1lb a week will see me below 12 stone by my holiday at the end of June.

Good luck with Fast800 @Mollybeth. I've got the recipe books and although I've cooked several recipes from them, I've never given it a proper go. I've got a wedding this weekend, and have a party at the end of the month so for me to give it a proper go, I need to have a clear diary. Might make March the month when I try it!

orangegato · 06/02/2023 08:39

Morning all, hope you don’t mind me butting in I just love these threads, they keep me really motivated.

I have a couple of stone to lose and have been using MFP for about 10 years. My issue is picking at things and just outright lying to the app so I’m never actually in a deficit. I’m just inherently greedy and can’t go an hour without munching something, I’m like a goat grazing all day.

Starting to try to fast to fix my hunger cues. Trying to go to 10-11 am without food means fewer meals and not that hungry when I do eat. Had a pretty gluttonous weekend so trying to get back on it this week. Determined to not cringe at holiday photos this year.

blackcurrantpie · 06/02/2023 15:07

This week was a write off for me. Kept to my 12-1400 calories for three days but by the weekend I was just done in and couldn’t handle the thought of having to think about every morsel of food going in so I just ate what I wanted all weekend. I think this, combined with my period coming for the first time since I started weight loss, has resulted in a really poor result this week.

Start weight: 183.4 lbs
Current weight: 179 lbs
This week’s loss: 0.2 lbs
Total loss: 4.4 lbs

Still a loss, I know, but hardly worth even thinking about. Never less, back at it today and let’s hope for a full pound this week!

Mollybeth · 06/02/2023 17:54

Hi all,

first day trying to cut down as such today and finishing on roughly 1100 calories. Trying to be better at measuring and not guessing!

How’s everyone going?

OP posts:
encoreunfoisnumber2 · 07/02/2023 09:05

My mantra is if you cant quantify it, then don't eat it eg a handful of nuts. A handful could be a total different measurement to each of us. Everything needs to be wither weighed or counted in exact portions eg 3 squares of dairy milk.
I'm also using nutracheck, but I'm wondering if this app encourages you to eat back any calories burnt off through exercise. I try not to do this and only have my 1200 cals a day. I've put on 1.5lbs today, I'm fuming. First gain this year. Not been to the gym in 2 days, I need to get back there asap. I also hope there is a large poo due too, which might explain the gain ! because I have been very good good and drink wise.

2023caloriecounter · 07/02/2023 09:07

Unless you’re on a different setting to me I wouldn’t say it encourages that at all!

I haven’t posted much last week or so but I am still here and still plodding on.

Hope you’re all good.

encoreunfoisnumber2 · 07/02/2023 09:26

the nutracheck app gives you your total daily calorie allowance for the day, then deducts what you have recorded for food and drink for the day then adds back exercise calories !

2023caloriecounter · 07/02/2023 10:29

It must depend what setting you have it on cos I don’t think mine is

paulmccartneysbagel · 07/02/2023 11:03

Yours looks a bit different to mine.

If I need to stick to 1500 even after all the exercise I do then I quit 😂 because I don't think I would function properly!

paulmccartneysbagel · 07/02/2023 11:05

That's yesterdays by the way, I haven't already sunk 2.2 units of alcohol 🤣

DixieSinclair · 07/02/2023 11:32

You can change it to not include eating back your exercise calories. Go to your settings, then the diary preferences and change daily totals to seperate. Apps like Nutracheck are notorious for way over estimating the amount of calories we burn when exercising
