Breastfeeding calendar?

VictorianSqualor · 12/04/2008 10:07

After seeing some of the beautiful pictures on the breastfeeding photos thread and watching the nude photoshoot on Young Mums Mansion the other day I've had a look for some breastfeeding calendars and it seems there are but two.

One of which just looks like playgroup type pictures, the other is the IBFAN calendar.
If I were to arrange (hopefully in conjunction with MN and the new Breastfeeding helpline) a calendar would you buy it? pose for it?

Hopefully MrsBadger won't mind me linking to this post, but this is the type of thing I was thinking.
Something arty that shows the real beauty of breastfeeding.

Would also be greatful to hear from anyone who is, or knows a photographer or a great location for the pictures.

It would have to be for 2009 now so I'd think we have plenty of time.

Haven't read the latest posts, so not sure if this has been talked about, but wanted to post this before bed.

Has anyone thought about where to sell this? DH works for John Lewis and could ask them if they were willing to stock it - could be a good PR move for them possibly?

kiskideesameanoldmother · 12/04/2008 22:36

finally added a bf pic to my profile page.

purplejennyrose · 12/04/2008 22:40

SparklyGothKat · 12/04/2008 22:51

Yet another myth to expose

KelaS, if he could have a word and test the water it would be great. We're more likely to get free printing etc if it's going to sell, especially somewhere like JL!

Yes a myth taht needs blowing out the water!! I have managed 6 months now and still going (through a nursing strike atm [rolls eyes] but SCBU and parents need to know it is possible.

VictorianSqualor · 12/04/2008 23:11

Totally agree, I had very little help when Dd was in SCBU and as a result stopped feeding her after a few days of tube feeds, I was given a room and a victorian looking pump and left to get on with it, I had no fecking clue what I was meant to get on with!

Send you email with some pics vs , would put them on my profile but files need to be made smaller so they'll upload and i'm off to bed, will maybe upload them later though.

lisad123 · 12/04/2008 23:16

I think i would like to show people that its possible to keep your milk going even when seperated from your baby.
I spent 3 weeks very poorly but still BF Jaz at 6 months
Oh and that they dont gain weight as well on BM. Jaz was below the 4th centile when born, now on the 50th!!

Dalrymps · 13/04/2008 09:01

Morning, I've uploaded the 4 pics I emailed to my profile so everyone else can have a look now

VictorianSqualor · 13/04/2008 10:38

G'morning ladies.
Any more brainstorming?

Love love love the collage idea!
Lol Caz toddler climbing on head is about right for me-either that or shoving her teddy on my other boob for milk!

Starlight I wondered if dd would want to bf again when ds came along but no, she actually decided all milk was yucky cos it came from mummies boobies and refused to drink milk for a couple of weeks

She soon got over it though and now sits breastfeeding her doll/teddy (something which freaked out a few people at toddlers )

MerlinsBeard · 13/04/2008 13:21

i like the idea of having older bf children in as well. Its not something i feel i could do but its seen as abnormal sometimes i think to bf beyond a year.

I think LL did a calender for SIDS and MfM did she not? she may be able to help and her organisation is scary!

If there a few people who can't or don't want to go to individual "shoots" maybe we could do meets ups and bf together in a public place? or is that too freaky?

MerlinsBeard · 13/04/2008 13:22

also, a shot of a mother bf a newborn (ish) and reading to a toddler would help some women. its simple and to the point.

lots of scope to this

VictorianSqualor · 13/04/2008 13:41

I thought that too MoM, maybe mum cooking dinner whilst feedng in a sling, or helping an older child with homework or something.
We all have to juggle feeding with things!
I think the MYTH/FACT could work in quite well with the pictures on some of them too, for example the pump and dump myth, we have a mother feeding baby whilst relaxing at lunch with her friends and a glass of wine, obviously they won't all fit in with a picture but if they do it would be better.

So far I love the Church/Library/Picnic and Cafe ideas, also public transport.

this thread has inspired me to carry on BFing DD, at least for a while longer, and not just to get my photo in the calendar . I'd pretty much cut it right back this week and was feeling a bit glum that we were coming to the end of an era. However, seeing the numbers on here who are still BFing older babies and toddlers and are pregnant and still feeding, it's made me think "Why am I stopping? and who is benefitting, certainly not DD?"

I'm still not sure I want to tandem feed when DC3 comes along in November, but who knows how I'll feel then

How about a photo of a mum BFing whilst MNetting? we've all done it after all!

Any twinges today VS?

lisad123 · 13/04/2008 13:54

im happy to use both my girls in the pic. Theres photos of both my little monsters in my profile

Caz10 · 13/04/2008 14:51

oh yes lackaDAISYcal there MUST be a shot of someone in front of MN typing with one hand!

what are your thoughts on how to get started then VS, what could people do to be of help?

PortAndLemon · 13/04/2008 15:00

There is a really gorgeous extended bf calendar out there somewhere... I'll see if I can find a link.

I'm also a photographer so could do a London-based shoot (not sure where Mr Bumperlicious is). In fact, the way DD is at the moment would probably end up breastfeeding while photographing for a breastfeeding double-whammy...

mehdismummy · 13/04/2008 15:39

well done daisy! My ds loves his milk and often puts his toy ducks to his boobies and deeds them! I would love to be in photo just to show its ok to feed a toddler. Plus my ds is very cute!

lackaDAISYcal · 13/04/2008 16:03

he is indeed mehdismummy.....in fact he's gorgeous

VictorianSqualor · 13/04/2008 16:22

Well caz, I've emailed some printers and am waiting for replies.

What I really need to do is find out how many people are willing to do the shoots and get those arranged, for around june/julyish so there is no incredible rush.

I want to give this thread time to get seen by everyone so I know numbers of models etc.

So far there will be one shoot (with Mr.Bumper hopefully) around the Oxford(ish) area. Saying Oxford because I have about four models from there already, plus it's not too far from bumper, but that's just a rough location.

Also want to see if we can get one arranged in Wales, and one up North, if anyone wants to volunteer to arrange those?

Once shoot possibilties are arranged we need to decide what the scenes will be and get the pics done. I was thinking if we got a nice selection of pics MNers could possibly pick their faves and we could choose them that way, with EVERY person who submits me a picture getting on the collage.

Between now and then it's just a case of getting a printer onside and deciding which charity(ies) to support and what text we want on it, i.e the MYTH/FACT thing.

We also need make-up/hair people and artistic ideas for the scenes.

I'm happy for anyone who wants to help to find a niche and pick a part, that way I can delegate some bits and pieces and try to co-ordinate as much as possible.

It's going to be a lot of work, but I think it will be well worth it and something we can all be proud of.

Anything I've forgot, please tell me, I know some people are more experienced/knowledgeable than me in this area!
