Breastfeeding calendar?

VictorianSqualor · 12/04/2008 10:07

After seeing some of the beautiful pictures on the breastfeeding photos thread and watching the nude photoshoot on Young Mums Mansion the other day I've had a look for some breastfeeding calendars and it seems there are but two.

One of which just looks like playgroup type pictures, the other is the IBFAN calendar.
If I were to arrange (hopefully in conjunction with MN and the new Breastfeeding helpline) a calendar would you buy it? pose for it?

Hopefully MrsBadger won't mind me linking to this post, but this is the type of thing I was thinking.
Something arty that shows the real beauty of breastfeeding.

Would also be greatful to hear from anyone who is, or knows a photographer or a great location for the pictures.

It would have to be for 2009 now so I'd think we have plenty of time.

I think you might Harpsi, I'm in Bicester, well near Bicester anyway.

Can everyone who would be interested in posing email me on fan-fkn-tastic @ hotmail . co .uk that way I can put together a list of people, email some printers, and try and get somewhere sorted for location that will suit everyone.

I'm afraid it will probably be somewhere not too far from me and bumper as the photographer will obviously be an important part of it, though if anyone has already got pics they want considering for it I'd be happy to see them too. I'd also be happy for people to arrange their own shoot if there were say a few of you in Scotland for example and you could get a photographer. I really don't want to leave anyone out!

Also if anyone else just wants to help, hair/make-up on the day or more technical things like actually planning the calendar I'd be very grateful.

VS, I've just spoken to my DH who is a keen amateur photographer. He isn't good at directing people, so I said I'd be his artistic director and all he needs to do is the camera stuff and press the button.

We are in the north, so if anyone couldn't get down south, there is a possibilty for a northern photoshoot too. Again, lots of lovely architecture around here; it's stately home central!

my e-mail is daisybump at hotmail dot co dot uk

VictorianSqualor · 12/04/2008 11:50

Awesome.
It's not as if we're even restricted on how many pictures we need because each page can have more than one.
Thanks Daisy.

cross post; I'll e-mail you later

and lol VS, is this your way of nesting

Bumperlicious · 12/04/2008 11:52

Well, I think the first thing to do is to decide on a theme for the calendar. That will determine location.

VictorianSqualor · 12/04/2008 11:54

I like the idea of doing it anywhere so props would need to be pretty varied.

think it's a great idea

would definitely buy and buy as gifts

would pose too but need a breastfeeding child (dd long time stopped) am working on that though

VictorianSqualor · 12/04/2008 12:05

I can just see all these mums turning up and pinching babies for the picture, poor babies wondering why they aren't getting any milk

I'm just trying to get a feel for what sort of look you are going for vs. would it be like an obviously posed picture e.g. mum looking at the camera while bfing under an Alton Towers sign ? or a more subtle apparently unposed picture or mum's going about their everyday life bfing, e.g. mum bfing in the queue at saisbo's? there's 2 different messages there i think.

MerlinsBeard · 12/04/2008 12:40

i would love to do this! but am restricted as i don't drive so i would only be able to do it if there was one locally (south manchester) or not too far away.

i had a dream about this the other night actually. the photo i took was a woman on the tube stood in the middle breastfeeding and everyone else was blurred. v surreal especially as i have never even been on the tube nor can i take that kind of photo!!

BouncingTurtle · 12/04/2008 13:38

Daisy - where do you live? Is it Cumbria? I would love to do it but I would need a cement mixer some help with makeup to make me look halfway decent! Would love to have a picture like MrsBadger's, I thought it was wonderful!
I live in Teesside, so could offer up my place for a more centrally northern local?

BouncingTurtle · 12/04/2008 13:39

Actually I am going to Alton Towers next weekend, so could get DH to photograph me there...

Dalrymps · 12/04/2008 13:41

I did bf but have stopped now, did you say you'd consider pics that have already been taken? If so i'll have a look through mine....

berolina · 12/04/2008 13:44

Oh I would love love love to do this. Am tandem-feeding ds1 2.11 and ds2 6.5mo. But not in the UK - but am coming again in June, to Devon and Oxford. (Am all melancholy as just spent a week in Ox and am surprisingly homesick).

Wrt a theme, I think something along the lines of liberating bf from the 'feeding facilities' - so all sorts of (strikingly) different venues, which would possibly appeal to a wide range of mothers too and thus not push bf into a certain niche iyswim.

I will do it on the steps of the Bodleian Library if someone will photograph me.

jingleyjen · 12/04/2008 13:44

Ohh so sad I am not BFing and more would Love to do this.. good luck ladies sounds like a fabulous project.

berolina · 12/04/2008 13:48

Title: 'Beyond the Feeding Room'?

lackaDAISYcal · 12/04/2008 13:54

BT, I'm in Leeds, so about as centrally northern as it gets!

Bumperlicious · 12/04/2008 14:02

Bero that is a great idea! Tandem feeding as well, fab!

lackaDAISYcal · 12/04/2008 14:05

I like that title berolina

wrt to printing, my DH was saying that you can get professional quality calendars from some of the print-your-own sites; or rather you can get professional print-your-own sites, ie not supasnaps or WHSmith.

this one looks reasonable but there are loads of others out there too.

Would it be feasible that for a little bit of advertising, ie using the logo, MN Towers would pitch in with the costs?

BouncingTurtle · 12/04/2008 14:08

A couple of years ago I had a calender made up for DH using some pics he took, I used the Asda Photo centre, it was pretty good, but might be an expensive way to do it as they were about £17 each.

Daisy - ahh Leeds, I can get to Leeds, I think it must have been someone else who lived in Cumbria that I was thinking of!

KelaS · 12/04/2008 14:11

Ooh, excellent idea - if I have lost a decent amount of weight in time I would love to do it - DD is 10 weeks so should still be bf.

VictorianSqualor · 12/04/2008 14:23

I like Beros idea about all the pictures being really different, different aged mums/babies/places/styles etc.
Was just talking to DP about it and thoguht that a good point for some of the pictures would eb that you almost don't notice the baby feeding, you look at the picture and think 'Oh, what a lovely picture' and then notice the baby feeding as an after thought (without hiding it of course!)

Also group photos, maybe a picnic type scene? and maybe one with someone with a glass of wine? breaking down as many myths as possible.

Having said that I am just brainstorming here! Please keep your ideas coming, this isn't my project, just something I'm happy to arrange, I want as many of as as possible to be in on it.

how about calendar mums instead of calendar girls?!?

VictorianSqualor · 12/04/2008 15:00

Daisy, I'm going to try and get the printing for free (Look out The Apprentice ), hopefully will be able to do some kind of deal where the calendars get printed for free and the printers get a percentage of the sale price, with the rest going to a BF charity of some sort.
Have spoken to Hunker to see if she ahs any idea which BF charities would be best to apporach.

"thus not push bf into a certain niche iyswim"

EXACTLY!! I think the key would be for it to be as varied as poss, eg I LOVE mrsbadgers pic, it looks so serene and peaceful, but it might not fit in with some people's reality of breastfeeding with eg a toddler climbing on their head at the same time .

younger mummies, older mummies, yummy mummies, big babies, wee babies etc etc etc.

i think it's a great idea. you could have a little bit of text on each page, like the benefits of breastfeeding
