Breastfeeding calendar?

VictorianSqualor · 12/04/2008 10:07

After seeing some of the beautiful pictures on the breastfeeding photos thread and watching the nude photoshoot on Young Mums Mansion the other day I've had a look for some breastfeeding calendars and it seems there are but two.

One of which just looks like playgroup type pictures, the other is the IBFAN calendar.
If I were to arrange (hopefully in conjunction with MN and the new Breastfeeding helpline) a calendar would you buy it? pose for it?

Hopefully MrsBadger won't mind me linking to this post, but this is the type of thing I was thinking.
Something arty that shows the real beauty of breastfeeding.

Would also be greatful to hear from anyone who is, or knows a photographer or a great location for the pictures.

It would have to be for 2009 now so I'd think we have plenty of time.

why thankyou. How old is your dd now? Your little boy has amazing hair! You must be very proud you have a beautiful family

MegBusset · 13/04/2008 16:26

VS I emailed you yesterday, did you get it? I'm a production editor so have a bit of experience in this kind of thing and would happily proof the copy etc.

Hi
DH has some studio lights (I think - great big lights and umbrella things with backdrop) but is only a beginner at photography. I am also tandem feeding a 1 year old and a 3.5 year old so don't mind being the extended/tandem volunteer, may be tricky to get DD to feed on cue though as she only does it when she fancies it these days but love the idea and am willing to help out if possible.

Cheers CM

VictorianSqualor · 13/04/2008 16:31

Yes Meg I did, sorry.
I haven't emailed most of the people back that emailed me.
That would be great. Thankyou, so I'll put you down for proofing it before it goes to print yes?

Just trying to work out who is where and what first. I'm actually amazed at how good a response I have had already, I only thoguht about this friday evening, posted it saturday morning and it bodes well!

SparklyGothKat · 13/04/2008 16:35

lol, i have a pic of dd2 with me in the background bf, on the laptop and chatting on the phone... who says you can't do anything while bf lol

VictorianSqualor · 13/04/2008 16:39

If you want to email me MM on fan-fkn-tastic @ hotmail . co .uk just say who you are and where!
Same goes for anyone else who wants to pose, just let me know where you are and which MNer you are and I can try and work out some locations central to enough of us to make it work.

only just read this... sounds a lovely idea and id buy one.

has anyone asked (have skimmed but not seen it) about the layout of the actual calendar bit? just that one fo those calendars with 2 square cms per day is pretty rubbish for actually using. ime anyway.

Indith · 13/04/2008 17:15

That is true MotherofUBERboys, a bf calendar is going to attract a mainly mum audience so something along the lines of a family planner calendar might be an idea.

how about la leche? Or nct oh and btw can everybody look at the thread started by urbannixie re the mother parted from her baby whilst bf

lisad123 · 13/04/2008 17:34

Im in Herts, as is SGK, so close to London, dont mind travelling.

VictorianSqualor · 13/04/2008 17:39

I hadn't thought of storage. Duh!

With postage we can wait for payment to clear before calendars are posted so can probably cover that cost out of the actual price of the calendar.

Printing, I'm hoping to get for free, from what I have read up it's quite common for printers to offer their services for charity.

How much work would web stuff take? First we need to get a printer, and the pictures, if we know that is definitely happening then there are the practical issues of the actual sale of the product.

Obviously I shall be asking MNHQ if they can do anything, not sure about which BFing charity to use (NCT annoyed me moving all their links and only selling 'reasons' so I'm being childish and asking them last). Probably ABM/LLL or TBN I would think.

As for a sponsor, hmm, needs to be someone who has connections with breastfeeding and won't inflict someone like Vicky Avent-bird on us. I think the sponsor would be very important, we can't have someone sponsoring it that somewhere else is not supporting breastfeeding properly.

Also, I think I've now got 5 people in Oxford area, 4 in London and one in Reading, plus our photographer isn't too far, so would think if everyone is able to travel a small way to a central location we definitely have enough for a shoot here.
Just need to see if the north ladies can arrange anything and if there are anymore people in Wales.
That's without quite a few MNers I would expect to have posted by now as well, so hopefully numbers will increase.

a guy i know that comes in my pub that is a printer. I will have a word!

mimismummy · 13/04/2008 17:56

Hi,

just looked at this thread! I posed breastfeeding for a calendar raising money for breast cancer earlier this year and would be very happy to do so again if you still need volunteers. I live in Manchester, so i odn't know how practical this is, but just thought i'd offer my support to the idea and will defo buy one in any case xx

MotherofUBERboys · 13/04/2008 18:13

i could maybe offer storage, and then i guess doing the postage stuff too (since it would all be here)
nappiesgalore @ gmail . com if youre interested

Lizzer · 13/04/2008 18:24

Just adding my support to your ideas, i live in the NW if anything happens up here i'd glady get involved...just uploaded a pic of ds bfing on my profile too

Lizzer · 13/04/2008 18:25

VictorianSqualor · 13/04/2008 18:26

I think to some degree the scenes are going to arise out of the shoots, but if we are goimg with 'Beyond the Feeding Room' and the idea of as much diversity as poss (vital, I think, as we don't want a calendar with an 'exclusively middle-class' feel iyswim), we need a big variety of public spaces. My suggestions (inspired in part by other MNers' ideas) would be:

Public transport of some kind
Church/religious service
Outside a (large, grand?) public building (I'll do the Bod )
Park, botanic garden or similar (possibly with more than one - group of mothers on a picnic?)
Cafe/bar (another good one for a group one, and yes, with wine!)
Museum/gallery?
Waiting room at doctor's, office or similar
Swimming pool
Shopping street or centre

Some of these could need permission to use the photos.

I know the woman who runs the Berlin English LLL pretty well, and quite a few MWs and birthing centre people here, so can help get the calendar international exposure

lackaDAISYcal · 13/04/2008 18:40

how about asking MN if we can get this "sticky" status so everyone sees it?
