Nipples and boobs hurt

Latch seems ok, although takes time as he thrashes his arms around - where the hell do they go?

Congratulations! This is the hardest week past now, and it will get much easier from this point

BahHunkerBug · 06/12/2007 13:37

Congratulations on a week of exclusive breastfeeding, JARM! Here's to the next one!

mamijacacalys · 06/12/2007 13:38

Fantastic thread. Well done!

The worst is over (cracked nips etc).
Keep sitting on the sofabed and eating the brownies....I did that with both mine for the first 8 weeks or so....! Bf is fab for losing the weight initially so it doesn't matter how many brownies you have!

Don't worry to much about the weight gain... I know you can't 'see' how much he's having but as long as he's feeding regularly and there are plenty of wet nappies it's fine....FWIW DD once out a pound on in a week!

BTW, mine had their 'favourite' sides too, so don't worry if he only likes one side at night or another in the day.

Good luck!

DanJARMouse · 06/12/2007 13:43

bit worried.... no poo for over 24hrs. lots of wet nappies though, is this ok?

DanJARMouse · 06/12/2007 14:18

its ok, panic over... smelly boy!!!

Katz · 06/12/2007 14:51

danJARMouse bonus of breastfed babies some only fill their nappies once every few days, dd1 was a poo twice a week baby! so don't panic if he doesn't go every day.

BahHunkerBug · 06/12/2007 14:54

Katz, that's only good advice for older babies - over two weeks at the very youngest

DanJARMouse · 06/12/2007 17:10

we have now had the up the back explosion... guess he just wanted to keep me on my toes!

BahHunkerBug · 07/12/2007 21:57

at up the back - only cos it wasn't me changing it!

How's it going today, JARM?

DanJARMouse · 08/12/2007 05:00

WE are doing fab tbh! I had a little meltdown on thursday evening, hormones and tiredness i think... dissolved into tears, but was fine after a 4hr stretch of sleep (he's a good boy!)

Couldnt imagine giving him a bottle you know.... however nice it may seem to skip a feed and have some me time, i know he thriving on me and me alone!

Only really annoying thing is his hiccups - do you think its something im eating or drinking causing them or is it just him? We must have hiccups every 2hrs!!!

Also.... not sure if im weird or what, but i thought with BF it would mean soaking wet breastpads, patches on tshirts etc etc - im not leaking at all. Nada. Zilch! IS that ok?

Also.... When can i start to express and build a supply of EBM in the freezer?!

kiskidee · 08/12/2007 05:16

no leaking breasts is perfectly fine. i would wait for expressing too.

moondog · 08/12/2007 13:32

Brilliant JARM.
Bloody brilliant.

I would leave the expressing bit for a couple of weeks tbh. It would help to get your supply and confidnece really sorted first. It's still very early days remember.

Btw,I never leaked a drop (well I did once, literally one drop!)in 3 years of breastfeeding

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 08/12/2007 13:34

[happy sigh]

I used to gaze at mine when I was feeding them and think "I made all of that!"

Top tip for freezing EBM: Don't leave the sodding door open as you have to throw it all away...

DanJARMouse · 08/12/2007 14:06

wasnt planning on expressing til after xmas anyway, but just wanted to check if there was a set time you should wait.

did i tell you all i almost did my first ever public bf yesterday?? we took the girls to mcdonalds and i escaped and fed the boy in the car! still far too much norkage on show!

how do you bf discreetly??? im currently stuck up in my room feeding daniel with the inlaws downstairs!!!

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 08/12/2007 15:55

Remember that what you can see and what everyone else can see are completely different. It was the latching on that involved the most flashing for me, once on it's fine IME.

A shawl is good though.

LIZS · 08/12/2007 15:58

Can you pratice in front of a mirror or use a shawl/muslin to screen you.

moondog · 09/12/2007 22:06

How are you getting on JARM?
How is your dh with all this?
Is he finding it novel or different or what?

DanJARMouse · 10/12/2007 02:29

we are ok thanks moondog! having a few little issues but he is poorly so hoping things settle down again soon.

dh has been fab to be fair, really encouraging, but a little as well i think! He did say the other day he wished he could BF!!

moondog · 10/12/2007 08:48

Oh he always sounds lovely your dh!
He can give a bottle of EBM soon but in the meantime,I'm sure you can find enough for him to do about the house.

DanJARMouse · 11/12/2007 13:08

Can I just say BFing is THE BEST THING EVER!!!

HV has just been out and weighed Daniel. Last Tuesday he was 7lbs 1oz so had lost 6oz in his first 5 days.... today he is 8lbs 6oz so has gained 8oz in a week!

My short feeds are obviously doing the business!

Just about to get my head down for a bit as DH has taken Daniel into town to pop to the library and he always sleeps in his car seat!

HV is very impressed with me BFing too - she was very encouraging, and said especially after FFing the girls, Im doing fantastically well. Has really given me a boost after what wasnt a very good night - my fault, didnt go to bed til 2am and Daniel woke at 4,6 and 8! He has only had an hour since 8am so he is in dire need of his nap now and so am I!

Im still being a lazy cow though, fresh PJ's every day and lounging on the sofa bed.... i really should start to get myself properly dressed and try to get out the house, but with the weather having been so crappy, its been easier to snuggle in bed instead!

Thank you to all of you that have helped me through the tough first few days, 12 days in now and am very proud of myself!

DanJARMouse · 11/12/2007 16:10

bump x

MerryXMoss · 11/12/2007 17:19

Jarm so pleased to hear it's going well for you, you must be really proud of yourself.

DanJARMouse · 11/12/2007 17:29

Just realised it should say last Tuesday he was 7lbs 14oz not 7lbs 1oz!!

moondog · 11/12/2007 18:31

Oh Jarm how brilliant!!!

I think your HV is right-it must be even more difficult after having ffed amd with you having two very small children to look after as well.

If I were you I'd keep on with the loafing routine a bit. Am very actually.I'd love an excuse to hang around the house in my pjs and my youngest is 3.

Well done girl-it is the nectar of the Gods that you are giving him!!!

laundrylover · 13/12/2007 09:14

JARM, well done you!! 8oz is fantastic - he's going to be a big bopper.

I agree Moondog - I would love to be lounging around in my PJs.....those were the days!!
