moondog · 02/12/2007 22:33

Sweetkitty,how are things with you?

5goldrings4monkeybirds · 02/12/2007 22:33

second all previous comments on older childcare with baby no.3 and would kindly add that breakfast cereal is perfectly adequate for 3 meals a day when desperate...

SoupDragon · 02/12/2007 22:36

It's a well known fact hat chocolate brownie bites are essential for successful breastfeeding...

sweetkitty · 02/12/2007 22:36

I'm OK moondog DDs getting over chicken pox, mys ore throat is disappearing, am 8+4 weeks today and saw my little pumpkin on Thursday kicking away, sickness still a pain but all in all things are fine ty

Keep panicking about the 3 under 5 thing!

moondog · 02/12/2007 22:37

If particularly stretched, feed them in the bath too.

moondog · 02/12/2007 22:38

Blimy SK.
You're pg!!

Crikey!
How old is oyur baby?
I was thinking of the b/feeding actually.

Congratulations though. You'll manage!

hunkermunker · 02/12/2007 22:38

What is the girls' routine in the week? Do they have a preschool or something to go to at all?

At least you won't be shelling out for formula if you keep bfing.

Will see if I can find a video for you re feeding lying down - you can always lie back and let him latch on a la breastcrawl - there's a link to that on the blog. Sorry I haven't had time to put more useful stuff on there for you!

5goldrings4monkeybirds · 02/12/2007 22:39

baths, moondog? Oh noooooooooooooooo...

...there's nothing that baby wipes can't do when you've got 3 IMHO. My bath has a parched crust on it its been so vacant for the last 3 months...

hunkermunker · 02/12/2007 22:39

Not video, but some nice tips and couple of pics here

sweetkitty · 02/12/2007 22:40

moondog - have you got me confused with someone else my youngest is 22 months hasn't BF for 7 months now?

DanJARMouse · 02/12/2007 22:40

jessi goes to nursery afternoons mon-fri so a bit of peace.... am going to see if we cah find a toddler group for dh to take becca to.

i will do this, i have to do this.... the milk tokens would only just cover the formula and i like getting free milk and fruit and veg thanks!

Gingerbear · 02/12/2007 22:42

found it, not a vid, but photos, helped me a lot

Gingerbear · 02/12/2007 22:44

Cross posted with hunker - thank you!

sweetkitty · 02/12/2007 22:45

JARM - is there any way you could get a nursery place for Becca too?

I know around here (DD1's nursery) there is a toddler room and it is mostly children who have been referred by HVs etc. I know a few Mums who have had newborns have been offered a few mornings a week for their toddlers. Be worth talking to your HV about it, would be good for Becca too.

I was thinking of doing this with DD2 once DB2 comes along as she will be 2 1/2 but the way here birthday falls she won't go to nursery until the Easter but I cannot even pay to put her in the same nursery as DD1 as it is full.

hunkermunker · 02/12/2007 22:46

That's fantastic - so you will have time just you and Daniel - and you can snooze if he is sleeping. You WILL crack this, I know you will.

moondog · 02/12/2007 22:48

Hmm,I think I must have Sweeetkitty.
Congratulations anyway! You'll manage that gap fine.
God,my kids spent (spend) hours in the bath while I sit with them and read the paper.it gives me some peace.

I have been known to shove mine in the bath when they are tired and bored just to get a bit of peace, they could spend hours in there.

moondog - no problems I will have a 4yo and a 2 1/2 yo so not too badbut still scary.

MrsHarry · 02/12/2007 23:41

JARM, you are doing brilliantly. My DD is 6 mths old but it still feels like only last week that I was in the same position as you, first time BFer as well (tho also my first born).
However, DD born on a Friday and I didn't leave hospital till the Monday so for that entire weekend I was having HEAPS of much needed help and advice from several different midwives.....some of them actually holding baby in one hand and my boob in the other and trying to connect them!!!

We couldn't get a good latch at all so I needed constant help. The MW's that were on night duty knew to come to my room at about 3am to try and help. You are missing all of this and are doing it by yourself so absolutely NOT shite

Make sure you talk to MW tomorrow and get as much help as poss. I was offered as many visits as I wanted and also booked Maternity Support Workers (or something like that, kind of MW assistants) to come at expected feeding times to help me.

Also, 10-15 mins every 2 hours is fine at this early stage, especially if he seems to be drinking, but if he doesn't always drink loads, that's ok too....it kind of evens out. I was told to try and aim for at least 10-15 mins every 2-3 hours, but this didn't always happen.

I also thought she was constantly hungry as she seemed to be making the 'hungry' cues constantly; after a couple of weeks we gave her a dummy and she settled really quickly. This might not be the same for you but the MW suggested she just might be very 'sucky'. Anyway it certainly helped.

But...good luck, keep at it and don't worry too much. Once you start to get support and an opinion on the latch you'll probably feel better.

And many congrats on your gorgeous Daniel!! I adore my DD at this age, she's so much fun, but every so often I wish I could have her 'newborn' again just for a day!

DanJARMouse · 03/12/2007 07:42

I finally gave up at about 11.30pm last night and got DH to take Daniel out in the car to try and get him to sleep and give me some rest!

Well, he fell asleep really quickly in the car, and didnt wake til 6.45am! OMG! He slept through the night!!!

Of course boobs are like rocks this morning, so expecting to feed quite a lot this morning, but THANK YOU to all of you last night, I feel a lot more positive this morning, and I have reached a stage I have never reached with regards to BF before, so its still an achievement.

Can I also say that OMG - my tummy has gone down SO much, im not so jelly belly now!!!

Again, THANK YOU xxx

sweetkitty · 03/12/2007 08:30

Morning JARM, see he was stocking up for the night and he's brought all your milk in with him. He's less than a week old so things will be up and down for a while. I don't think theres anyone here how hasn't had a night like you just did. I remember about 3am one morning crying because DD1 had woken up wanting fed and it was so painful and she had only been down about an hour. It's a bloody lonely time I think if I had had formula in the house I would have cracked but we somehow got through it.

Keep going XXX
