JARM, you are doing brilliantly. My DD is 6 mths old but it still feels like only last week that I was in the same position as you, first time BFer as well (tho also my first born).
However, DD born on a Friday and I didn't leave hospital till the Monday so for that entire weekend I was having HEAPS of much needed help and advice from several different midwives.....some of them actually holding baby in one hand and my boob in the other and trying to connect them!!!
We couldn't get a good latch at all so I needed constant help. The MW's that were on night duty knew to come to my room at about 3am to try and help. You are missing all of this and are doing it by yourself so absolutely NOT shite
Make sure you talk to MW tomorrow and get as much help as poss. I was offered as many visits as I wanted and also booked Maternity Support Workers (or something like that, kind of MW assistants) to come at expected feeding times to help me.
Also, 10-15 mins every 2 hours is fine at this early stage, especially if he seems to be drinking, but if he doesn't always drink loads, that's ok too....it kind of evens out. I was told to try and aim for at least 10-15 mins every 2-3 hours, but this didn't always happen.
I also thought she was constantly hungry as she seemed to be making the 'hungry' cues constantly; after a couple of weeks we gave her a dummy and she settled really quickly. This might not be the same for you but the MW suggested she just might be very 'sucky'. Anyway it certainly helped.
But...good luck, keep at it and don't worry too much. Once you start to get support and an opinion on the latch you'll probably feel better.
And many congrats on your gorgeous Daniel!! I adore my DD at this age, she's so much fun, but every so often I wish I could have her 'newborn' again just for a day!
