Nipples and boobs hurt

Daniel wants to suck 24/7 but sleeps at the breast

obviously milk not in yet

Latch seems ok, although takes time as he thrashes his arms around - where the hell do they go?

Sorry, im so new to all this!

Jen - dont worry, im only jesting - just cant imagine going out properly for a while yet.... i made that mistake with the girls and burnt myself out!

Daniel has been asleep for a while now, but we are just off to register him and then i will wake him for a feed when i get back.

He really is a gorgeous little boy!! (I know im biased!)

Jarm - well done darling, just read entire thread!! Brought tears to my eyes you are doing brilliantly and it's total inspiration for a soon to be first time Mum who really wants to breastfeed.

All those that have posted such brilliant advice and words of love and support can I just say aaaaahhhhhhhh you're all wonderful lovely people and I may well be seeking you out myself in a few days/weeks when I will undoubtly be faced with all the same qu's/worries that Jarm has experienced.

morning all!

all still going very well, little man is a star! no pain, the cracked nips from a few days ago have healed and all is good!

sleep was a little more disturbed last night but i expected that as he didnt have a very long feedathon during the evening, made up for it t 4.30am!!!

he really is my little star, but its you lot being here for me and encouraging me that has made all the difference.

just a quick question though... how long should i let him go between feeds? he is tending to sleep for 3hrs of an afternoon.... ans i wake him, is that too long?

jarm -can i ask how you sorted the cracks? did you use the lanoish cream or have they just healed themselves? ta hun. hope you have another fab day

ive been using the avent cream but also letting the air get to them as much as possible

Jarm great to hear you're doing so well.

I don't think three hours is too long to go between feeds during the day, but if your boobs are starting to feel heavy and you need some relief, why not wait until he has a light period of sleep (he will get twitchy and stir) and pick him up, put him to the breast and let him "dream feed"?

Yep, you can do as Mossy says - or leave him if you're not uncomfy. Probably not much longer than three hours though, during the day.

I have been waking him after 3hrs because thats all my boobs will hold out for! He's had 2.5hrs now and im just starting to feel like i need him to feed!

We had major feedathon this morning, pretty much all morning he was latched on at some point! They tend to do this dont they?! Its not that he isnt getting enough is it?!

I know i know, im starting to doubt myself again, but he is a trooper and by tomorrow I will have BF for a whole week all by myself!!! I can do this, and I will do this - even MIL was shocked last night when DH told her I was BFing.... so i put 2 fingers up to her! (Thank god she is 200 miles away!)

Again, if it wasnt for you lot, this wouldnt have happened, and you will never know how much it means to me. I also have to thank DH I guess because without him dealing with the girls and the house side of things I couldnt have done it either.

Going to put some new pics on profile, so stand by!

JARM you should change your name to Milky! sounds like you have a good supply of gold top! if you are waking him to feed him after 3 hours then he sound like he is doing really really well.. Perhaps if you feel like he is feeding constantly in the morning, jot down the times that you are feeding him - it can help you to see patterns that he may have and it can also help you see the gap getting bigger inbetween feeds.
Just a thought anyway. DONT doubt yourself.. look at your contented snuggly boy and know that you are brilliant!

No, it's not because he's not getting enough.

It's because he can't play Top Trumps yet, so he's doing his current favourite thing to pass the time till he's old enough to hold the cards

Oh, and he has a tummy the size of a walnut or somesuch weeniness.

You're doing brilliantly - all we have to do is tell you, but it's you who's doing it. You can feel VERY proud of yourself, lovely JARM!

hunker have sat here giggling at what sort of top trumps babies could play ( because I am sad like that!) "I was 7lb 28cm at birth"
well " Iwas 9lb4 and 34cm" or "it took my Mum 8 hours to have me" "well it took my mum 23 minutes"
OR I can refil my nappy in 5 minutes

Thanks girls, i knew it really deep down, just need reassuring!!

Guess I best go and try to wake the boy for a feed, although it is tempting to leave him, my boobs are telling me a different story and tbh, I want a cuddle!!! I miss him when I dont get cuddles! DH took him to town in the sling at lunchtime and i was almost in tears because I wanted my baby back!!!

Oh JARM that is so lovely - I felt like I had a teenage crush on DS2 - got all envious if other people cuddled him for too long!
Off to think up some more top trumps - Ahh just though DS1 calls farting "trumps" well babies certainly can do some top trumps in that department!

Jarm this is such a good feeling thread
My exp and his lovely girlfriend have just had their ds 3 wks early and little lad is thrashing and struggling, and exp said everyone said it was touch and go
Am offering as much support and reassurance as I can
Will direct them to this thread, as it is their first (and as him and I were split tos fair to say he saw sweet FA of me and ds1 (now 13) and our feeding)
so many congrats
first 6 weeks sem hard work

between 5-6 mths can also be tough
after 7 mths

JARM - it took ds and me about 4 weeks to really 'get' bfing. It worked but didn't seem to be exactly right. We got there, basically because I was too lazy to buy all the gear for bottle-feeding .

no going back now! ive done a week... omg my little boy is a week old today!!!

bad night sleep wise and he refused left breast all night but took it this morning no problem... fussy little man!

dh wants to bf though because the girls are driving him up the wall!!
