Hey well done you and a bloody sleep through

I should be going through this by now lol.

moondog · 03/12/2007 08:40

There you go girl!!!
He has lots and lots of lovely milk today and in the meantime you are burning up calories fast!!
I tell ya,if it was advertised as some LA style beauty and health treatment, people would be queueing up for the privilege and paying through the nose for it and you have it for free!!!!

Mossy · 03/12/2007 08:45

Breast crawl video you can try this as this reflex to find the breast unassisted lasts about six weeks, not just after labour as you might infer from the video.

Biological nurturing - in a bath! Okay this baby takes a bit longer to get going than you might expect but you can help, mainly by wiggling baby's feet with your hands!! Babies usually find the breast a bit faster if you use that little trick. (And do not read the horrible comments by nasty people under the video.)

HTH! Often babies latch on better if you let them find their own way, and that makes you less sore.

Oh and if you don't already have a tube of Lansinoh email me msrlmoss @ hotmail . com as I too have one I would be happy to post to you!!

True theres nothing like BFing to get rid of a jelly belly, I remember the MW who delivered me with DD1 commenting on the size of my bump and then 2 days later she had never seen a belly go as quick, I was back in my size 10's the next day (never happened with DD1).

DD2 was the ultimate BFer though I think she spent her first week attached to me, she was 9lbs 3ozs born a week later dead on 10lbs never lost an oz bless her.

I would say first 3 weeks of BFing hard after that it gets a lot better. Just remember

it will get better
it's not always like the first couple of weeks
you are doing great

Nbg · 03/12/2007 08:51

Oh the student MW that works with my MW (and will hopefully be at the birth) has been telling me about the biological nurturing.

SoupDragon · 03/12/2007 10:41

You're doing fab

hunkermunker · 03/12/2007 15:11

Fantastic, JARM! How are you this afternoon?

DanJARMouse · 03/12/2007 15:30

its going pete tong

he wont latch at all, just keeps snuggling up to them and licking, if i do get him latched he pulls off after a few minutes.

whas that all about, he couldnt get enough of me last night and today he just wont play.

arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

sweetkitty · 03/12/2007 15:39

I don't know enough about BFing to put it into words I'm sure hunker or tiktok can put it better than me, they can be fussy little things at this stage pulling on and off like that.

Is there a BF helpline or counsellor you could phone, it sounds like you need someone to come out and watch you latch him on.

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 03/12/2007 15:40

Have called Hunker for you on another thread JARM

hunkermunker · 03/12/2007 15:51

Is he upset?

Is he hungry?

If he's not upset, just let him nuzzle and lick you - he's learning about his mummy. Think how amazing it is for him - how overwhelming for his senses, to be near to his warm, familiar, favourite person in the world. He knows your voice, your scent, your heartbeat better than anybody else - and he's still such a fresh, new baby.

When he latches on, if it's not painful, let him feed. If he pulls away, stroke his hand, talk softly to him and gaze at his newborn scrumminess.

And have another hug - oh, and do three deep breaths, now, and relax your shoulders. Because they're tense, aren't they?

hunkermunker · 03/12/2007 15:51

(Thanks, Scooby )

pooka · 03/12/2007 15:55

Crikey HM, talk about making broodiness even worse!

hunkermunker · 03/12/2007 15:56

Pooka

DanJARMouse · 03/12/2007 15:57

Hunker,

He's not upset at all when snuggling, if DH has him he starts to fret, so i think "feed" get him close but he wont latch.

His last proper feed was this morning.... that cant be good surely?

He is asleep now, not sure for how long though!

Will keep trying and keep perservering. Nipples are very very sore now, but its ok once the initial 10 seconds or so is over.

have answered an email from a MNer who has offered to send some of the posh stuff, the avent stuff is helping a little but not much!

Latch seems ok though, wide mouth, bottom lip curled back etc but im still cracked and sore.

Will ask MW tomorrow - if she has time, my MW today ran in and ran out again Guthrie test tomorrow and a weigh in, so will be able to see if what im doing is having an effect!

Just a though JARM but you said your boobs were hard from him sleeping all night? Are you a wee bit engorged making it hard for him to latch on - if so try expressing a bit off by hand (do you know how to do that?) to soften your boob up a bit and make it easier for him to get a mouthful?

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 03/12/2007 15:59

No probs Hunker

JARM keep up the good work, follow Hunkers great advice your doing fab

SevenSwansASlouching · 03/12/2007 16:02

Sorry JARM. didn't mean to hijack your thread jjust to talk to hunker.
You are doing a grand job. Daniel is surely fine and I am sure you will be reassured when he is weighed tomorrow. Well done you!
The lansinoh will help MASSIVELY too.

hunkermunker · 03/12/2007 16:03

So has he been latched on for a few minutes between this morning and now?

Has he pooed today? Wet nappies?

He may well want to feed a lot tonight - newborns often have night and day muddled up and he did have a long sleep last night. But he might not - he might have a wakeful, feedy evening and sleep relatively well again. Or he might do something else. I found the unpredictability of it fairly daunting, but it does get better, I promise.

Is now the time to remind you how much you want to do this again?

(And your shoulders were tense, weren't they? Have you done some deep breathing?)

sparklygothkat · 03/12/2007 16:12

slept through the night??? callum still feeds every 2-3 hours at night [shattered]
