Nipples and boobs hurt

Daniel wants to suck 24/7 but sleeps at the breast

obviously milk not in yet

Latch seems ok, although takes time as he thrashes his arms around - where the hell do they go?

Sorry, im so new to all this!

Jarm,
Just wanted to echo what someone else had said... if your boobies are still like rocks the pressure will release if he sucks even a little so sometimes this can shock them a little. if you get a warm flannel and put that on your boob before you kick off then that will release enough so the pressure isn't so great.

Great news about your long sleep!! Stick with it you are doing SO well!

ChocolateHobnob · 03/12/2007 17:23

Hi JARM

Just to say you can get lansinoh on prescription here... worth trying there?

good luck!

DanJARMouse · 03/12/2007 18:17

Lots of wet and dirty nappies yes.

He is still asleep but im about to have a wee and a drink and then wake him to feed because boobs need him to!

Im prepared for another night like last night, feed wise, and through the night if necessary, just need to get comfortable! Is it really bad that ive pulled the sofa bed out and been lying on that all day?! At least that way i can lie down but still be with the family rather than stuck upstairs!

Just to top it all off though, DD1 has got nits for the first time - that bloody nursery!

hunkermunker · 03/12/2007 18:19

Waking to feed a good plan.

Pulling out sofa bed an EXCELLENT idea!

You CAN do this, I know you can. Hey, look, you ARE doing it! JARM, you're breastfeeding!

JingleyJen · 03/12/2007 18:29

In the olden days (1970's) ladies had 2 weeks in a hospital bed when they gave birth so they could focus on getting to know baby and feeding and sleeping.. The sofa bed is a fabulous idea.. sounds like a top tip for sharing with other new mums!

spugs · 03/12/2007 18:53

hi jarm, sounds like your doing fabulously. i shall be using you as my insparation (cant bloody spell) when im doing this in march . i unfortunatly didnt get enough support with dd1 and gave up after 10 days and with dd2 24 hrs. but im determined this time. keep it up hun

DanJARMouse · 03/12/2007 18:55

Who said to hand express before a feed? Whoever it was THANK YOU

I managed to express some milk - yes milk! - into a cup, and then he latched and fed like a trooper for 10 minutes.

He came off with milk dribbling down his chin and looking really drunk - just had my first chilled cuddle since he was born!!

Sorry, happy hormones taking over now!!!

hunkermunker · 03/12/2007 18:57

Gomez! You star!

Lovely, DJRM!

See, this is the bit that makes it all worthwhile - hold onto it!

JingleyJen · 03/12/2007 18:58

I am sat here giggling - we always used that term (drunk) in relation to the look on the boys faces when they had had a good feed. So good to hear things seem to be a little easier and that you are experiencing some of the lovely bits about breastfeeding.

DanJARMouse · 03/12/2007 18:59

it will probably all change in an hour or so but for now im happy.

its all thanks to you lot - i couldnt be doing this without you.

IM BREASTFEEDING!!!! For the first time EVER Im actually producing MILK! Im FEEDING my boy!

sweetkitty · 03/12/2007 19:00

DanJARMouse · 03/12/2007 19:02

he's back for round 2!

DanJARMouse · 03/12/2007 19:02

my shoulders are more relaxed yes!!

lower back is killing me though!

hunkermunker · 03/12/2007 19:03

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 03/12/2007 19:06

RGPargy · 03/12/2007 19:13

Oh Jarm, i'm sooooo happy for you!!!! Well done!!!!

5goldrings4MONKEYBIRDs · 03/12/2007 19:43

I feel like I'm lurking in somewhere very intimate and lovely here you've clearly all been MN for a long time and know each other well, but just wanted to do a mini-hijack to say how brilliant and lovely and supportive all you MNers are and how wonderful to gently nudge your friend to such a lovely outcome!

DanJARMouse · 03/12/2007 19:50

its an amazing place, it really is!

we are now feeding every 15 mins for 5 mins.... is that ok?

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 03/12/2007 19:52

I would say yes DJRM i would let him feed as much as he wanted, fill him up ready for later tonight, dd used to feed alot in the evenings.

5goldrings4MONKEYBIRDs · 03/12/2007 19:53

sounds like you might be having your very first growth spurt/frequency day/ upping the supply a bit? Ya just get into the swing then the little angel goes crazy for sucking on you... Or it might be something else but my littl'uns did this quite a lot at first...

MaeWestYeMerryGentlemen · 03/12/2007 19:53

Another lurker, sorry

Just wanted to say that was such a lovely post JARM, so wonderful when it just works like that. You're doing a fab job

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 03/12/2007 19:54

Does it feel good not having to drag yourself out of bed at night to fetch bottles, heat etc? i loved that part of bf as i only bf ds for 4 days so was determined with dd, i loved the fact i could just get my boob out & stay in bed, bliss i am lazy though & crap at night wakings.

DanJARMouse · 03/12/2007 19:57

its fab not having to fart arse about with bottles!!!

he just seems so much happier
