Strangest places you've breastfed

Ok, it was me on the water bus in Venice. It was me with the screaming, hungry baby who popped out a boob and fed him while the boat bopped up and down on the waves.

You would have done the same, right?

Weirdest places you've had to feed?

On an examining table surrounded by two doctors, a nurse and a midwife getting my staples and wound inspected after c-section as the wound wasn't knitting together.

iwastooearlytobeayummymummy · 21/07/2012 22:21

During the parent/teacher consultation evening for DC1 with DC4 happily latched on ( twas the talk of the staff room apparently as if I gave a )

thunksheadontable · 21/07/2012 22:37

In a CBT session with a man old enough to be my dad.
At the cash machine in my local Sainsbury's (to prevent major meltdown from 4 week old as older toddler wrangled with me over wanting to press all the buttons!)

thunksheadontable · 21/07/2012 22:38

Oh and on the floor of the shop in the Royal Armouries in Leeds (again provoked by juggling attention between baby/toddler situation)

thingamajig · 21/07/2012 23:10

I BFed my twins standing up in a car park, whilst the town Carnival amassed around us. I was slightly disappointed that I had finished before we processed down the High Street

ProfessorSunny · 21/07/2012 23:12

on Hadrian's Wall. it was freezing.

spiderlight · 21/07/2012 23:45

I've BF on Hadrian's Wall as well! Also in the grounds of Llandaff Cathedral, on the benches behind the tills at Tesco on a Friday afternoon, in the doorway of a locked church on a busy shopping street in the pouring rain, on a bench in the middle of a Christmas market...you name it!

Mograt · 22/07/2012 00:51

On a sofa in the clearance section of IKEA which was fine until someone decided that that was the sofa they wanted and that they wanted it "now". My hungry son wasn't at all impressed when we had to up sticks and find another spot!

kissingtoads · 22/07/2012 01:58

I was going to add mine but after reading about extreme BF on glacial mountain tops, monastic cloisters, warships and Hadrian's Wall (a popular choice) mine seem so boringly boring!

McKayz · 22/07/2012 11:35

Mines quite boring but I am currently feeding DD in the drivers seat of FIL's bright orange transit van at Immingham port open day.

As DD is only a month old this is currently the strangest place.

suburbandream · 22/07/2012 11:51

On a nice comfy leafther seat in front of The Haywain in the National Gallery.

breathedeeply · 22/07/2012 11:52

At a Council meeting (I was an elected councillor when DC4 was born). I had been told that the only previous cllr to have given birth whilst in office had been ejected from the council chamber for breast feeding some 20 years previously. This time, no one said a thing, and I received only support. The funniest moment was when I dropped a breast pad on the floor and the (60 something, male) cllr sitting next to me chased me across the chamber floor as I was leaving, waving it, and saying "you've dropped the baby's nappy". He really did have no idea what it was.

KnickerKnockers · 22/07/2012 12:58

This thread is sweet x
I have in an Indian Restaurant on a Saturday night whilst eating the plainest curry and avoiding the onions - DC3 was only a few weeks old and needed feeding and changing constantly ;-)
Yes to anywhere needed - many a time standing up at a till checkout or pushing a trolley around one handed - I am sure 99% of people have no idea anyway and they would rather that than a screaming baby - now the older DC are on school holiday I am sure there will be some interesting locations to add.

Totallymum · 22/07/2012 13:39

Hot air balloon in Avon

Anaiasmum · 22/07/2012 13:46

Not particularly weird I don't suppose, but thought I'd add my tuppennorth
In Catholic church during mass nearly every week for the first 12; I was slightly concerned that she'd demand in the middle of her own baptism and had visions of us both leaning over the font!!
In a crowded racecourse grandstand - probably the most uncomfortable I've ever felt!
On the front row of the ceremony room during my brother's wedding (should probably have sat nearer the back but DD1 wouldn't have been able to see!
On the school field for DD1's sports day
Standing in the school hall for DD1's Queen's diamond jubilee celebration tea party (with the remainder of the infants looking on). Not sure the staff were too impressed but needs must!

eastmidlandsnightnanny · 22/07/2012 14:42

I remember doing it when registering baby had a wait in waiting room and started there then got called in and couldnt locate breastpad to move and though of well - anyhow got up started moving through very full waiting area and breast pad pops onto floor - i just carried on feeding bent down and picked it up and went into register and only as we finished she said ohhh your feeding thought he was asleep.

Also did at 6wks in a bus stop on a very busy road, missed a bus and another was 30mins wait.

In many cafes, supermarkets, at work (when nipping in to say hi on mat leave)

MotherofPearl · 22/07/2012 15:08

All the usual places!
Love this thread - it underscores the massive convenience of bf. I guess some kindly people think I bf for worthy reasons, but really it's because I'm too damn lazy to faff around with bottles. Grin

LadyJH · 22/07/2012 17:09

In the queue to see Santa at Harrods.

DoIgetastickerforthat · 22/07/2012 17:17

Sat on the Great Pyramid at Giza.

Lucylockett106 · 22/07/2012 17:21

I'm with you on the boat! From Brixham to Torquay.. Changed a dirty (very dirty) nappy on my lap and then fed him on the bus boat!!! :)

RockinD · 22/07/2012 17:45

In the Coroner's Court in Kettering while waiting to give evidence at an inquest.

Love the earlier post about Terry Hall - weaning expert.

girloffire · 22/07/2012 18:46

not wierd but I an experience!! I was in Costa and was discreetly feeding my 8 week old. A man was looking me with incredible distaste and was muttering under his breath about it being disgusting and indecent. So I took my large, milky and overflowing breast in my hand and offered it to him asking him if he would like some? He got out of his seat and made for the door mumbling about unfit mothers on the way out!! The woman clearing the tables found it very funny and a lot of customers were chuckling away. Its very strange how people can disapprove of feeding from ahuman breast but happily drink milk from a cows udder!!!

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 22/07/2012 19:04

aeroplane, very snug with another passanger sat next me, poor young lad didnt quite know what to do, initially he just kept grinning and looking at me and then looking around him. Then he realised dd was pretty much stuck there for the next hour, he just relaxed and even made converstaion.

in church at my aunts funeral.

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 22/07/2012 19:06

did you really do that girloffire that is pretty vile.

DartsIsFun · 22/07/2012 20:39

I can only offer feeding 5 wk old dd in the middle of the outdoor Proms at Belton House, but then it was darkish and it was the interval (she slept during the actual concert).

And then feeding her at 10 wks sat on the beach outside the Tate Gallery in St Ives, Cornwall.

Otherwise I fed both DCs as and when.
