Strangest places you've breastfed

Ok, it was me on the water bus in Venice. It was me with the screaming, hungry baby who popped out a boob and fed him while the boat bopped up and down on the waves.

You would have done the same, right?

Weirdest places you've had to feed?

Middle seat of a cheapy flight to Portugal. Poor DD was nearly upside down to fit her in/on. The geometry was quite interesting.
In backseat of car, neatly strapped in, and so was I. Good job I have extendable norks.
Disneyland Paris teacups. Thanks DS, puked it all back up. Teacups are not a comfy ride.
Every shop that has a seat in ladieswear near the changing rooms. Officially for bored husbands, actually for hungry tiddlers to chow down.
In the 'collection' bit at IKEA, sitting next to brown flat pack boxes. That was very boring and quite uncomfortable.
Every sort of transport except bicycle...couldn't make that one work, even with extendable norks :), but including a tram at the black country museum.

I loved, loved, loved BF, and was really sad when the DCs gave up, and actually didn't give a tuppenny fuck who thought what about it at the time.

deeply impressed

Question: how do you feed in cars? Do I need stretchier boobs?

Yumcha888 - I was just about to post that! It would make car journeys sooooo much easier!

ReshapeWhileDamp · 20/06/2011 14:08

I used to keep a spreadsheet on the computer of where I'd fed DS1. Blush

um ... everywhere I needed to, really. At a very noisy RAF family day we'd been invited to, in a bird-watching hide in Wales, the cloisters of a Portuguese monastery, during a christening service while waiting to do my bit as godmother (nb. I fed my own baby, not godchild!), on my mum's narrowboat, in the audience at a folk festival, and sitting on a toddler chair in the local village library. I don't think I've ever really needed to feed either DS and thought - ooh, better not do that here.

On the "Grand Staircase" of large shopping centre this morning for the "Big Feed" event for Breastfeeding Awareness week.

Kneeling over car seat (but seatbelt on) in back of car on way home from day out, same again but on minibus to our resort when on holiday. Not comfortable for me but immensely preferable to screaming DD all way home / to resort.

Whilst wandering round an exhibition whilst DD was a snuffly, cluster feeding newborn in the days before she gets so distracted by any unusual sights or sounds that she keeps unlatching and displaying boob / squirty milk to all and sundry! Those were the days!

ElectricSoftParade · 20/06/2011 16:06

Strangest place I ever breastfeed was standing in the crem at my mother's funeral.

So, we are in the front seats of a packed room, standing directly opposite the vicar conducting the funeral and DD would not settle. Out came the boob and she was quiet again. The vicar did not look impressed Grin.

I can now add at the conveyor belt at Yo!Sushi and on a sofa in Selfridges :)

dressed up in medieval kit (I reenact) in the middle of a field with quite a few people looking (but very well hidden due to bid straw hat. Saddest place - at my Mum's wake and in the waiting room of the hospital where she was dying

narmada · 30/06/2011 10:45

I think billyjoel wins for sheer exotic-ness and derring do.

My own are very rubbish in comparison - in a cable car going up the matterhorn; on an ice rink, ice skates on (altho not skating); up another mountain (it was minus 17 c, baby was fine, I feared frostbite of the nipple); in Parliament (not in the chamber, now that would be good).

beckyboo232 · 30/06/2011 18:03

Love this thread :) many many weird places but the strangest was probably at the ally pally craft fayre in the middle of their fancy restaurant-woman at the next table says extremely loudly congratulations dear breast is always best cue lots of looks and questions lol!

HalleLouja · 30/06/2011 19:32

Watching the sealion show at whipsinade zoo this weekend. Must have had some more with ds. My friend fed her nearly one year old at a tasty Chinese restaurant whilst eating was very impressed.

pearlgirl · 30/06/2011 19:33

standing up in the doorway of a very crowded train.

DilysPrice · 30/06/2011 19:38

Job interview in the city - I wasn't intending to but it just sort of worked out that way. Yes I got the job.

knitty · 30/06/2011 20:16

Middle of Trafalgar Square.

yumcha888 · 30/06/2011 22:13

@DilysPrice
No way! I think you're the winner!

Female interviewer though.

Malvapoeding · 30/06/2011 22:33

In the cable car going up Table Mountain in Cape Town - it is a rotating cable car so DD1 kept unlatching to watch the changing scenery and I managed to flash the whole cable car going the opposite direction!

PTA meeting at my older son's school.
Nakuru national park in Kenya. Got told off by park rangers for that as there were lions around.
Inside a Masai hut in Kenya. A Maasai bloke kept poking him to stop him feeding as he wanted a cuddle with him Grin.
On a police viewing platform at a large fair. I didn't know it was a viewing platform - I thought it was a convenient set of steps until I noticed the police waiting to get on it Blush.
Back of the car. Big boobs help. On the motorway and DS wasn't going to settle for anything less so I had to lean over. It hurt my back though.
In the swimming pool. Well, sitting on the side.
In a sling. When he was young and in a pouch sling lots of people looked in to see the cute baby and got an eyeful Grin. Now he's bigger (just about 1) he feeds in the Mei Tai.
In my son's head teacher's room while she was talking to me about him mis-behaving.

and probably my favourite:

On the ride at Legoland at the Trafford Centre. You go around the ride in a conveyor-car, shooting things on screens, and I held a feeding bub with one hand, and shot monsters with the other, with hubby and DS1 trying to get more monsters than me. I wasn't going to let a little thing like breastfeeding put me off winning the game, so I was quite focused on it, and totally missed that they had one of those souvenir photos going on. I realised when we finished the game and walked away past the HUGE overhead screens showing the photos of the people who were just on the ride... Blush. And yes, I did buy the photo. And the keyring. And the fridge magnet.

glitterkitty · 30/06/2011 22:38

All the way through Wookey Hole Caves, over rope bridges, through low echoey passages. And he was about a year and BIG.

kiwijesta · 01/07/2011 10:31

At a PYO farm, had to stop picking the raspberries and sit on the grass at the end of a row. I'd forgotten the dummy an DD was quite fractious.

watto1 · 03/07/2011 21:04

I was in a restaurant with ds happily breastfeeding away when a woman with a crying baby asked 'how do you get him to do that in here?' I was just about to say 'well you pop out a boob and stick him on' when I realised that she thought ds was asleep! I was quite proud of myself for being so discrete!

watto1 · 03/07/2011 21:09

Funnily enough, the only place I've encountered anyone asking me not to BF was in the A and E dept of my local hospital! It was stressful enough taking a toddler to hospital with a baby in tow without having an elderly nurse asking me to feed the baby in the loo. I just said 'I'm fine here thanks' and carried on. I don't think any of the patients there had even noticed.

flowerfairy · 25/08/2011 16:04

Just wanted to add the gardens at Sandringham House hope the Queen approves and isn't some sort of little known law against it and a boat on a day trip along the Norfolk Broads

JiltedJohnsJulie · 25/08/2011 16:25

Probably at home but whilst signing for a parcel at the same time. See the postman run Grin
