Strangest places you've breastfed

Ok, it was me on the water bus in Venice. It was me with the screaming, hungry baby who popped out a boob and fed him while the boat bopped up and down on the waves.

You would have done the same, right?

Weirdest places you've had to feed?

Whilst giving a training course - long story.
Walking around castle in Munich on guided tour.

Seapixie · 20/07/2012 21:58

Have 32K boobs so BF anywhere (public) was a challenge. Did manage on 6 seater aircraft, cliff top v.windy day and my own lounge - inlaws visiting and hatred of me/weirded out by still BF past 6 months scariest thing ever!
Some of these have really made me chuckle! Thank you!

BulletProofMum · 20/07/2012 22:01

Everywhere and anywhere

Flopping boob out of my wedding dress
Wandering around London dungeons
All over thecworld

sealion enclosure at the zoo.... it was the only covered place and it was pishing down :-D

PiedWagtail · 20/07/2012 23:07

In a cave in Paignton, Devon - poss not Paignton but Babbacombe? Anyway, where the caves are. We were visiting for the weekend and ds kicked off. He was about 4 months. So I stood in a nice dark corner of a big limestone cave and popped out a boob to feed him - then the cave tour guide turned to me and flashed his blooming torch at me to show the tour some cave feature. Gah. Gah. Gah. Bfing standing p is not v comfy either.

But have fed everywhere - on a model railway, in church, on the beach, in various restaurants, shopping centres, etc - but the cave was the most unusal!!

While waiting for DS to get his hair cut at a barber's called "Male Territory". Actually I'm ashamed to say I bottled this one slightly and asked to use their back room to feed DD. Silent men waiting on chairs all around the place, not reading the mags, not texting, just SITTING and waiting for me to get my norks out (that's how it felt anyway!)

Sorry sisters.

surprisepotbelly · 21/07/2012 01:42

When my twins were two months old I simultaneously double breast fed in the Haberdashery department. It was quite a feat - I had to balance my arms on the edge of the chair - and while I did it I hummed (quite loudly) the circus tune: da da dada da da da. da. da. da.

Sitting on stairs in the Art Institute of Chicago gazing at Georgia O'Keefe's Sky Above Clouds IV. I thought I would be left alone by people going up and down the stairs, but I drew an audience of two little girls in matching plaid dresses and stripy tights, one of whom picked her nose very thoroughly and carefully for the entire feeding of about 20 minutes.

ZuleikaD · 21/07/2012 05:24

Some of these are awesome. Definitely going to try more places with DC3!

golemmings · 21/07/2012 07:59

When dd was 2wo: at a wedding where I was bridesmaid. I wore a wrap dress for easy access and loitered at tthhe back during the speeches. I'd forgotten there is a toast to the bridesmaid though...

When she was 10mo: in the car just before the start of a canoe race. We didn't have time to warm up - just threw the baby at her daddy, pulled on a BA, chucked the boat on the water and turned it round as the starter shouted "go". We came second and I had to send my partner to go and get our medals because I was sat in his car feeding...

BulletProofMum · 21/07/2012 08:33

The only place I've bottled it and hidden was at work when taking ds1 for a visit

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 21/07/2012 09:49

At the top of Snowdon and near the summit of Ben Nevis and lots of places on the way up and down . Never managed Scarfell Pike.

My Mum, when my DS1 was eight days old, travelled down from Manchester to spend the day supporting me breastfeeding in public. It was the most empowering she ever did for me.

KatAndKit · 21/07/2012 12:22

At 9 weeks, I took the boy to his first beer festival and bf'ed him perched on a stool in a crowded beer tent. Other than that it has been the usual places, although pubs have featured quite a lot for some reason

BionicEar · 21/07/2012 15:29

Whilst having my feet nibbled by fishes, the LO decided to have his snack of Mummy's milk at the same time! Grin

BionicEar · 21/07/2012 15:40

By side of swimming pool as LO was not going to wait until we retreated to changing room! Done that a couple of times! Usually with small children coming over to have a good stare too!

On the Welsh Highland model railway... the conductor decided not to force me off the train along with rest of passengers so I could feed in peace whilst they trooped around museum... well I would have fed in peace if his wife hasn't keep coming over to coo at LO and offering me a cup of tea!

MadAboutTheBoys · 21/07/2012 16:26

In church when DS1 was playing Jesus, in DS1's school assembly (it was ds3 this time!), in a sling while doing pick your own (was so chuffed to figure out how to do it!) and most recently on ds3's birthday while watching the Olympic flame coming past.

Basically anywhere. We've come a long way from the days when i used to express in advance if we were going out somewhere!

bumbez · 21/07/2012 17:23

Years ago whilst at a local attraction an almighty thunderstorm broke, my hungry 3 month old and I took refuge in "splashy the whale" a huge fibreglass whale that squirts water at you. I fed dd whilst trying not to get squirted, surrounded by others also sheltering from the storm.

She is 7 now, we still talk about it :)

schroedingersdodo · 21/07/2012 17:26

Just remembered another one: in the Catacombs of Paris, surrounded by human bones.

NoComet · 21/07/2012 19:15

On the step of a huge fairground lorry. The generator was horribly noisy, but there was absolutely no shade anywhere else.
(steam rally in the middle of huge field held pretty much on mid summers day).

At a funeral, seemed appropriate as the widow always happily BF her DCs when we visited. Sadly they were still only junior age when their dad died.

NoComet · 21/07/2012 19:18

I tried to feed DD1 sitting on a display stand in a quiet corner of M&S. I tried to feed DD1 all sorts of places. She never did learn to do it properly,

NoComet · 21/07/2012 19:21

Sorry I forgot to put DD2 in the first post.
DD2 would feed anywhere, anytime until she could simply stand next to me.
We giggled and said it was time to stop when we realised she was no longer standing on the step into the bathroom.

JollyHockeyStick · 21/07/2012 19:43

I first BF DS in public in an airport. Can't remember where else though. It seems like a long time since we dropped daytime feeding!

zipzap · 21/07/2012 20:13

Bf for 2+ Yrs but nowhere particularly unusual.

I do remember seeing one lady bf and thinking OMG though - and thinking I couldn't do that...

It was waitrose, Christmas eve, completely heaving and horrible. Lady was walking around breastfeeding whilst simultaneously pushing a loaded shopping trolley around. I was struggling to push a half full trolley around with the benefit of using both hands as it was so busy.

I was just Shock doing one or other in the circumstances would be good, doing both together was very impressive!
