Why isn't depressing seated racism on MN challenged more?

So. I am not black but I am not white. My great grandparents (as far as I know) were EE Jewish, black African , white African, Irish, North African and white British x3 . One of my parents was born and raised in West Africa until age 15ish.

As a child growing up in white rural England I was bullied about my big lips (they are luscious- no lip filler required here) and my thick black hair that has a definite kink (Jewish or African- who knows? Irish maybe? ). I didn't really think about my ethnicity until I grew up and reflected a bit more about it. But I did know that attacking people because of how they looked was wrong.

I find the subcultural of racism on MN unacceptable. The threads this weekend about Meghan Markle are indicative `(people claiming they are not racists they just dont like her- for lots of ridiculous reasons- basically she is an independent black woman )

I believe that we should all challenge deeply embedded racism constantly regardless of our ethnicity. Not just the National Front type stuff which is explicit but the deep societal implicit racism which underpins our society.

So why does no-one ever call it out on MN- why are so many posts with inherent racist views allowed to go unchallenged? Why isnt every post with racist undertones receiving hundreds of reports?

Is it pointless? Is MN like the MET police and institutionally racist ?

(5 years of commuting through elephant and castle- everyday saw MET police pull someone over. ONCE only were they not black- so 1000 approx stops- only 1 white)

Yes, Louis has been loved and praised for it. I could write the posts now if Archie had done that......Her parenting, her lifestyle, her Californian ways, her disrespect to the Queen allowing him to behave like that. She would be annihilated.

Absolutely agree, there would have been endless posts on threads saying how Meghan's parenting was bad (there would have been no comment on Harry's even if he'd been sitting on the other side of their child, obviously!) and disrespectful to the importance of the event etc.

The other day someone in one of the other Meghan threads posted "as a white parent of a mixed-race child, the comments on Archie's skin colour are normal and not racist" then immediately called me a racial slur when I politely said it's not really okay for white people to tell black women what is and is not racist.

I am a white woman with a mixed race child and some of the worst statements have come from white women in interracial relationships. The complete belittling of black women. I wonder if some of it comes from insecurity? This group should be some of your fiercest allies but they absolutely aren't.

I do challenge sometimes but not always. As racists are attention seekers and sometimes I dont want to give them what they crave - attention from Black Women.

The MM haters are just jealous because a beautiful woman that isn't snow white, has bagged an English prince and is now a member of the royal family. So they come here to vent as in real life if they spouted their views theyd be laughed at or avoided as weirdos. They're creeps who'll follow people from board to board too.

The Feminism board is the pits. I remember when that Australian journo drew a terrible caricature of Serena Williams. They defended him and used racist language themselves to describe her. They're Black Woman phobic and also in the habit of adoring any racist man or woman as long as s/he gives a platform to views that they like; the racism is excusable then. They're just another limb of the patriarchy to me.

MN Mods I think some are OK and others just have no clue.

The media love to pit women against each other. They used to slag Kate off, now it’s Megan against Kate.

If she was white like Princess Charlene of Monaco, you would all be sympathising with her. Her problems and mental health struggles while in that family are apparently more valid.

You would think MM murdered a bunch of children. Nobody deserves over 200 negative articles a day printed about them. Why does it have to be one or the other? Half the issues wouldn't exist if we weren't constantly pitting people against each other. You can appreciate Meghan without running Kate down. You can appreciate Kate without bitching about Meghan.

I've been with my partner for 12 years and actually I'd say it's only in the last 4 years or so I've really realised what it means to be an ally. Challenging other white people and having those conversations (it's amazing what people will say). Having close black female friends, reading and following people like Emma Dabiri - many women in interracial relationships just think proximity to a black male gives them insight, it doesn't work through osmosis 🙄

This is why I say we can’t have anything!
They hate us so much but are desperate to come into our spaces to spew their hate whilst dictating to us what is and isn’t racist. If you cannot understand the issues that Black women/people solely face, you disagree with us and hate us so much, leave us the fuck alone in our Black spaces to discuss and ruminate amongst ourselves without the hate.

I have yet to read any threads/posts on why some non-Black people like/love Black cultures. Let’s broach the cultural appropriation of Black cultures.

If it’s not insecurity/jealously towards Black women, please explain the health risks that some of you undertake - incessant tanning (or fake tan-obviously no medical risk), medical procedures and/or operations to achieve fuller lips and bigger, higher/peachier bottoms???

If you are happy in your paler skin and like/love they way you look, why risk Skin Cancer to make your skin darker???
Why spend thousands to holiday in warmer climes just to spend practically everyday of the holiday tanning by the pool/beach???

Erm… I don’t think people going on holiday to tan is linked to these racists that mumsnet seems to be infested with. And as for selfishly securing sun loungers? I just feel like you’re moving away from the actual issue (racism, often with one celebrity or person in the public eye as a scapegoat for racists to abuse) into random stuff like someone ‘selfishly securing a sun lounger’ while on holiday. It’s making the actual point look silly.

Having said that I 100% agree that mumsnet (indicative unfortunately of British culture as a whole) has huge issues with racism/prejudice. But people getting cosmetic surgery or being selfish with sun beds on holiday really has little to do with this particular issue.

You clearly have issues if you are actually Afro-Latino. Educate yourself further and read some more. Also, make friends with Black people who you are not related to 🖤

I don’t hate MM at all. I know someone who does. It’s not the colour of her skin, it’s seemingly that, “She stole our prince”. I really wish that some people realised that although some hate her it’s not always racism x
