I name changed, I am a black woman and request primarily black women to send a message in support of Meghan to the royal family. We do not have to explain why we believe Meghan, this is a safe space/board for us.

Harry said, he also said his reaction at the time was ‘shock’.

Yet, he’s on film using extreme racist words and dressing up as a nazi!

Benelovencd · 11/03/2021 19:16

Can I just say nobody jumps to assuming a family member is racist- you do everything and look for every excuse to prove otherwise- for people actually in mixed families especially being the black or mixed ones. For MM to say concerns, I suspect she is minimising herself the contents of the conversations and it is a lot worse than they are revealing, so hanging onto those words and bringing in silly strawman arguments about "context" and "tone" and "curiosity" is commitment to discrediting her for the sake of it. Concerns is a long way off from curiosity and good natured questions about his looks, concerns is not "oh, I wonder if his hair will be ginger!", people have concerns about health issues or something that may negatively impact a child or family, having concerns about his skin tone- implies being dark skinned is bad, being black or having black heritage is bad and is racist.

Benelovencd · 11/03/2021 19:18

Also @TheWarbler

I agree with you, but it is the OP's thread. I will not be surprised when this thread is derailed and takes a bad turn.

Level75 · 11/03/2021 19:25

I can't see any good reason to disbelieve her. All she did was recount a conversation someone had with Harry. If people are saying she's lying are they also saying Harry's lying too, and that conversation didn't happen, because strangely enough I haven't read that.

My assumption is that those who don't believe her don't like her, and for a portion of those a part of not liking her is just racism (which they won't admit, even to themselves).

I'm white with mixed race kids BTW. Hope I'm not intruding, but you're not alone.

MrsMackesy · 11/03/2021 19:25

I'm white and an ally since childhood. I believe her.

Detanglinghairtonight · 11/03/2021 19:26

@TheWarbler @Benelovencd - I meant we should not feed violent tone often surrounding Meghan on MN. It is exhausting to explain racism to those committed to prove we use it as "race card".

I speak English 2nd language, so I struggle to articulate as clearly as I would like.

That’s a separate discussion, nothing to do with their recent interview. If we are going to support OP’s thread we need to focus on the matter at hand, fact is, people are saying Meghan has got it wrong with the skin colour question, when infact she never said anyone asked her, she they asked her husband.

Yes, those committed to disagree will just come anyway.

MrsMackesy · 11/03/2021 19:37

@DropDTuning

I'm non-white and Jewish and i've learned over the past few years that no one outside of the community will believe you. They will all say you have ulterior motives.
I'm white and not Jewish. I believed a colleague who was Jewish and became a good friend. It took her quite a while to feel able to tell me she was Jewish - to trust me with that information about her and her family - because of the many negative experiences she had had. I am sorry that has been your experience and I believe you.
spongedog · 11/03/2021 19:47

I dont believe her. The statements about Archie's succession were not true. Nothing to do with race or ethnicity. Harry would have known about the change of UK law, before Archie was even there.

So for me, once someone makes untrue statements with lots of implications, I no longer trust them.

I am white. But my views on honesty, integrity and liars are nothing to do with colour, ethnicity or race or even allowing for "cultural" differences (US and UK).

Devlesko · 11/03/2021 19:50

I'm a white ethnic minority.
I believe her, why would she lie.
No way would a person make up the comments about how brown her baby would be. That's disgusting.
This country is so different to America but the racism in the UK is as bad as anywhere else.

Topmum66 · 11/03/2021 19:51

if you don’t believe MM is that taken as automatic racism?

MrsMackesy · 11/03/2021 19:52

@MrsMackesy

I'm white and an ally since childhood. I believe her.
I wanted to add, and what is very telling to me, is that Meghan was talking to Oprah about a conversation had with Harry and Harry later confirmed that conversation to Oprah. The information originates from Harry, not Meghan, yet nowhere have I seen or heard his honesty being questioned on that point, only Meghan's. I believe that the denial of it is racist, not only the conversation itself.
Topmum66 · 11/03/2021 19:55

@MrsMackesy Although Harry contradicted what she said, he said it was before they were married.

Tal45 · 11/03/2021 19:59

I'll believe her as soon as she names the perpetrator instead of protecting a racist bigot and thus puts and end to the unnecessary gossip and speculation.

cakeandeatit · 11/03/2021 20:01

I believe her. I'm mixed race and my childrens father is also mixed race but we have very different skin tones. We got this question a lot when I was pregnant. Most of the time I like to believe it came from a place of was curiosity. I don't believe the question to Megan did 😔

plumpuddisnice · 11/03/2021 20:01

I believe her. To be honest I surprised the RF even allowed H to marry M. I was in disbelief right until the wedding.

As if an institution built on the colonisation people theft, trafficking and pillaging of most of the world is not built on racism. Come on.

I'm mixed race.

Devlesko · 11/03/2021 20:02

@Tal45

I'll believe her as soon as she names the perpetrator instead of protecting a racist bigot and thus puts and end to the unnecessary gossip and speculation.
Can you not guess? I'm sure there's more than one racist in the RF, but one is absolutely known for it.
TipseyTorvey · 11/03/2021 20:04

Can I just add though that the main reason Harry and Meghan left was the press. The same press are now making this all about the Royal Family and not her treatment by the Daily Mail etc. Yet again the mainstream media are controlling the narrative and we're all focusing on the other part of what happened. From what H said the royal family are terrified of the press. Did they throw Meghan under the bus to save Andrew and William (affair). Maybe?

Rege · 11/03/2021 20:08

Can you not guess? I'm sure there's more than one racist in the RF, but one is absolutely known for it.

Harry has already established that the racist you are thinking of is not them. The only other well known racist in that family isn’t very popular with the Senior royals and rather unlikely. Personally, I think it’s either Charles or William or perhaps Anne but a bit less likely.

There have been and are plenty of threads on the rest of MN where you can and have had the sort of discussion you seem to want, @Topmum66 so I won't respond here.

This is a safe area for black mumsnetters and as a white mumsnetter I appreciate the invitation to show my support here and in the spirit of the thread, as given in the OP I quote above.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 11/03/2021 20:13

I am white (a mother to mixed race Dc)

I believe Meghan and I stand in support of black women who believe her and whose belief is rooted in experience.

Topmum66 · 11/03/2021 20:14

@MrsMackesy sorry what are you implying by ‘the type of discussion you want’. I asked a question, if you can’t/won’t answer that’s fine but there’s no need for that.

Itreallyistimetochangethings · 11/03/2021 20:14

I believe Meghan and Harry!

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 11/03/2021 20:19

You don’t have to be a frothing overt racist to make mistakes, assumptions, unwittingly perpetrate racist behaviour that will have made M feel racially isolated. ‘OK’ people can be guilty of racist behaviour. I have no doubt that I have, in my time. What we can do is listen, believe, reflect, trust and learn.
