I'll start by stating I couldn't give two shits about two people I don't know.

However, I am finding so much humour in the 'non racist' vitriol from people that don't know them, and who seemingly don't care, yet can't get them out of their mouths!

I can't wait for this Oprah interview (that I might not even bother to watch) because I'll find the obsessive thread after thread on this absolutely hilarious.

To start us who have had a lifetime of this shit off, I thought I'd add to the frothing with this gem!

Kelechi, Shola and Gina were so on point and so unapologetically Black!

I'm hoping we can congrats here for our own analysis later!

I don't think she lied about her identity as a mixed race woman and I did say I could be wrong about any of that anyway but she didn't exactly have an "I'm black and proud" (not that she is anyway, she's mixed) stance but instead enjoyed the 'white woman privilege' until it dried up. Then when it came to being 'the exotic mixed race/poc', she happily slid in too. Now she's the misunderstood black/poc woman. Don't blame her, that's the advantage of being a white-passing mixed race woman - you can fit in anywhere you like🤷🏽‍♀️

If anyone wants to cape for her, that's fine. Just saying not to complain about doing so when it's not forced on anybody. I think once black women, especially dsbw, stop talking for everyone but themselves, that would send the message they need people to hear - 'call us for us'.

@Orchidflower1

I’m truly sorry that both of them seem to have or have had MH issues. It’s genuinely sad for anyone to feel that low.

For me though, the overriding thing that has annoyed me about the pair of them is the holier than thou environmentalist speeches and campaigns and then jetting across the Atlantic and around Europe in private jets.

That kind of faux environment hypocrisy smarts and would p!ss me off whether someone is white, black or purple spots so I’d be interested to see if they address this in the interview.

To me it’s akin to campaign for animal rights and then having suckling pig and veal for supper.

Whats the point of this comment?

Can we stop adding whether someone is black, white or purple spots or whatever quite frankly offensive comment about colour to somehow prove you are colourblind or don't care about race, it's minimising, gaslighting and self serving. As a Black person this does more to make me wary you of you than the opposite because its another way of saying let's just ignore race.

Environmentalism isn't the topic, the interview is - you literally just threw it in there as a red herring to talk about your dislike of the couple just for the sake of it in an otherwise positive post. Whenever someone says I'm sorry X has happened but Z, it means Z s all you wanted to say. If you are really sorry about X just stop there or say Z with your chest and don't preface it with X to make yourself feel better or thinking it will make you look better.

Please go join one of those vitriolic posts about MM.

That always seemed like that was more Harry’s focus than Meghan’s to me and people blaming her for his views on it. Her focus has usually leaned more towards women’s rights imo.

I would be angry with yhe jetsetting too if they weren't being sent death threats. We should be able to see issues in context.

She has never been black and proud. Everything has been about balancing whiteness with blackness. But the reality is different when everyone including the racist know and they can apply the one drop blood rule. That's when the whiteness becomes irrelevant..

debbrianna · 08/03/2021 17:33

It's the same as I don't see colour.. people think they are being clever. I would say, if you ever saw somone looking purple, please call for medical help.

CruellaDePaella · 08/03/2021 17:42

I do think some people started hating Meghan when they realised she, not only has a black mum but a loc-styled/loc-wearing black mum. I think a lot changed from how she was seen and treated by some people, so you're right about the one drop blood rule @debbrianna

I love Doria though - she seems like such a graceful, no-nonsense, calm and fuss-free person. Love her locs too and the hate she got was so unnecessary but not surprising. She seems to be minding her own business and hopefully, she's still able to live her life the way she wants. She didn't ask for this.

Doria comes across amazing out of all of this.

I some times wonder what life would have been like if the white side was black. Just imagine! I am glad this time it remain in the "what if". We have been spared that part of the hatred.what meghan experienced and is still experiencing has been very linear. Her blackness without carrying the whole black family on her back.

@Orchidflower1 If we take your philosophy to it's logical conclusion, NO ONE could ever advocate being more careful with the environment lest someone be so petty as to nitpick them. If so, no one would ever advocate anything. They rarely fly on private jets, so they are hardly hypocritical. Why these days would anyone advocate for anything good, unless one is pure as the driven snow? I think your 'gotcha' mentality would make anyone afraid to do anything.

And many people advocated for animal rights before being a vegetarian let alone a vegan, was a 'thing'. You seem to have a 100% pure-or-not-at-all mentality. One does not need to be vegetarian to advocate animal rights. I think it is your '100% absolutes' (unachievable for ANYone on earth) mentality and thought process that is the problem, not Meghan and Harry.

Cokie3 · 08/03/2021 18:06

What does 'cape for her' mean?

Cokie3 · 08/03/2021 18:09

Yes, it is the immature and petty 'absolutist' attitude that does my head in. Some of these people are no able to see nuance or context, it is 100% absolutes or NOTHING AT ALL. Even though they've hardly even been on private jets! It's just a petty reason to attack them. There is a certain irrationality in the absolutist mindset. Even David Attenborough would be a 'hypocrite' in their eyes. It's all so very immature and odd.

Rege · 08/03/2021 18:13

Doesn't William bang on about the planet? has he not taken a flight since? In much the same vein when Meghan is criticised for wearing an expensive dress, whereas when Kate wears an expensive dress/gown, it's called 'Kate WOW's in X gown.'

Today instead questions about Kate making Meghan cry and what happened, some of the headlines say, 'Kate maintains a 'dignified' silence in the wake of the interview'Hmm.
If I were Kate, I'd maintain a dignified silence as well, after all she kept silent all the while Meghan was being vilified for bullying her. What could she possibly have to say now?

Any chance of people complaining to Ofcom about Piers Morgan this morning spewing his usual hate? This morning he said she was lying about feeling suicidal. This is disgusting and dangerous for people who may be feeling suicidal and haven't told anyone. It's a super-quick form.

Anyone else seen this vocal gymnastics on Loose Women?

and the Mirro headline that followed

At this point it is evident the UK has no care for resolving racism. What do they stand to benefit? The whole thing is a mess.

Also those that claim to not realise that Meghan has a Black mother. It's neither here nor there. The royals knew and the UK press that were then racist to her knew! Whether she is darker skinned or not, the Royals (clearly from the racist comments/concerns) and the media (Straight Outta Comptom) cannot stand her proximity to blackness. Whoever made the comment earlier about had she had two black parents she wouldnt have got her foot in the door, is right. I personally believe that the Royal family as an institution are racist and Harry himself has probably had to do A LOT (!) of unlearning. I reckon he had no clue about racism until he had no choice through Meghan to wake up to it.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 08/03/2021 18:24

@Orchidflower1

That’s a really unpleasant comment. *@OhShutIt* asked for tea/ comments about the interview. I wondered if this was going to be included.

And before you get your knickers in a twist @Benelovencd I’m not gaslighting I’m responding to a post that @OhShutIt created asking for people’s general comments. I haven’t seen the full interview- only snippets so I was curious whether something was mentioned.

I’m not black, I’m not white I’m me. I’m orchid- a flower that blooms despite the difficult surroundings.

Isn't this board meant to be a space where black people can talk without having to defend ourselves from white people? I've come here to get away from all the Meghan hate. It's absolutely toxic and is depressing me.

Some people on here should watch BBC Six O’ Clock News , Monday 8 March. Sarah Campbell gives the facts about some of the claims made by Meghan.

itsgettingwierd · 08/03/2021 18:29

Evening all.

Before I'll add my comment for interests of transparency I'm a white woman about Meghans age.

I won't begin to claim I understand racism or can even empathise.

But I'd like to add having watched a middle class white man in a place of privilege financially (piers Morgan) dismiss racism based on others experiences of discussing skin colour or tone etc I can see why the situation isn't solved.

The RF is our oldest institution in the U.K. and if theirs racism within it (however unintentional it may have been) it's very clear by refusing to address it woe can never move in from institutionalised racism.

I wish I had some answer but I don't - but I am going to educate myself even further so I can make sure I do and say the right thing and can guide others in the future.

There just isn't a place for it in 2021 Britain

HmmmmmmInteresting · 08/03/2021 18:30

What concerns me is the number of white women who have mixed children in that thread justifying it as innocent and saying context is important. Those poor kids.

They're trolls. On every MM thread the biggest haters tend to claim to be black, mixed race or married to a man from Ghana 🤔

It's actually frightening. Why are they so threatened by MM that they post thread after thread and lie about being black/mixed race/ whatever?. Lots of racist posts were deleted on a particular one I was on yesterday.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 08/03/2021 18:31

This thread is going to get highjacked now, isn't it?

HmmmmmmInteresting · 08/03/2021 18:36

@debbrianna

The tea was brewed in England but served ten fold in America.

I saw this quote and loved how it covered all basis in a few words.

"Colourism is what allowed Meghan to marry into the Royal Family and anti-black racism is what forced her out of it. That’s the nuance you’re looking for."

Fab quote
