Yay, new thread!

I'm 12 weeks and I've put on 1 kg (2.5 pounds) since the beginning of pregnancy and got gold off by my French gynecologist yesterday for putting on too much weight

Tee2072 · 12/11/2008 07:43

Thanks for starting the new thread Ineed!!

Look at all those June babies! Go us!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 12/11/2008 07:54

I've put on 5 pounds since I got pregnant! Your gynaecologist would have my guts for garters!

Jools, I just wanted to say how sorry I am. It sounds like you had a really scary time yesterday, I hope that the physical recovery doesn't take too long. hen I've had losses it always takes a while for it to hit me, please be kind to yourself.

Lets just say that I've put on more than 5lbs (continuous eating to keep sickness at bay)! I have my 12 week scan in a week, am very, very, very nervous. I feel far less pregnant than I usually do at this point (no little bump, no ligament pain) etc. It is very hard not to be sure that I've had a mmc

flynn1984 · 12/11/2008 08:55

Morning all

Love the new thread title
I've already put on around 5lbs since I found out I'm pg!!

ermintrude13 · 12/11/2008 09:19

Morning all. Never added myself to the thread so voila, hope I've done it right.

I've lost a couple of pounds. Nowhere near as much as I should have done given the amount I'm puking, but still, it's a very small silver lining in a fairly massive cloud .

Myneaux · 12/11/2008 09:40

Jools....so sorry to hear your news I hope all goes well for you in the future and you get lots of support to help you through.

Has anyone had their 12 week dating scan yet?....I have mine tomorrow (although not officially 12 weeks until next week). Can anyone tell me what you actually see?

Does it definately look like a baby or more like a blob....dont want to get too excited to then find that its just a fuzzy black and white blur on the screen.

Also can they tell if anything is wrong with the baby?....They dont do nuchal fold screening on the NHS and I have to go private for that but do they look for other things?

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 12/11/2008 09:44

I'm 11 weeks Friday and I haven't heard when my scan is yet.

I can say from last time that you really can see a little person on the screen, my DS even waved at the camera and sucked his thumb. Very cute. Sometimes the photos are a bit crappy tho I think it depends on the position of your bean at the time.

We have NF test on NHS here, so not sure what you'll be told... I just spent my time staring at the screen not being able to equate what I was seeing on hte screen with what was in my tummy.....

Morning all!

Don't know about fattening up for christmas, I think I'm fattening up for november! I now only have 1 pair of very elasticated jogging bottoms I can still get into Dh is finding it most amusing Looking forward to my scan next week, we're going to have to take dd3 with us, so here's hoping she's going to be on her best behaviour, she's usually pretty good

It's so lovely to see some sun again, I got drenched on monday doing the school run!

bigcar · 12/11/2008 10:06

Myneaux, it depends on a few things, including how good their scanner is. You will definitely see a baby at 11 weeks and a heartbeat. My scan with dd3 wasn't as clear as the previous ones due to now being a rather lardy lass but you could still see quite a lot, I think she was doing somersaults at the 12 weeks scan, so they had to wait for her to calm down a bit to do their checks. If you're not having the nf scan they will measure the baby, usually crown to rump length (head to bum), head circumference, leg length to check your dates, and then a general anatomy check to make sure everything is where it is supposed to be. And then hopefully you get some photos to show off with later

daisy5 · 12/11/2008 10:15

jools - I am so so sorry to hear your news. Back in June I found out at 11+2 weeks that my little one had died. It is just so very sad....and it's hard with hormones raging and all afterwards. Be very very kind to yourself and remember there are lots of us who are now pregnant and having good pregnancies as you will too. There are some great people on the Miscarriage site if you want to have a good vent. Lots of love daisy

myneaux - in the nuchal test they do examine the face and body to look for irregularities - they are looking for chromosomal abnormalities which could be Downs or Edwards or other Trisomy's. You may have a blood test which picks up certain levels of two chemicals/hormones. You could look at the Fetal Medicine Centre/Foundation website for some idea of what is done. Remember, there is a teeny tiny miniscule chance that there will be anything wrong. I am 41 so my odds are a little bit higher but still if you are healthy, have taken folic acid along the way, etc etc then it's still far far (far, far) more likely that all will be just fine and dandy.

daisy5 · 12/11/2008 10:19

magnummum - gosh - must be a bit of a surprise at first...but....double the joy . Congratulations.

strawberrysam - pleased to hear you had a great scan. It's such a relief - did you get a good nights sleep?

flynn1984 · 12/11/2008 10:26

I've asked this question before but cannot remember the recommendations....

My MS is back really bad this time, was off work yesterday with it and now today (I went to work and wish I didn't) I cannot keep anything down, not even water. I cannot bring myself to eat anything and I have had nothing all morning since I got up at 7.
Can anyone recommend anything to combat really severe morning sickness as I do not know how much longer I can suffer like this So happy I'm pg but cannot stand the sickness

Tee2072 · 12/11/2008 10:27

I forgot to say earlier that I actually haven't gained any weight. I lost 2 lbs the first two weeks and now I am holding steady. That might be because I'm on a very controlled diet due to my diabetes!

I was saying to my husband last night how disappointing it was that this is probably the one time in my life I can get away with eating junk food and I actually can't! I could kill for a big chocolate bar and a bag of crisps!

LittleSarah · 12/11/2008 10:31

Cote - I am 10+4 and have put on about 2Ibs I think and I thought that wasn't bad!

daisy5 · 12/11/2008 10:49

flynn - have you been to your midwife/gp? If you can't keep anything down they probably need to know as may be able to give you something. It does sound really bad. How far along are you?

flynn1984 · 12/11/2008 10:54

Hiya daisy
I'm 8+6 today, not seen midwife or gp, might try and call gp practice. my MIL is a nurse and said there is nothing I can take to help me
I would like 1 day where I dont feel sick or being sick I'm soooo jealous of people who have not suffered MS before

daisy5 · 12/11/2008 11:30

I had chronic headaches through my last pregnancy and although it isn't the same I really sympathise as it's just so hard to achieve anything and days could really drag. This time I am suffering nausea - mostly in the morning, and have found that eating in the middle of the night or at least 11pm/12pm means I wake up feeling good, so nice to have found something that works for me.

I'm at 10+4 and have just started to notice getting a bit more slightly but you never know how it will be.

Bless you, poor sausage

MrsMcJnr · 12/11/2008 11:52

Oh Jools I am so very very sorry I have been where you are and I know nothing can make you feel better. Sending huge hugs and hoping your body has done its best and that that is the end without any intervention. If it helps, I got pg with DS exactly 10 weeks after my MC which was at 13 weeks. Be very kind to yourself, both body and soul have been through the mill xxxx

MrsMcJnr · 12/11/2008 11:52

Wow Magnummum many, many congrats on twins!! one of my friends has a 2 yr old and 4 month old twins and she is incredible! Sorry about your scary weekend though

Ah Tee glad you had a lovely scan hon!

Flynn ? hope you are feeling better hon. I couldn?t sleep for gagging last night

Ah Stawberrysam great news hon.

Ineedmore ? hope the head gets better soon.

Cote ? they are the same here in Spain about weight! I put on 21 pounds last pg and I know that I?m not too massive yet this time (though scales are broken) no doubt they?ll weigh me at my appointment next week though I?d lost 6 pounds when they last weighed me but then again, I needed to!

Joyfuleyes ? hang in there hon, they say all pgs are different (as this one is proving to me!)

Myneaux ? all the best for tomorrow. We called DS ?skeletor? after the dating scan

Hello Daisy and Bigcar

ermintrude13 · 12/11/2008 12:23

Flynn, the MS is appalling, and knowing there's nothing you can do makes it all the worse. I've tried all the usual remedies and nothing takes away the feeling that I'm going to throw up very soon, expect the act of eating something but 30 secs after swallowing I feel sick again. Weirdly, the morning is the best time for me; it gets worse through the day and by mid-aft I can barely sort myself out to get the kids from school - have to try to vomit beforehand to save tricky social situations...

Then after tea, around 8-9pm, I am violently sick so there's nothing left in my stomach, and after that I can't eat anything.

I had the sickness with my dd but never felt so nauseous. Whereas with ds I felt sick for the first 20 weeks but rarely threw up. Now it's the worst of both worlds. I really hope your symptoms (and mine!) recede and you start feeling better soon, it's hard not to feel helpless and upset about it when you're so poorly. We haven't told anyone yet, which makes it even trickier. If it's some small consolation, I remember there being some improvement around the time my bump started showing, so am hoping the same will happen again.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 12/11/2008 12:28

Flynn I had chronic MS with my last pregnancy, and I found that the only thing that helped was constantly eating bland carbs (Italian bread sticks, plain hula hoops) and NOT letting myself get hungry. It does go eventually (unless you're that teeny-tiny percentage who has it all the way through). It doesn't feel that way though. The second trimester is lovely compared to the first and third, and you feel like a new woman (and you have a bump to show for it!).

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 12/11/2008 12:39

Doctors are terrible here with pregnant women re weight. They expect you to reach term with about +7 kgs (15.5 pounds) and I put on 17 kg (38 pounds) with DD. I quit smoking cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant, so that may be why I was eating like a mad woman

This time I am being careful - no sitting down with a box of chocolate, no coke, no deserts. We will see.

chocciedooby · 12/11/2008 12:45

I have put on 3lbs already and am only 8 +6! I have been feeling so nauseaous all day long for a few weeks now and the only thing that helps is as Ineedmorechocolatenow says, carbs!!!
It's an awful predicament because any extra non-nutritious foods consumed in the 1st trimester are just going to sit on the hips and thighs and won't come off until after delivery and lots of exercise. But I have to eat nearly all day long to get through the day.

BobsWendy · 12/11/2008 12:46

o crap are they really strict on weight here? They never weigh you in Ireland, where I had my last two.I put on 3 stone in each of my pregnancies, but didn't stress, and it all came off soon enough. I'm sure I'm going to put on something similar this time, I've put on about 4/5 lbs already.O maaaaaaaaan, I didn't think they'd care!
