Morning all

strawberrysam that explaination could be the cause of bleeding, here's hoping it is and it's nothing more serious.

bobswendy here's hoping your feeling better

tee totally agree about the maternity leave idea it would be great to be off for that long!

1 more day to my scan, should be around 9+5 so excited about what i'll see this time, 2 weeks ago it was just a blob with a heartbeat
The insomnia is really starting to get me down last night (or should I say this morning)I managed to get 40 mins sleep how am i supposed to manage to get thro a days work with that little sleep...at least ms is gone today!

Sorry for the 'all about me' post just want to moan...hope everyone else is well this morning

loooouise · 18/11/2008 12:10

Hello ladies and thank you Little Sarah, Tee, Lynn, Flynn and Daisy for your kind welcomes and congratulations.

It is indeed my first baby, but - ahem - the father and I are not together. We're old friends who got carried away one night. So, I've no idea how on earth things are going to work out, especially as he lives abroad.

Now that I've got over the shock ,I'm delighted though, and determined to do the very best. My parents, brothers and friends are being fantastic, so I have got plenty of support. The worst thing is not having anyone to cook dinner for you or rub your back or drive to the all-night garage to fetch ginger beer !

Flynn - I'm really sorry to hear abotu the insomnia - i'm a longtime sufferer, although my last few nights have been ok. But I'll probably have another bout soon if you need a 4am cyber chat! Good luck with the scan today btw, looking forward to hearing about it.

Little Sarah - so glad you've got a bump too, I certainly didn't expect to have one at 10 +2 and have packed away my jeans until 2015 or whenever they fit again!

ermintrude13 · 18/11/2008 12:35

Oooh, Loooouise, I bet the father is in a state of shock! Or do you think he's quite pleased too? If he's someone who's been in your life for ages, chances are he'll continue to be in it, however the two of you want to deal with it. I think you've got a great attitude and sounds like there's a good support network there to help you out. Take any favours offered!

I don't have a bump at 9+4 but then, as my ds pointed out appreciatively, my tummy is already 'flubbery like a pillow' - so I probably wouldn't notice.

Flynn - good luck with scan tomorrow! and LittleSarah - using dopplers too early is like doing pg tests too early - hugely tempting but just adds to the worry. Lock it away for now!

June2009 · 18/11/2008 12:37

Hiya!

I'm really glad i found this thread!
New to mumsnet, I'm 11+2, due in June too and the first scan is in 2 weeks time.

I am also worried about putting on too much weight as I'm one of those who's pretty much always struggled with it. I usually train at the gym and that keeps me at a stable weight but I have been feeling so tired and nauseous I haven't been going in at all

Not sure wether I need to add my name anywhere for this list? I can just find it from the site I think.
Oh and is there a list of all the abbreviations somewhere??

June2009 · 18/11/2008 12:40

Just found the list of acronyms ;)

Tee2072 · 18/11/2008 12:44

So I'm home from work, feeling urggghy, and just had the weirdest dream. I was meeting with the MW who gave me a big lecture because I hadn't bought anything for the baby yet. And I said to her "But I'm only 8 weeks pregnant!" And she was all, so what? You need to be prepared!

It was very weird! And I guess I am feeling completely unprepared to be a mom? But I don't feel that way!

Okay, enough of that!

Welcome June!! Congratulations, and yup, you can just add your name to the list!

ermintrude13 · 18/11/2008 13:35

Welcome to June!

Tee, you're just getting in the mood for many, many anxious maternal dreams, and even nightmares. A whole new world of potential disaster opens up when you're pregnant, from feelings of utter inadequacy to full-on kidnapping fantasies, and the chasm gapes even wider once the babe is actually out in the world. In June you will meet the person who will be more important to you than anything you've ever imagined, and it's scary stuff. I have the most appalling dreams about every tragic, ridiculous situation that could ever come about, but have got a handle on it now, and fight against the temptation to tie my kids to my apron strings and never let them out. So don't worry about the mad dreams, and try not to let them stay with you...

loooouise · 18/11/2008 13:35

Ermitude - The father is not pleased, says that (at the age of 35) he is "not ready to be a father yet" although he "will not "shirk his responsibilities". I haven't heard from him since he texted 10 days ago to check the due date. I think he is probably still in shock, so I'm going to let him digest for a bit. Life's never bloody straightforward, is it?

June - I haven't dared ride my beloved bike since I did the test, and feel horribly flabby as a consequence. Also paranoid about swimming/running as I had a LEETZ procedure on my cervix in January and have read horror stories about incompetant cervixes. I guess i'm just gonnna be a bit plump for a while.

Tee - if you want a wierd dream contest, check this out. in the throes of my worst nausea in week 7, I dream my doctor prescribed me HUMAN EYEBALLS for morning sickness, i had to eat them FRIED and they were really chewy, disgusting. i rememeber thinking: please wake up, if I vomit in my sleep i might choke and die. It was AWFUL.

LittleSarah · 18/11/2008 13:48

looouise - UGH, that sounds horrendous! I was having loads of weird vivid dreams but recently I just can't remember any of them.

Re your baby's dad. My ex and I broke up when I was pregnant last time so I was in a similar situation in a way. I actually had a great time, after getting rid of the hurt, as I could do whatever I liked and relax. Watching girly films, reading, etc. My ex also was 'not ready', he was 25 so youngish but very settled, well-off. Not some waster with no prospects basically! What he meant was that it didn't fit with his plans, and he always likes to do things by the book. I think back now and I definitely think I'm well rid. He is a good guy but not the right one for me IYKWIM.
Anyway, he went off and we didn't speak for months and then three weeks before birth he got in touch, wanting to be part of dd's life. It's worked out very well, he now has her two nights a week and every other weekend, is a good dad and we are friendly.

Phew, I thought I'd give you that so you know things can be just fine even if you're not with the father. Although you sound very confident of that anyway, which is great!

And if your friend does decide to be an arse then you and your wee one will be fine too!

ermintrude - you're soooo right about the doppler!

WELCOME to June, you must be due around the same time as me? I'm 11+3, due 6th June.

loooouise · 18/11/2008 13:54

Little Sarah I can't thank you enough! I'm very good at sounding confident and breezy and pretending to be Madonna with baby Lourdes, but obviously in my heart I'm sad and frightened sometimes. So you have cheered me up immensely...I have been feeling like the only single pregnant woman in the world, which is of course, boll*cks. Really, you've given me great hope and I'm very grateful.

leaky · 18/11/2008 14:02

Hi everyone,
Found you all on this new thread...I haven't been on for weeks due to tiredness but today I actually feel normal again! My 2yr old is still expecting me to join him on the sofa now to watch Cbeebies thou so I'll have to be quick.
I'm almost 12wks & have my scan next Tuesday so really excited about that. Also excited as we went out on the weekend & bought a new car, bigger so we can get the 3rd child in,plus extra's.It's a Vauxhall Zafira, big car so we've had to remortgage too!! Ooh,too much excitement

daisy5 · 18/11/2008 14:13

That would be In The Night Garden leaky?? Mine is ecstatic with joy that I just turned it on

loouise - I was really moved by your post. You will be a fabulous mum It may be scary at times, but there is also excitement. It sounds like friends and family and being really supportive which is so great. I love my daughter so much I cannot imagine life without her - and I had an action packed life before she came along. I wish I had started earlier as might have gone for the big family of 3 or 4. But if I only had her, I would be still be completely content [almost in tears emoticon].

June2009 · 18/11/2008 14:31

Little Sarah Doctor and midwife said I'm due June 7th. (OMG!! Still can't quite beleive it .

Would that make me 11+4? I'm useless at counting the weeks, I usually just use various sites on the net and agree with whatever is more convenient for me ;)

I've put the birdsong radio on to calm me down, feeling stressed and irritable today.

chocciedooby · 18/11/2008 14:38

Welcome Loooouise. You are a very brave girl and I admire you and anyone else that has to go it alone. I have never been in that situation before but can confirm that once you have your baby in your arms you will feel love like never before and will know that it has all been so worthwhile.
I am 9+5 and the nausea seems to be getting easier. (dare I say it for fear that it will come back full blown again).
I am pretty much living in tracksuit bottoms now and have also been wearing maternity jeans. I couldn't stand the tightness around my stomach any longer! I cannot stop eating which is no surprise as I was exactly the same the last 2 times. I am craving tomatoes, oranges, salad cream, and anything with a sharp fruity taste. Also getting addicted to sherbet. What is everyone else craving?

Sorry don't know how that posted twice.
Welcome and congratulations June2009

helpivegottogivebirth · 18/11/2008 14:49

hello and congratulations to everyone new. its beginning to get exciting - had my first batch of blood tests today and got a scan on Friday. still don't know how pregnant i am so i'll finally be able to add myself properly to the list with a due date.

Cravings so far have been coco pops - at two in the morning...

not really put on any weight and still in usual clothes - dh says my boobs are enormous by normal standards though.

Nausea and sickness still comes and goes - mainly in the evening for me. and bad spots but apart from that i'm enjoying myself.

June2009 · 18/11/2008 15:00

Cravings:

I seem to only want to eat chicken and since Sunday I'd been wanting to put banana with it. I finally had a chicken/banana sandwich yesterday evening and it was really nice .
It's not that unusal, they cook it together in the Caribeean.

Symptoms...
Well appart from the tiredness and MS I came out with loads of little red freckles all over my body: "spider/cherry angiomas" which both doctor and midwife said they hoped would clear/not get worse.
Acne & spots My pill was regulating that but I was fine when I came off the pill so I'm disappointed that it's coming up again now. (I'm too old for Acne!!!)

flynn1984 · 18/11/2008 15:19

As for cravings, not really had any except the urge to eat M&S Honey Roast Ham flavoured crisps all the time, that and pasta (can't get enough of pasta).

My symptoms are kind of dying down no more ms or not as bad as it has been(touch wood) Still got terrible acne and (.)(.) have got massively bigger but not as tender. The biggest problem I have like I've mentioned previously is my insomnia which I have been told is actually a symptom as it is a way your body gets ready for the sleepless nights you'll have when baby is born (or so my doc says)

Tee2072 · 18/11/2008 15:21

My cravings are salt salt and more salt! The craving pickles thing with me is totally true! And Kalamata olives, OMG SO GOOD!

In fact, I think I'll have some right now...

ermintrude13 · 18/11/2008 15:56

Most of my decisions about what to eat are based on what might taste ok on the way up. So far toffee popcorn is the most pleasant second time around - not an ideal basis for a healthy diet, really...

helpivegottogivebirth · 18/11/2008 16:06

Poor Ermintrude - i really feel for you. th MS coms so unexpectedly for me that i take risks and thn every so often really regret it when i'm haning over the big white telephone.

Is there an old wives tale that says your having a boy if you get spots and a girl if you don't?

And i read somewhere about sugar or spice cravings also determining what sex you end up having.

I really don't want to know the sex of my baby through scanning technology, but i love guessing through my symptoms!

Anyone who has children before, did you end up having the a boy or a girl according to your cravings?

bigcar · 18/11/2008 16:07

Lol tee, my dd2's middle name is Olivia due to the amount of olives I consumed whilst pregnant it's carried on with each subsequent pregnancy too! Maybe I'll call this one gherkin

Helpive and daisy, that's 3 of us now then for friday scans!

Thanks MrsMcJnr hope you're not too nervous about your scan.

ermintrude13 · 18/11/2008 16:10

Thank you for your sympathy helpto... I've heard so many old wives' tales about the sex of babies that I've forgotten them. I was told that copious vomiting (as per now, and my first preg) meant it was a boy. I had a girl. And I was 'carrying high' which also meant a boy - only it didn't. Didn't have many cravings except for later on in both pregs (one girl, one boy), when the m/s had subsided and I generally craved anything creamy, sugary, greasy and generally unhealthy which probably should have meant I was going to give birth to a doughnut....

CoteDAzur · 18/11/2008 17:12

Did someone say gherkins and olives?

I was heavily into both when pregnant with DD. In fact, I was drinking the juice out of the gherkin pickles jar. DH once caught me doing drinking pickle juice in front of the fridge and the look of disgust on his face chills me to this day. He didn't kiss me for a very long time.

This time, I have thankfully avoided obsessing with gherkins. Still loving olives, though.

My 3-month scan is next Monday and we will find out the sex of the baby. Old wives tale goes: Crave sour >> have girl, crave sweet >> have boy. It worked the first time, we'll see for this little bump.
