so the doppler is def worth it then?

daisy5 · 17/11/2008 10:44

Morning fellow bumps

Another week along, another week closer

I went to a black tie event on Saturday and spent the whole time holding my tummy in (it's huge) as I just didn't want to face all those 'Congratulation' when I still feel I am in the danger zone (two mc's don't make me feel too confident). It was dark, and thankfully I got away with it.

While doing the dishes it occurred to me that it's like mountain climbing but starting at the top. First you encounter the steep nasty bit with low oxygen and dangers all around. Then as you get closer to the bottom there is hope and sunshine and more gentle slopes. That's how it feels to me at the moment anyway.

Another ballgown event in three weeks (it's that time of year isn't it) and this at 14 weeks (hopefully) may as well allow myself to breathe normally and wear something that screams 'BABY COMING'. Just scanning the internet and a struggle to find something a teency weency bit 'sexy'. Anyway, at least it all takes my mind off worrying about Version 2.1.

Bloods on Wednesday, nuchal scan on Friday so a big week ahead. Anyone else have their 12 week scan this week?

mrsmcjnr - I am facing a £175 bill for nuchal and bloods - I think the bloods alone are £30 or something. 200 euros for just the bloods is eyewateringly expensive . I think you are right - if all the physical features look good and the nuchal fold is normal, then that is definitely the most important thing.

tee so pleased to hear you had good news after your dh's scare. How stressful for you both!

nemo I didn't know that doppler's could have LCD screens - I had a quick look a few weeks ago and some brands had really poor ratings - with people struggling to find hearbeats. But then other dopplers were over £100 which is kinda pricey. Which brand is yours? I do like the idea of the peace of mind for those panicky moments.

flynn - you are being lovingly looked after by your hospital - that must give you a lovely peace of mind.

loooise - welcome to the wickedly wonderful but sometimes a teency bit wobbly June 09'ers thread.

ineedmorechocolate - lucky you to get those clothes. I really bought some rubbish maternity clothes last time and hate even looking at time. I think I am going to scour ebay this time!

littlesarah - I'm a big fan of John Lewis's picture frames. Birthdays, christmas's, anniversaries, engagements, baby presents - perfect for all occasions, don't break the bank and really appreciated - can never have too many photos around of our gorgeous dc's

Gosh that's a long one . See ya.

ermintrude13 · 17/11/2008 11:54

Morning all

Hope your scan goes well this Fri, Daisy. Still waiting for a date for mine but I'm only 9+3 so it won't be for a while. Still, I'm relieved that black tie events never feature on my social calendar; that would be too stressful and I know that my one suitable dress is extremely unforgiving around the tum!

I think a doppler might make me worry more if for whatever reason I couldn't find the heartbeat (midwives don't always find it easily early one; I think my digestive system must be extremely noisy!). But it is reassuring when the bean is big enough for you to feel it kick, that's what I'm looking forward to. That and an end to throwing up, if there will ever be an end.

Got to get some work done. Snore.

bigcar · 17/11/2008 12:40

Afternoon

daisy, I have my scan this friday too I'm still finding it hard that some of you are having to fork out so much for the bloods and nuchal scan, they're both offered as standard here, I had my bloods done a couple of weeks ago.

If you think it's hard to get reasonable maternity wear now, it really is soooooo much better than it used to be. When I had my eldest (feels like a lifetime ago now!) all you could get were tent dresses, very fetching

Ermintrude, it's the first kicks I'm looking forward to too.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 17/11/2008 13:33

Hello all... just got back from town Christmas shopping.

Well, I'm in maternity clothes.... it's official. I must admit it makes my 'bump' look more like a real bump and it's so much more comfortable.

I haven't heard about my scan yet, I'm 12 weeks on Friday so I guess it won't be long til I hear. I have had my referral for the physio tho, they phoned today which is really quickly. I'm already getting the SPD pains (which I didn't get until I was about 25 weeks last time, and then they got more and more severe until I was bed-bound at about 34 weeks). I'm so determined not to be like that this pregnancy (not that you get much choice) but I shall be wearing my belt early doors this pregnancy...

Hope all your scans go well this week. Can't wait for mine...

LittleSarah · 17/11/2008 13:50

Ineed - Can you phone and ask about your scan? I'd have thought you'd have heard by now.

I have an angelsounds doppler (basically a cheap one, no screen) but I haen't used it this time yet. Supposed to work from 12 weeks but I'll be nervous about using it even then as I may not be able to find it, and it could be just the baby's position and I'll get paranoid again.

MrsMcJnr - Poor you with horrible headaches and feeling so knackered. I know what you mean about feeling like you can't be bothered. I've spent all morning feeling dreadful about not doing uni work. I am going to try and spot that trend this afternoon. (I did get married recently - Sept.)

Daisy5 - You're right about it being mountain climbing in reverse, and just as tiring .

louise - Welcome and congrats!

llynnn - Good luck with your scan!

In fact, good luck to all those with scans this week.

flynn1984 · 17/11/2008 14:01

Quick question everyone...

anyone experiencing problems with sleep, in other words anyone experiencing no sleep at all then extreme tiredness during the day.
For the past 2 weeks I've had very restless sleeps at nighttime, basically only getting an hour a night but then during the day at work I'm so tired I could fall asleep at my desk. If anyone has any tips on combating this please let me know

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 17/11/2008 14:13

Yup Flynn1984... sleep is all over the place and it's a nightmare. I'm a seasoned insomniac tho so I'm completely used to it. There's a thread for insomniacs going on here at the moment, you could search under topics I've posted on. There are some fab ideas on there (some with essential oils that won't be suitable for pregnancy) but loads of others. I think the threads called 'INSOMNIACS I need your help' or something like that....

flynn1984 · 17/11/2008 14:16

thanks Ineed will check this out

Tee2072 · 17/11/2008 14:16

flynn that is totally me. And I have no clue how to make it better. Maybe someone else knows?

flynn1984 · 17/11/2008 14:21

thing is usually I would have a large coffee to keep me going through the afternoon, but now cos I'm cutting out caffine I can't have one maybe a large coffee would perk me up a bit

daisy5 · 17/11/2008 14:22

flynn and tee - that sounds rough - you must be shattered. It's a weird time sleepwise. Wanting to pee wakes me, hunger wakes me, snoring wakes me, and superactive dreams wake me, and then my mind starts churning over the 'what if's'...and now the bump is big enough and boobs tender enough for me to not always get comfortable. I did better when I was going to sleep at the same time each night, but I've been all over the place lately.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 17/11/2008 14:31

Mmmm, I have to avoid coffee in afternoon if I want to have a chance of sleeping that night. It might be this and being 'overtired' that are both affecting your sleep.

I have to basically go to bed an hour before I want to sleep and get myself in the right frame of mind. I have a bath, or lay in bed reading, or listen to calming music. I wear an eye mask with lavender seeds in it (no idea whether lavender is fine for baby, will look it up on the web) and this lets me relax as well. The thread is full of great ideas, different things work for different people. There is a digital radio station called 'birdsong' which is recordings of birds singing (sounds a bit wanky, but worth a go) I put this on an hour 'sleep' function, and if I'm still awake when it turns off then I get up and make myself a milky drink and read for a bit, then I do it all over again.

I'll find the link for the thread... here it is

Hope this helps. I know how you feel, it is really crap.

OP posts:
ermintrude13 · 17/11/2008 14:57

Now if there's one thing I can do it's sleep. I could do it for England. I can count on one hand the number of nights it's taken me more than half an hour to drop off, even if I've got big emotional churning going on, and usually it's within minutes of head touching pillow. So despite the all-day M/S and the horrible vomiting, I know that eventually I'll be able to get 7 hours kip in and not feel too bad in the morning. Sorry for you insomniacs; it must be really horrible not being able to sleep soundly, and has made me feel a bit less sorry for my pukey sicky self! Hope you find some good tips on the other thread.

llynnnn · 17/11/2008 18:50

hi all
Had my scan this morning and it went really well!! as soon as they started the scan I could see the little arms and legs moving around and the heart beating beautifully!! It was fab!! they have said i'm 11+6 now, so due date is 2nd June!
So excited now, it all finally seems real and cant wait to tell the world tomorrow!

spoke to the consultant afterwards who is very supportive about me wanting a vbac so thats made me feel better. Better chance of it if i dont have to be induced tho, so hope this little one is on time!!

sorry to hear about the issues sleeping, as long as my dd allows it i sleep like a log all night! up with the lark tho (she doesnt understand lie-ins yet (unfortunatley!)

Hey ladies

Tee ? that?s great news what a relief! Hope you both had a relaxing day today.

Welcome and congrats Looouise! tell us more about you, is this your first baby?

Llynnnn ? so glad it went well at the scan ? fabulous! good news about the vbac too! my DS was 9 days late and I was so scared that I?d be induced, I tried EVERYTHING to get him to appear! Not sure what worked in the end!

Flynn ? all the best for Weds sorry to hear about the insomnia

Nemo ? ah! Lovely to have that reassurance with the Doppler you must be an expert managing to tune in so early

Hey Daisy ? like your mountain climbing analogy I got a gorgeous Isabella Oliver dress when pg with DS, I fell in love with it on her site and then checked eBay and low and behold, the colour I wanted and the size just waiting for me at ¼ of the original price! I felt fabulous in it too. Good luck for your scan. Thanks for your thoughts on my testing plan

Hello Ermintrude

Bigcar ? all the best for Friday

Ineedmore ? poor you with the SPD, hope you manage to fight it with physio this time round.

Littlesarah ? you didn?t waste much time! It took me 8 months to get pg after I got married and it felt like an AGE!

Strawberrysam ? poor you, I?m not surprised those bleeds are scaring you even if they are nothing serious and if you need reassurance make sure you keep in touch with the hospital or MW, its proven that positive thinking really helps. Keep talking to us! I was in mat clothes at 16 weeks my first pregnancy (11 this time )

BobsWendy · 17/11/2008 21:45

hi ladies

Just popping in to say hi. DS1 and I had vomitting bug all weekend, and I wasn't able to keep anything down. I'm feeling dreadful and also really blue ... feel so guilty for my 2 boys too as they're not getting proper mommy love and attention at the moment ( or home cooked meals - eek ) - really hope this all disappears at the magical 12 weeks. So sorry for me me me post. Hope all well xx

daisy5 · 17/11/2008 23:41

strawberysam - interesting and maybe...did the mw's mention to you that the blood-flushed womb lining sometimes spills out of the vagina slightly into the vaginal passage (please excuse me if tmi) and it is this exposed 'soft tissue' that can be prone to light bleeding. She said that post coital bleeding is usually down to this. I wonder if it is this tissue that is bleeding when you are putting pressure on?
As I'm sure you know there are people who bleed often during pregnancies and all turns out fine. One woman said she had bled throughout three pregnancies with no resulting problems. It must be so stressful. Thinking of you.

Hello ScanBuddyBigCar - just four more sleeps! Well, that is if I get to sleep - heading back up now for another attempt! I think I will be living on this thread for the next few days!!

daisy5 · 17/11/2008 23:46

StrawSam - mrsmcjnr is so right - do keep in touch with the hospital and insist on a scan if you really want one. They have to take bleeding seriously.

mrsmcjnr - very encouraged to hear about your lucky Isabella find. Now if you could send me some of your lucky buying vibes, I shall keep a beady eye on ebay for the next week or two - some off those dresses are truly loverly.

Tee2072 · 18/11/2008 06:40

Good morning all.

Strawberrysam interesting theory, and I would bet it could be true. If it was me, I would call the MW to confirm. Either way I would stay in close contact with MW. Bleeding must be so scary!

I think I am going to petition the government for maternity leave to start as soon as you get a BFP and last until the kid is 2, at full pay, with a guarantee that your job will be there whenever you want to come back. Who is with me?

In other words, UG I don't want to go to work today!

LittleSarah · 18/11/2008 09:00

Well I tried my doppler last night with no luck. But then I'm not supposed to try until Saturday and even then I might not find it! I thought a couple of times I heard snatches but that may have been wishful thinking...
Anyway, I'm not letting that worry me, I knew there was only a small chance of hearing it now.

I put on a work dress this morning and my tummy looked so bump-ish in it. Very strange. Good and reassuring, but strange.

llynnn - Great news about your scan.

StrawberrySam - Sorry to hear about your bleeding, that must be so stressful. Definitely call MW if you're worried.

MrsMcJnr - Yes, twas a little fast, this one is a honeymoon baby!

Sorry about those lacking sleep, I'm more like ermintrude with sleep. Except in the last trimester when I do need to go to the toilet loads!

PS. Still getting ms, argh.
