Afternoon Ladies, I need some advice!!! I'm 6w pg today and aren't wanting to let work in on that little secret for at least another 6w. My prob is that it is a v.small office only 2 men 3 woman inc me. 1 woman is off at min a she had a ds last week, this means there is loads of baby talk about asking when its my turn etc, in the past I have always made out that I wasn't wanting kids (needed to, to get ahead at work) and usually just say that I am quite happy just being a auntie thank you very much! but now that I am pg I feel really uncomfy around all this kinda talk? I've tried changing the subject but it just keeps cropping up!!! Any ideas of the best way to handle this??

Hiya, I understand your predicament but basically ive had to lie! I dont want colleauges, friends or family to know just yet and just speak as though im not bothered either way right now. I will confess when the time is right but ive actually got used to it more now (im 7wks+4 days).

I have had to endure my parents giving me advice on how to conceive, they recommend the taking temperature all month method and my dad even nearly bought me a talking thermometer in Somerfields the other day! I had to tell him that things are a bit mroe sophisticated now and you can get ovulation predictor kits from Superdrug...which we already have. I missed out telling him that we didnt actually get round to using it as I was pregnant already!

I cant wait to tell them, but for now ill keep schtum until another couple of weeks when I see them next.

I seem to keep having conversations with people where they are asking me "are you planning on having any more" or even "when are you going to have more" and I am just saying "sometime in the future", which is true, although I still feel a bit bad.

At under 7 weeks I don't want to tell everyone but I'm starting to wonder if I'm giving off pregnancy signals, the amount of people who keep asking .

Thanks, we have only told parents so far, we want to wait for the 12w mark for everyone else. Luckly I haven't had m/s yet which I can imagine would be a bit of a give away!! lol
I wasn't happy when dh told my parents & his, as it was only exactly 4w since my af when we did the test and my af could usually be anywhere between 4.5w to 6w apart. As the days have worn on and since finding this site last week I have calmed down a lot. Not so apprehensive (sp?)

Hello all

Just wanted to share with you all my exciting news that I went for a scan this morning and saw baby and heartbeat for the first time. Feel like I can relax a bit now and maybe even think about telling my sister which I've been dying to do.

I'm sure that we do give off pregnancy signals. Everyone seemed to know that I was pregnant with my second and kept asking my job-share colleague if I was! She didn't know luckily and told them to ask me.

I'm finding it easy to tell no-one - I am confinced to the house with wretched sickness.

Fab news Piccalili - it is exciting to see the little bean isn't it? We saw ours on Saturday when dh did a sneaky scan on me. Also saw a good strong heartbeat and babe was measuring well for dates. Just can't wait till the nuchal scan on 28 Feb.
Hope you are still feeling ok. I am utterly exhausted. Actually crept into the disabled loo at work to have a quick 20mins nap at lunch. Not really getting much work done at all.....city law and early pregnancy don't mix!

Hello

My first message on MumsNet and I'm looking for advice. I found out last week that I'm pregnant (currently 6 weeks + 3 days). This is my first time round and I don't really know what to expect. I've been to see my doctor but he was very vague and basically said well done, gave me a pamphlet and said he'd write to the local hospital.

Can anyone tell me what I should expect next. Do I just sit tight until the hospital contact me ?

Sorry if this sounds stupid - but it's early days for me.

Yes, IME after you've seen your GP, you'll get a letter from your chosen hospital, inviting you for a 'booking in' appt with the midwife, and/or your first scan (12 weeks).

Where are you planning to have your baby? Would you like to be added to our Sept 05 list? I'm about to update it.

I too am utterly clueless and 6w's pg at the moment! When I went to the doc's I expected them to do all sorts, I was amazed that all they said was Congratulations and do you know when your due!! Apparently I will find out more with the Booking Appointment on the 17th.

Hello all, and congratulations to all those that have joined recently.

Had my booking-in appointment today so its all official and I'm in the system! 9 weeks tomorrow as well so its moving on. Hate having the blood tests but its all in a good cause! And as expected my blood pressure is very low

Have booked for a home birth, and as a low risk pregnancy means I can cut back on the number of appontments and people I see. I'll get a date through soon for the first scan (11 to 14 weeks), and then the 20 week one can be booked. Don't have to see midwife again for a couple of months.

Glad things are moving now, with very few symptoms (sorry!) it makes it feel more real.

Sallie, glad I'm not the only one feeling exhausted! I had to take the day off work yesterday as I was feeling so tired and sick. Regretting it today though as now I just have twice as much to do.

My biggest challenge this week is going to be getting through my 30th birthday party sober without 20 of my closest friends guessing I'm pregnant - any ideas, anyone?

You could say you had a very heavy night on the booze with your dh/dp the night before and have completely gone off drinking - managing only a glass of champers of course as you really do need to toast your 30th! The antibiotics excuse is too obvious.....

Piccalli can you just hold the drinks and get your dh / dp to drink them for you? Its a tough job!
I had something similar when I was pregnant with ds1, and spent the time either putting drinks down and 'forgetting' where they were or saying 'I've got one in over there', getting dh to drink them, buying them myself so that I could order soft drinks, or pouring them away. You can have a couple of drinks no problem so maybe a combination of all of these and you'll be fine!

Personally, I dont worry about having one or two a week but its a personal choice.

I went out last Friday and got my own or my dh to get my drinks for me. I ordered a rum & coke (with a nod to him to omit the rum) and when someone bought me a drink later I said the same so got one or two drinks with rum...which I considered ok as it got my sister off the scent.

Otherwise I just say ive got my car at the station if im going out after work. At the moment im avoiding the social scene anyway, I find it easier this time of year.

Hi, I've not posted for a while.

Still not had my scan date through but I think things are going OK. I had two early scans with ds1 which made it all feel a bit more real.

Can't believe there's 25 of us now.

I know, it's quite a list, isn't it? Doesn't feel all that real to me either yet, despite all the puking. Although amazingly I haven't thrown up at all yet today, and feel relatively human - maybe it'll all start easing off soon - please god!!!
