Yay! New thread Thanks Likerabbits!

Tinier - glad you're feeling better, a good cry can work wonders!

Re the baby names thing, I think that forum just gets a little mad sometimes. I appreciate that when people have asked for opinions they're going to get them, but some people do seem to enjoy being unpleasant as possible. Hope you're feeling better about it Minipink - it was unfair of people to start being nasty about your other DC's names

We have our name picked out but haven't told anyone. We both love it to bits, but would rather present it to people as a done deal so they can't say anything without being rude. My DH has an unfortunate name (really, he's got a name that's very similar to a very famous movie character) and has never had a problem beyond the occasional guffawing Customs officer Doesn't stop my MIL from being hugely judgemental about names though!

(Sorry! I get a bit sensitive on the topic of baby names thing, I just don't understand why people get so worked up about what other people want to name their child)

Thought I would re add this list from the other thread.

Hospital Bag

For you

2 or 3 nighties or PJs
Sanitary pads (heavy duty about 2 packs)
Knickers (disposable, old or tesco value!)
Toileties - shampoo, soap, etc
Hairbrush
breast pads
Lasinoh cream (start slapping it on as soon as you are feeding to prevent sore nips)
Pampers bed mats (good for underneath you just after the birth saves you having to ask the MWs to change the sheets)
Disposable wipes for cleaning the toilet
money for phone etc.
Clothes to go home in (comfy, stretchy ones - do not pack your size 8 skinny jeans unless you are Posh Spice)
Make-up to perk yourself up for visitors

For baby

nappies, nappy sacks
cotton wool or wipes (cotton wool is useless at getting meconium off)
hat (even in July)
pair of scratch mitts
vests and babygros (number depending on how long you plan to stay - I would say at least 3 of each)
cute outfit to go home in
Muslins

Birthing bag

TENS Machine - unless you are already wearing it.
Birthing Ball - great for getting those contractions going again incase they ease off once you get to the hospital.
Old nightie / t shirt to give birth in
Pair of socks - believe it or not your feet can get really cold!
Disposable / old / cheap knickers and a couple of sanitary pads for afterwards
1 x nappy, vest and babygro & vaseline - smear it over baby's bottom before putting first nappy on. Makes the meconium very easy to get off without making baby sore.
Camera!
Some CDs so you can have whatever music you like playing in the background to help you relax.
A couple of flannels for DH to 'mop your brow' (makes him feel useful!)
2 towels (red or navy)
Some snacks to keep your energy up. I've been told those Lucozade glucose tablets are good.
Straws - rather than trying to sip from a cup and spilling water, much easier to sip through a straw whilst DH holds the cup.
List of people DH needs to phone to announce the news phonenumbers
Maternity notes and birthplan
Socks, feet get cold during labour

Sleepycat - I'm craving elastic bands I don't actually want to eat them, just chew on them.

mcchesers · 20/05/2008 23:21

AHH Sleepycat- I have the same thing..crunching ice, and it has to be the right kind of ice like what comes from the store or it's too hard and cracks my teeth.

Heffa - that's an odd one. I had a friend that needed to smell rubbers so bad that she used to hide them in her purse and then take them out and sniff them.

Likerabbits - that's one hell of a list! I've got a wee bag of stuff for me and a freebie diaper bag for baby stuff. DH is going to bring his own bag with music and snacks and magazines.

TJuice · 21/05/2008 05:09

i can't believe i haven't had any cravings??? apart from one evening months ago when i had to have pancakes with strawberry jam and cream . . .

i really thought i would be a pickles and ice-cream person, as I like weird combos anyway (McD's french fries dipped into a McFlurry anyone? Peanut butter, marmite and cheese sandwiches - yum) but nothing, no, nada!

CilC · 21/05/2008 07:02

Oh I found you all! Wow you have all been chatting lots.
French fries and mcflurry...now that is an almost normal craving TJice! I love that with some caramel sauce if it is going! Infact now would be good!
My Gawd those bag lists are huge! Sorry after all these years of travel I like to go lighter! You guys wll need big wheelie cases!

Have been in hospital...sadly my body is slowly crumbling around me... I sort of knew what to expect this time around after suffering with DD, but it is quite difficult at times to remain upbeat and positive. I can not believe my long list of physical woes... but then the other day was the final crunch!

My SPD has got so bad my legs just crumbled out from behind me while I was out at a cafe and I fell heavily onto the ground and another chair. Poor bump got a fright and ribs are broken. I then had some leakage which I thought were my waters breaking... but luckily little baby is ok and safe. Infact he loves kicking my sore ribs.

Not sure if I am going to be able to sleep well for the next few weeks and having no family around is really difficult so I may need to vent and rant on here!

Anyway a big hello to everyone, sorry I can not go through everything and everyone, but it sounds like despite all your trials and challenges everyone is coping as best they can. Not long now...phew!

isaidno · 21/05/2008 07:37

Cilc - you poor thing - have a big (HUG). At least baby is ok even if you feel like a wreck

sweetkitty · 21/05/2008 07:43

Morning all looks like it might be a nice day here today. DD2 is going to nursery for an hour today for a little trial. I have to stay but in a seperate room. I know it's silly as if I had went back to work she would have gone to nursery but I've never really been apart from her in 2 and a bit years (apart from when DP has her). Apart from that going to have a quiet one today get caught up with a few things.

CliC - ouch you poor thing that sounds horrendous. Can your DH not take a few days off work? Thats what we do if I am ill not ideal but theres no choice really. If not a few days watching cbeebies will not do your DD any harm.

Tjuice - I am just craving food in any shape or form

Likerabbits - thanks for bringng the list acros I am desperately trying not to pack a suitcase this time.

TJuice · 21/05/2008 08:05

cilc - sounds really bad but you sound amazingly upbeat. hope the ribs and bruises heal up in time for the final round - ding! ding! glad baby is okay and hope you manage to get some R&R if that is possible . . . .

my bike tyre punctured yesterday and i have to walk to work. its not that far but its soooo much more uncomfortable than cycling!

Heffa · 21/05/2008 08:47

CilC - poor you, that sounds awful! Vent away! Lots of hugs

I think I've got most of the stuff on that list packed, and a few extra bits but managed to fit it all in a reasonable-sized bag. I did cheat a bit by having a separate (smaller) bag for the baby stuff though. Baby bag has to be kept away from DH otherwise he gets all weepy over the clothes.

The rubber band thing is a bit weird, especially since I don't actually fancy food in any other shape or form at the moment. I am drinking buckets of water though.

Minkus · 21/05/2008 08:48

Another thread already, blimey the last one only lasted three weeks we talk LOTS.

CilC that sounds awful- you poor thing. Hope the soreness goes sooner rather than later.

Heffa- lol at the elastic band chewing! My sis craved washing up sponges, the type with the green scourer on one side- like you she didn't want to eat them just chew for a while! So funny what pregnancy does to our tastebuds.

Off swimming with ds in a mo, trying to do lots of "stuff" with him before baby arrives. Have a fun day all xx

MINNIE1 · 21/05/2008 09:05

Morning all

Cilc OMG you poor thing, feet up and relax. I complain when lo is kicking my ribs so cannot imagine what it like when there broken and lo is kicking.... hugs]

New thread and to think we will prob have at least one birth announcement on this one!!

Rain has arrived here well its started.. feel like a day on the couch with the fire lighting!!

Cravings here have all gone quiet, I was crisp mad for a while but now on the chocolate...

Lo is kicking the living s$&t out of me and BH are getting really strong!! count down is on!!

Libra1975 · 21/05/2008 09:24

ohh nice new shiny new thread, don't give it long before we fill this up with everyone starting ML.

Thanks for bringing the lists over, I STILL havent' started my bag (does looking at large M&S bags count? Who bought the leather big leather one on here they are really nice)

CilC - sending positive vibes that your poor old bod keeps it together for as long as possible. Sorry to hear about broken ribs but so glad your LO is ok.

SK - hope it goes well at nursery.

Heffa - my first trimester thirst has come back again as well and I'm drinking about 2lt water a day.

I am just craving food in general, both my DH and my work colleagues find it hilarious that the last two midwife visits have found positive ketones in my urine and to be honest I am not sure how I can eat more.

DH b'day today and he is spending the day working and then accompanying me to our first Hypnobirthing class tonight! good grief our lives have changed

gillythekid · 21/05/2008 09:43

Morning all.

Clic Sad to hear your body is crumbling, obviously putting all it's energy into growing baba and nothing left for anywhere else. Rest up and get well soon.

Libra hope you enjoy your first class, I think it's amazing!

Thank God most of you have noticed the increase in appetite, I thought it was just me.

Off to see my Osteopath, 70 mile round trip but worth it, just hope he doesn't make the well worn size comment that I've heard too many times this week. Is it ok to tell people that it's rude, or should I make a remark about how bald or smelly they are?

Just cornered DH before he left for work and got him to do the long overdue pubic topiary. I can't see his handy work but I feel he's surpassed himself and done a thoroughly good job. Perineal massage soon, think he might cry, or at least wince. Anyone tried it yet? TMI? Probably!

minipinkscottish · 21/05/2008 09:48

HI!! Lovely new thread!!

Thanks to all for support over baby names thread. I have never, ever said a possible name to anyone before except dh but stupidly thought i could do so on here. Well I wont be mentioning it again. We are still considering the options and will post name after the birth

Cravings - it was chocolate for a long time but that has subsided now. I too love ice but very small pieces in a glass, filled to the top and then lemon and lime diluting juice. I can then crunch ice with each sip ....yum!! Must go and have some

Who do you think will deliver first?? TJuice? Liberlady? Mischika? or Twinkle with the twins?? Exciting xxxx

Libra1975 · 21/05/2008 09:58

ohh minipinkscottish that sounds lovely, like a homemade slush puppy! (can you still get them?)

gillythekid · 21/05/2008 10:18

Oh God, the ice thing! I buy a bag of it from Tesco along with a lime, a tin of lychees, soda water and blitz it all up in the blender with some fresh mint, it's a non alcoholic cocktail I had whilst honeymooning in Hong Kong, bet it tastes great with a bit of white rum!

Heffa · 21/05/2008 10:29

I haven't had the ice thing at all - although I have been making DH fetch me iced water at bedtime.

I do find that a trip to Waitrose tends to bring out "pregnancy" cravings though

EEC · 21/05/2008 10:48

CilC - Hope you feel better soon, you poor thing.

Just back from MW. Baby still breech. What a bore. Off to Argos to buy a birthing ball. They took bloods last time and I heard nothing so assumed all OK. Turned out there was some sort of error (perhaps they lost it?) and I had to have it done again! Told midwife about constant BH, and she said I may be dehydrated so must try and drink more... The ice slushpuppy thing sounds like a good idea, especially if it gets hot again.

Turn Baby!
