Sorry for all of those suffering insomnia - my problem is that I just can't seem to get to bed early enough but I do sleep like the dead once I'm there. That said, I felt like coming over all mediaeval last night, and pouring vats of boiling oil over the tossers singing football chants in the street at gone 11 . At least they didn't wake dds, and dh is back tonight so he'll be back on night-time duty.

pigleychez · 22/05/2008 10:51

Im washing my baby clothes now....

im using Fairy no bio tablets and Fairy softener.

My braton hicks have felt like my tummy going tight for a few secs/minute...had a bad one last night where it was very uncomfortable.

I feel allsorts of random pains when baby moves mostly cause space is short, baby nudging organs and i feel allsorts of limbs poking out.

Clic- Hope your feeling better soon, Great that you have some help with the nurse and DD being in Nursery.

Minipink- Hats off to your Child minder!

Peanut73 · 22/05/2008 11:28

CilC - my heart really goes out to you. It sounds like one of the worst scenarios you could possibly be in at a time like this. Thank goodness you have a loving husband taking care of you (and a personal nurse). Thinking of you. xx

Well, the builder hasn't turned up for his 10.30am appointment - what did I expect?

Really should think about writing a birth plan soon I suppose. The problem is, I don't know if they'll let me give birth in the hospital's birthing centre as a) my cervix is already dilated (so perhaps means my labour won't be textbook), and b) I have a 2 vessel cord. I'd ideally like to use the pool. Maybe I should write two plans; ideal and plan b.

Wondering about pain relief too. Although I would like to think I could do it naturally, the thought of an epidural is very appealing. The problem seems to be that if you want an epidural you have to make your mind up before the time you would actually be screaming out in pain for one so they can insert the needle into your back.

Any thoughts? What are you gals opting for?

xx

JODIEhavingababy · 22/05/2008 11:30

Hi Mummy2besoon, BH can be quite uncomfortable/painful, I find they are worse when I've done too much running around during the day. Also the pains you are describing, I'm getting those too, but my MW reckons they are just 'growing pains' which makes sense, although you can't help but worry can you! (I can say, worrying doesn't get any easier when they are born!)

JODIEhavingababy · 22/05/2008 11:33

Hi Peanut
I wrote a lovely birthing plan, and as soon as I got there it went by the by! (The midwives didn't even look at it) Talk to your consultant this afternoon about what kind of birth to expect, and just write a few notes, and inform your hubby about what you want/don't want. EG if you REALLY don't want an Epidural (for example) then tell hubby, so when you are screaming out for one then he can try to reason with you, rather than just let you get on with it!

Peanut73 · 22/05/2008 11:36

Thanks Jodie - I have heard similar things from others on this thread before I think so I will decide right now not to regard the birth plan as gospel otherwise I'll be disappointed! Hard when you're a control freak like I am - and a newbie!!

mcchesers · 22/05/2008 11:43

Hi all,

Ok the board is up in the window and with this being a 5 week month we are skint as the day is long. I had put in a claim for MA ages ago thinking that I could just pick up another contract, but now that I am in the the birth zone and there hasn't been anything short term since April, not so good on the money front basically until we sell or until almost July when they may or may not approve my funds. I just never figured we'd be living on DH's wages alone. I've never depended on anyone for money and I feel absolutely horrid.

Poledra - I am with you on the boiling oil. We should tar and feather them too!!

mummy2bsoon · 22/05/2008 12:06

ahh the joys of pregnancy!!!

Heffa · 22/05/2008 12:17

CilC - glad to hear you're having help, you poor thing! Thinking of you )

Peanut - my birth plan was to tell my DH to let them do whatever is necessary to get the baby out safely. The only things I have asked for is to have baby delivered straight on to me (if possible) and for him to be prepared to be a bit bolshy if necessary (after hearing horror stories about MWs ignoring people - a lot of the women in my family were nearly sent home because it was 'too soon' despite them already crowning during first labour). Oh, I did say I didn't want pethidine either. I did want to have a water birth when I thought I was going to be able to use the MW-led unit but now I have to be in the main hospital there's no chance. One pool, 13 rooms or something.

Umm Fulaan - I'm going to be washing baby's clothes in Ecover non-bio liquid and I don't generally use fabric conditioner other than a small amount of cider vinegar (it's weird, I know, but it does seem to work! And doesn't smell of fish and chips). I've packed my hospital bag as well, although I keep panicking that I've forgotten something and starting again. D'oh.

Minipink - wow, your CM must be amazing! I love large families

Mcchesers - good luck with the house sale - what's the market like where you are?

mummy2bsoon · 22/05/2008 12:27

i brougth stuff for my hosp bag, havent packed yet- havent brought a bag yet!!

ahhhh

mcchesers · 22/05/2008 12:28

Heffa - Scottish market is actually not to bad compared to down south. My friend just sold hers in 4 weeks, another mate in 5 weeks. I'm hoping this is a trend because our plan is to get me back home with my family as soon after this kiddo is out of my womb.

So angry having paid so much in taxes and then to be told that the benefit will not be paid in 5-10 days but now 5-10 be weeks before I see any of it. Really not liking not working

Heffa · 22/05/2008 13:07

Mcchesers - that doesn't sound too bad then! The market in this area is OK as well (I think most people sell reasonably fast).

The benefits thing is annoying, it must be so frustrating!

Did anyone see Desperate Housewives last night? The episode with the tornado? I just watched it on 4OD (don't have working TV at the moment ) and was in tears for ages after the ending.

JODIEhavingababy · 22/05/2008 13:13

Heffa, I've just watched it on Sky plus having my lunch! OMG it was so sad! Is last week the last episode?

pigleychez · 22/05/2008 14:09

Goodness me!

I just fell asleep on the sofa for an hour but now ive woken up i feel more tired than i did before!

Still i have a washing line full of baby clothes drying sweetly in the breeze.. very sweet. Came over all gushy hanging them out.

Neighbour just shouted out the window at whilst doing it saying "all that washing and its not even here yet"
Oh yes- suppose i best get used to it!

Libra1975 · 22/05/2008 14:24

Peanut73 - we are opting for a waterbirth cross fingers using hypnobirth. not ruling out anything tho!
I think the best idea with a birth plan is to keep it short and sweet with just the major points so that docs and MWs might give it more than a cursory glance. Your birth partner should know the details to enable them to support your decisions.

Mccheesers - giving up that independence must be hard but remember it takes 2 to make a baby and I bet your DH sees it as your shared wage now rather than just his. Sending off my MA form today!

Little rant, ordered some furniture from IKEA yesterday and the estimated delivery date was 28th May. Got email and the actual delivery date is 4th June. I know it's because I am both pregnant and tired but that is nowhere near the estimate date and we purposely left it until the estimated date was in our week off. I just tried ringing them to ask if it could be bought forward and they said no because it was a busy time THAT IS NOT MY PROBLEM they should have correct information on their website as I would have ordered it earlier.

Haven't washed any baby clothes, packed my hospital bag or bought a buggy yet.

Heffa · 22/05/2008 14:43

Jodie - I don't know! I hope Lynette's family are alright I found the whole episode really moving.

Libra1975 - oooooh Ikea! We ordered stuff from them a while back, got a delivery date of 13th May. When we clicked to confirm order, the screen froze and said there was an error. Rang customer services who said there had been no transactions but to keep an eye on our account. They took our money the next day, but didn't confirm the order so we rang up again. They confirmed the order but because we'd ended up "ordering" a day later, we had to have it delivered on the 20th May. So I booked that day off work (it was going to be my last day) and then they phoned us on Sunday evening to say they weren't going to deliver until 21st May but they would be there quite early (around 7-8am) because of the inconvenience. They finally turned up around 11.45. Given that delivery was quite expensive I was really . The stuff's great but I'm cheesed off with the customer service.

Sorry about the rant! It's been really annoying me.

Heffa · 22/05/2008 14:57

Gosh, there's been an explosion in the town near me Nothing ever happens down here so it's a bit surreal. Only one person injured luckily, but I just got an email from work warning us all to be vigilant in case there's more.

mummy2bsoon · 22/05/2008 15:06

ohh i brought my bubby, mamas and papas pramette style...!

tafftaff · 22/05/2008 15:40

Afternoon everyone,

You guys have been chatty over the last couple of days.

Rumpel MASSIVE congrats on finishing off your degree! That's amazing. Make sure you celebrate extra hard when you get the chance.

Cilc OMG...how are you feeling? What a crazy chain of events. Am pleased to hear that the LO is OK and that you are being properly looked after. Sometimes it is essential to have no expense spared when it comes to your health.

What I want to know, is how come you don't get told any of this before getting pregnant and then all of a sudden a whole new world of illnesses and ailments opens up! Do you think it is because none of us would get pregnant in the first place if we knew in advance?

Welcome back mummy2bsoon.

Pigley we washed loads of baby stuff the other day! First time I have ever washed anything so small apart from undies and socks! It was madness. We've been given so many baby grows etc.. that we ended up washing 15 of them and there's still more! I have told DP that I am going to iron a few of them for taking to the hospital and then never again after that!

EEC how you getting on with your birthing ball? I bought mine from Argoooose last week and have been sitting on it loads. Deffo going to take it into hospital so DP can use it too (they have spare ones at my hospital).

Mcchessers good luck with the house sale. Sounds like the market is good up your way so hopefully it'll be pretty quick!

And finally, 13 babies. That's mad/amazing. DP read the review to me yesterday so hopefully we can watch it tonight. He's making me chicken fajitas as tonight is yoga night! he made me kofta meatballs last night too! Reckon he's getting some practice in for when the baby arrives and it becomes survival of the fitest!

Hope everyone's having a good day. Am feeling mahooosive today. Measured my waist and am 2 inches larger than last week (40inches!!!)

Oh well, only 12 days of work left until ML, yippee!

Minkus · 22/05/2008 15:49

Jodie no don't worry I didn't take it that way! After this pregnancy 3 is excessive for our family Really admire women who can go through pregnancy more than twice.

Blimey Heffa just saw that report on the explosion in Exeter, things like that never seem real until they hit your locality do they?

Pigley I've been washing again too- did all the unisex stuff a few weeks ago and today the line has been flapping with lots of little blue things from ds. If this one comes out without a willy I'll be dying all the season appropriate stuff lilac I expect by adding a purple dye to the machine then getting the rest on ebay! Although don't really hold with the pink is only for girls/blue only for boys theory, but if it is a girl would like at least some "non boy" stuff.

Other Desperate Housewives fans- I've not seen it yet (Sky +'d it too) but more than likely I'll not get a chance anyway so go on someone fill me in! Saw the trailers, looked quite a dramatic episode.

JODIEhavingababy · 22/05/2008 16:11

OH Minkus, you have to watch it, it was the best episode thats been on so far, very dramatic and far toomuch going on for any of us to explain what happened. But get yout tissues ready!
