Just thought I would start a new thread! x

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

cliC- bless your heart, I just IM'd my DH about your story and he said geeeez!! feet up and rest madam.

I have read that in the 32-35 weeks your baby is developing the thalamus and maybe that's it working out motor skills. Mine is very wiggly at the moment. My ribs are sore enough without the bruises.

I only wish we had a waitrose here in scotland!
I was putting the baby's bag together and my SIL sent me a bunch of free samples of nappies and wipes and disposable changing mats. I'm just down to the bare bones minimum of stuff that I need now. We could make it for a wee while with what we have here, would just need to fetch the travel cot from the MIL's.

I've got 5 hospital bag lists from magazines in both the US and UK. I'll do a compare and contrast and let you girls see what the differences are. I take it no ice chips in the labour ward in the UK?

Peanut73 · 21/05/2008 10:55

CilC - I was wondering where you'd got to! OMG - I really feel for you, you poor old duffer! The pain must be tremendous, not to mention what a fright you must have got. Please rest up and mend.

I've been signed off work by my GP this morning. But I'm really nervous about telling my work!! I'm meant to be working from home this week and going in for a client meeting tomorrow morning. They gave me some stuff to do from home and I haven't done it... I'm so nervous about ringing! I was due to officially start my ML after next week. I want to enjoy this time off but feel so GUILTY!!

Also, I'm back to 4++++ glucose in wee so have to go back for a second GTT.

Gilly - I am keen to try this perineal massage caper too, anything to try to avoid tearing. Need to read up on it a bit I think.

Lovely to see everyone on the new thread. x

MINNIE1 · 21/05/2008 11:03

Peanut73
Just go for it, In fairness it's only a week. Dont feel one bit guilty you are already doing a job in growning your baby!! You have a genuine case so go for it..

DD's are killing one another this morning!! DD2 keeps turning off TV on DD1 and OMG there really going for it! Still in pj's just cant be a$"ed to get dressed!!

ECC,
Interesting about what your MW said about the BH.. Defo going to top up on fluids if it helps.. Getting them strong this time..

purplejennyrose · 21/05/2008 11:08

Hello all!
V interesting re bh and fluids - I 've been getting constant very strong bh for days now - will try drinking lots, can't be bad idea anyhow! Had some funny twingy pains yesterday too, was getting bit worried...
This baby is such a wriggler and a walloper!!
Still in PJs too and dd gone to my mum's, but have to pop into work briefly so must go and get ready now.

Libra1975 · 21/05/2008 11:15

I have to say I drink tons and haven't had any BH, not sure that constitutes a scientific study into whether dehydration = BH tho!

EEC - how far are along are you? My MW hasn't even tried to find out the position (or if she has she hasn't told me) mine goes from transverse, to head down to head up several times a day and I thought MW didn't really start worrying until 36 weeks. Haven't been weighed either, MW said as long as measurements were correct they didn't fuss about weight.

Peanut73 - if you have been signed off work then you are signed off work. end of. nothing to feel guilty about. good luck with the second GTT.

Peanut73 · 21/05/2008 11:23

Thanks Libra - that sounded very authoritative - just what I needed.

isaidno · 21/05/2008 11:29

oh shit; I just spilt iced strawberry smoothie all over the computer desk.

Heffa · 21/05/2008 11:37

Is your keyboard OK Isaidno? I spilt sherry on my sister's keyboard once and she had to get it replaced because the keys were all sticky.

LO was cephalic last week (which I'd guessed myself) but I'm not sure this week. MW said not to worry too much about it just yet in any case.

minipinkscottish · 21/05/2008 11:58

Just back from mw appointment and am feeling quite down now. At 28 weeks I had hosp app and I was measuring 30 weeks. Today I am 31+ 5 and am measuring 38 weeks I told you I was huge!!

Midwife got on the phone and booked growth scan fro Friday followed by appointment with a consultant - GULP!!! Then she says "don't worry"! She thinks it is a very large baby and not extra fluid. She took bloods to check sugar levels but none showing in urine MW says worse case scenario I'll deliver early - better scenario they monitor me and baby's growth will slow down and I'll go on to have my home birth.....
however, the baby is moving lots and is the right way round and my blood pressure is perfect xx
Sorry for long post xx
Clic - take it easy girl!!
Peanut - don't feel guilty - there will be jobs to do when this little one is grown up and flown the nest

sweetkitty · 21/05/2008 12:09

libra 1975 - don't worry I still haven't started my bag either plenty of time

gilly - good luck at the osteopath hope he sorts your pelvis out, re perineal massage, I din't do it with the first but TBH don't think it would have done much to prevent me tearing as she came out with her hand by her ear and it was also very fast, stitches weren't a problem though and no after effects. DD2 had nothing just felt a tad tender both below for the first day. This time I am hoping things have been well stretched already.

EEC - I have never come across the dehydrated = more BHs thing before. I had none with DD1 loads with DD2 and have just started getting them now. I thought it was because my body knows what it is doing now. I so don't drink nearly enough water though.

peanut - don't you feel guilty about work, you and the baby much more important, you put your feet up and rest.

minipink - sorry to hear about your MW appointment, always remember there are loads of women on here who are told they are having 10lbs plus babies and out shoots a 6lber. I think the growth scan will be more accurate.

DD2 was fine at nursery I stayed with her, she kept looking for me though, we are easing her in gently bit at a time. It will feel so strange when I finally walk out of there without a DD, what will I do???

Libra1975 · 21/05/2008 12:11

oh don't feel down, the baby is moving lots, the right way round and your blood pressure is perfect - they are all good things! Maybe your baby is just having it's growth spurt early, if there is one thing that reading this thread has shown is that there is no such thing as a typical pregnancy!! I know you really want a homebirth tho so fingers crossed it all levels out.

libralady · 21/05/2008 12:41

CilC Ouch. Hope you are bearing up.

Out of interest what does cephalic mean? It looks like that's what the consultant wrote i my notes on Monday in the presentation column, and I completely forgot to ask.

I may try to google this in a bit.

Well I've been to B&Q this morning to get some turfs for the back garden. DH can get them out of the car when he gets home. So much for me being signed off this week to 'rest'.

With regards to the question someone posted about who is going to pop first, please can it be me? I've just about had enough now. Although my ML is due to start until after 20th June, so the 21st will suit me just fine (even if it does interfere with DH playing cricket).

I'm now 34+1 and have contacted my MW today regarding the antenatal classes and a tour of the hospital. Apparently the lady dealing with all this is off sick at the moment and the refresher course starts on 4th July - which is great considering I'm due on the 1st!

Looks like I may have to go private or miss out all together. Don't know if I can justify the additional expense to go private, especially as I have done these before. May just read up through some of my pregnancy and labour books.

Must also think about writing a birth plan and also think about packing a bag I suppose. Feel my head is firmly stuck in the sand at the moment.

sweetkitty · 21/05/2008 12:54

libralady - cephalic means head down so your baby is pointijng towards the exit do you think you will need the antenatal classes second time around? I didn't find them that great first time around probably as I spent the whole of my pregnancy on MN and reading everything pregnancy related on the train home. The tour of the hospital was the best bit though.

Chances are one or more of us will go in June how exciting. I personally have booked in the 3rd July dead on 39 weeks so I can have my homebirth, now if only it were that easy

EEC · 21/05/2008 13:06

libra1975 - I'm 32 +3. Midwife didn't seemed fussed that baby still wrong way up. She said that it can easily still change and mine is very moblie. It's just that I'm pretty sure he/she is never head down. Got to have someting to worry about anyway!

I haven't been weighed either, which I'm please about as I haven't got any scales at home and haven't weighed myself for years. Baby measures 33 weeks which is fine and bp and urine fine so all's well really. She said sh'd see me again in 3 - 4 weeks. Is this normal at this stage? I'm only 1 month off being 40 at the birth, and then I would be under consultant care, whereas my midwife hadly seems interested in me at all!

pigleychez · 21/05/2008 13:14

Clic- that sounds awful! At least baby is ok.- rest up though!

Then just sit on it and you can do some hip circles as well but I just find it comfy to sit on.

libralady · 21/05/2008 14:08

SK

Thanks for that. I'd googled it by the time I came back on here so I am feeling quite positive as at my previous MW appointment it was definately breech.

Might explain why I was so uncomfortable on Saturday night. I couldn't get comfortable and ended up taking codeine and paracetamol. When I got dressed on Sunday I put the same jeans on I'd been wearing on Saturday and had to let the elastic out 2 inches! I suppose bum up makes me bigger than head up around the waist.

Just hope it's not back to back like DS was although I had a pretty speedy birth with him for a first timer - just over 5 hours.

JODIEhavingababy · 21/05/2008 14:19

Blimey! Found you all and you've taken up 2 pages. It's taken me ages to catch up, and now I've forgtten what everyone has said...

I've been into town this morning and got everything for my hospital bag, now I just need to get round to packing it! I was people watching during lunch and there was loads of preggers ladies there shopping with their mum's and I felt so lonely, my mums in Spain and can't come back until September, and although my MIL is Fantastic, she's on holiday at the moment and it's not the same anyway is it? It's the first time it's got to me and I feel so sad I feel silly crying, but I can't help it.

Anyway, enough about me, ..

cilc sorry to hear you are feeling sore, must have been a shock! just rest up and look after yourself! (I know it's easier said than done!)

Tjuice 1 week to go!!!! How exciting! Can't wait to see the piccies, you will post them asap won't you?

Kaz and Monkey Hope you are both OK, I understand that Kaz is most probably as busy as busy can be, but you can't help worrying can you? (esp. not me at the moment, I'm a wreck!)

Ice cubes, OMG I couldn't get enough of them with DS, and it's started again! My Freezer is full of those little blue bags! Top Tip - the best place to get them from is Subway!

Hope everyone else is OK and I've not missed anything important....

JODIEhavingababy · 21/05/2008 14:20

BTW - With DS I was measuring that he would be a good 10lber and he was 7lb 4oz!
