VS you are in disgrace for filling up the thread and not leaving enough space to start another one. For a moment I felt lost and alone and nearly had a panic attack

LOADS of congrats to munkinfamily - Cameron is a great name, glad he is doing well.

VS - pay no attention to health visitors unless they are nice. I work with loads of them and some are very sensible and lovely and some are frankly barking. Unfortunately, I know the one I have been allocated and she is of the barking variety, so I will be allowing her one home visit and then telling her firmly will be attending clinic. That is, if I EVER have a baby.

EllieG · 20/04/2008 14:20

Oh poor scamp - sending lots of fast and painfree labour vibes x

VictorianSqualor · 20/04/2008 14:26

Oh did I fill it up
Nah, I'm cool with the mw, I know Alex is fine, especially having had a preemie that was very poorly and a fatso who wasn't, I know the difference ya know?

Where the hell is Scorpio?
I want to hug her!

Gangle · 20/04/2008 14:35

Congrats to everyone who has already deliverd! Just wanted to update my entry - baby boy, Matteo Alexander, born on 28th March by emergency c-section. Is anyone else a first time mum and finding it pretty tough going?

EllieG · 20/04/2008 14:42

Congrats gangle! I'm sure loads are finding it tough...I will be as soon as mine appears. PFJ was having a wee wobble the other day, it seems par for the course. Is your little lad alright?

Beeper · 20/04/2008 15:39

I am so finding being a first time mum tough and DS is 9. Think I am gonna find 2nd time tougher somehow.

Why are all 9 year old boys fixated by small dead woodland creatures and dog poo.

Mollyfloss · 20/04/2008 16:08

Hi ladies,

It's been a hectic few days but just popped in with a few more details.

So contractions kicked in well on Tuesday night but despite the pain I was still wondering if it was the real thing. I was already completely exhausted after several days of false starts. I went to lie down at around 9.15 and suddenly my waters burst. I insisted on having a shower and DH ran and got a cab. My Mum was terrified I would slip in the shower. When I got to the hospital I was in serious pain and when I was told I was only 4cms dilated. I started thinking about having an epidural. By the time the Doc arrived I had decided I was getting one and they called the anesthetist who should have taken 20 mins max to come but instead took 1.5 hrs! I was already at the pushing stage and had changed my mind about the epidural but the Doc said it would be a good idea to get one (she knew the head was still far up) and I trusted her judgement because we had discussed how she wasn't to let me have one easily. Anyway, after 1.5 hrs of pushing the ventouse came out (her heartbeat was slowing a bit but the Doc didn't tell me until later). I wasn't bothered by the ventouse, it just took three pushes and Ailish was born. We did skin to skin for about 30 seconds and Ailish was whisked away by the pediatrician for mucus removal and a blast of oxygen (a very worrying few mins). Unfortunately I retained placenta and had to go straight to the operating theatre (while DH was left in the room holding Aillish) and had a full spinal block and then 2 hours in the recovery room (they brought in Ailsih & DH to me). The spinal block was awful, with having drips, catherer and the wearing off. It really knocked me. I also lost a 1.5 litres of blood so am now on iron tablets (plus painkillers & antibiotics). Ailish was thriving for the first couple of days though but on Friday before we were supposed to leave we discovered she had lost slightly more than 10% of her birth weight and so had to stay in. We went on a marathon feed from Friday to Saturday. Every three hours she had bf, plus anything I could express from the breast, plus formula top up (as prescribed by the pediatrician) to fatten her up. She had put on enough weight by Saturday and she was discharged. We are still on the marathon feeds though. I don't mind her having the top up but she always gets breast first. Her latch is good but she still a bit lazy at sucking. My milk only really came in today so hopefully we will be able to stop the top ups in the next couple of days. We'll see what the midwife says tomorrow.

Anyway, she is an absolute doll, the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen and the best thing that has ever happened to me. DH is completely besotted. He wants to hold her all the time and even though he has no experience with babies he has become great at nappy changing. He is a worrier though and kept asking the midwives and support staff tons of questions. DH's parents are here and I have them all running around doing errands for me. I am really lucky with all this help.

God, I've written tons. Sorry for blabbing on. Must go and try to catch up now. Congrats to all the other new Mum's!!!!

Denny185 · 20/04/2008 16:47

Molly weldone for getting Aiilish safely into the world, it always seems such a shame when you hear stories of delivering the baby only to have a spinal after coz of complications. Glad you are both home safe and well now though cant wait for the pics.

Congratulations Gangle - I found my first really tough, its a massive change to go from work to being at home with a screaming thing and little adult conversation. When your feling beeter after the c-section find some post-natal groups def helps to get out and see/talk to other mums and know your normal, plus it stops the cabin fever. (Its still hard with subsequent LO's but at least you have an idea of what is coming)

Congratulations munchkinmum - sorry missed it on the end of the last one.

VS, hope your ok, at least you know he was starting from a really good weight so can afford to loose a bit.

Peachy · 20/04/2008 17:14

baby weight is a pain. DS4 hasn't made his birth weight up yet either, so we can't be discharged by MW. yet after ds1, ds2, ds3 failed to gain quickly we were seen by a paed and dx'd with a genetic tendency to slow weight gain- ie no need to worry. In the apst HV's have always talked me into giving the odd bottle, not this time though!

OP posts:
VictorianSqualor · 20/04/2008 18:30

I'd love to see the HV/MW try talking me into giving the odd bottle ho ho!
Sorry HCP's there is a virgin gut here and it's staying that way!!

Just came back from taking DD to a party and I nearly cried on the way home because I was sooooooooooo scared about being on the motorway with Alex
I was desperate just to stop and hold him and cry!

Also fed him in the car park at matalan
Wonder how many people realised what I was doing?

Peachy · 20/04/2008 18:34

i feel same way with Bas inthe car VS {grin]

no way anybody'll talk me into anything tjis time- he's more than thriving (ds1 adnittedly wasnt, due to undx'd casein intol) and i am a lot more-- erm- bloodyminded than i used to be. shouldnt have had a hospital birth with ds3 but didnt stand up to anyone, was a perfect birth too (and enough time for both of the mw to make it then...3 hours)

Mollyfloss · 20/04/2008 18:36

VS or anyone else who knows loads about BF, maybe you could help me here... ?

jenniejennie · 20/04/2008 19:25

Hi everyone, congratulations for all the babies who have been born, im convinced that mine is coming on wednesday!! Having reflexology tomorrow to try and reduce the water retention and try to start things off! Im sooooooo heavy, im ready to have the lil un now. Hope everyone is ok.

moominsmummy · 20/04/2008 19:46

well have made it to cambridge - backache has eased off alot thankfully - taking DH into hospital in the morning and my parents are looking after DS for a few hours

VS - pity the poor HV who gets allocated to you !

northeastmummy · 20/04/2008 19:50

Well done moominsmummy - I hope the journey wasn't too painful. Best of luck with tomorrow. I hope LO will behave until you have this treatment out of the way.

I wonder how Scamp is. I can't believe this one's been drawn out so much given her history.

EllieG · 20/04/2008 20:25

Ta NEM but have jut eaten roast pork with crackling. Not very good for getting baby out but soooo yummy. Oink.

Awwww molly, I love hearing birth stories. Am so glad you and your little girl are doing so well, and that Mr Molly is besotted. Am hoping that kicks in for DP, cos at the moment he seems rather uninterested and is more concerned with his new playstation game than his newest daughter arriving.

moomin - glad you managed the trip ok x

Peachy - have you had an update from scamp recently?

elfsmummy · 20/04/2008 20:40

Evening all.

Lovely to hear of some more births. Its my birthday tomorrow so for anyone still waiting the 21st is a lovely day

We're not doing too bad. MW coming tomorrow - no doubt to discover the gloom and doom of baby weight loss!

DD1 has been really struggling with adjustment to being a big sister. Lots of major meltdowns etc. Am dreading DH returning to work on Wednesday as it seems DD2 isn't the most settled of babies either. Still 2 more days to go! And he has to go back some time!

Breastfeeding going ok this time. Been really concentrating on positioning (after bleeding nipples and mastitis with DD1) and so far I seem to have got away with it. Milk came in much quicker this time too (on day2)

Am dying to hear from toastaddict to see if she was in the room next door to me at hospital. What a coincidence!

bunnyrabbit · 20/04/2008 21:06

Ooooh lots of new little ones arrived since I checked in last. Congrats to one and all and much joy with your little bundles.

Elfsmummy, my hubby goes back on Wednesday too and I can't say I'm looking forward to it. How old is your DD1? My DS1 is 4.5 and is sort of OK so far but anything could happen this week so would appreciate the ear of a kindred spirit. I also had an horrific time BFing with DS1, exactly the same probs as you by the sound of it, and know all about the joys of plummeting through the centiles. All a load of tosh! Let us know how the weigh in goes... my BFing is going scarily well. DS2 lost only 2oz in the first 5 days and put on 11oz in the next 5 days. Guzzler.

Oh and DH is out straight from work on Thursday so I have to cope with DS1 and DS2 all day and manage evening routine by myself.

Shall no doubt be on mumsnet about 10.30 tearing my hair out...
