For a first baby, when they are regular, lasting a minute or more, and five minutes apart (from start of one contraction to start of the next) some hospitals advise something other than five minutes). Or if you aren't coping at home.

For a subsequent baby they tell you off if you wait that long (IME).

BabyBratt · 21/04/2008 15:47

My midwife said when they were every 5 mins and lasting about a minute if that is any help

EllieG · 21/04/2008 15:48

Thanks PAL. Have a way to go then. I think I might go eat some cake.

BabyBratt · 21/04/2008 15:55

Ellie how exciting that it is starting for you. Thanks for the vibes.

Im going to clean out my car in the hopes that it may start me off properly. I have ran out of rooms to clean in the house.

PortAndLemon · 21/04/2008 15:59

Pity you're so far away... you could come and clean mine. Purely in the interests of encouraging labour, of course...

BabyBratt · 21/04/2008 16:21

Absolutely, my mum said I can do her ironing for her if I feel the need. To bring labour on of course.

Im a bridesmaid on the 13th June and I think to make myself feel better Im going to invest in some very attractive control pants as the other bridesmaids are all lovely and slim. Do you think the more you spend the better the inch loss? I know that is a random question but i've lots of time on my hands.

christmaspixie · 21/04/2008 17:15

Oh good found you all at last (after wandering aimlessly around cyber space for 2 days!! ) Thanks for the Rogan Josh NEM, I've just been for reflexology to try to get something to happen, but won't hold my breath! Haven't got time to read all the posts, but GOOD LUCK ELLIE!! Hope it's fast and easy for you. And Congrats to SCAMP!! (And any other babes that have popped) Brilliant news.

I'm officially 3 days late now, but by my own dates I'm more like 8. And still nothing! Pah!

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 21/04/2008 17:40

BB you might not need the pants, i'm still flabby obv. but back in old size clothes due to ds4 being a very enthusiastic feeder!
He's also a good sleeper- i have to wake him for feeds at night- but more than makes up for that by screeching every time anyone puts him down, or takes him out the house. To say he's a quiet reserved home-loving soul doen't even start to describe it!

HV came round today (MW not discharging me until may 2nd due to oral vit k and weight gain so I have HCP overlap!), fortunately i was out as she hadn't made an appointment and the living room was a tip - have to call her to book an appointment. grrrr. LAst time Is aw this woman was with ds3, when she said he ahd failed all his developmental tests but she was passing him as she 'knew he could do it if he wanted'- thereby delaying him getting any help by a year.

VictorianSqualor · 21/04/2008 18:06

I'm in a size 16 atm ,was a 12ish before pg, and this is only 5 days later, with a still swollen tummy.

PortAndLemon · 21/04/2008 18:11

I've been in regular clothes since a week to ten days post-partum... my "fat" (OK, "fatter") regular clothes, admittedly, and I don't want to attempt the others for a while. I actually weigh slightly less now than when I got pregnant, but I had a lot of weight to lose at that point and my belly is just scary now (DS to me yesterday: "what happened to your belly button, Mummy?").

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 21/04/2008 18:20

I had to gain weight to get PG- I wasn't skinny (exactly right for weightwatchers ideal) but after 3 easy conceptions just couldnt conceive.... went back to the size I was with ds3, add in one camping trip on mu birthday (lol) and bingo!

may go back to WW after a bit but BF is my priority right now.

BabyBratt · 21/04/2008 18:24

I think I am going to be around a 16 when lo comes out. I was a 12 when I started this journey. Most of my weight gain has been in the past couple of weeks because I have had to rest and eating because I am bored.

Im nervous about my sweep tomorrow. Im a wimp. Do you think they will laugh at me if I take my ipod to try and distract myself. I hate a smear what chance have I got with child birth!!!

EllieG · 21/04/2008 19:03

Still having contractions but they ain't bad. Just a bit ouchy. About 5 mins apart now and lasting 30-50 secs each. MD said not to bother coming in when can manage at home, and to come in when I can't talk through them and are really painful. Or my waters break, whichever comes first. Knowing my luck will all be a false alarm!
Feels just like really bad period pain, is OK just uncomfy at moment.

BabyBratt · 21/04/2008 19:08

We'll help you through it. That sounds painful when you can't speak through them. Maybe your birth will be pain free

EllieG · 21/04/2008 19:11

Yes I didn't like the sound of that either! Am hoping they don't start up for a bit. [wimp emoticon]

PortAndLemon · 21/04/2008 19:19

Just as a tip, when you can't talk through them you can still squeeze your DH/DP's hand really really tightly through them. And then kick him in the shins if he dares to complain... (actual shin-kickage unlikely to be required if you get the right mad glint in your eye).

BabyBratt · 21/04/2008 19:25

My due date is tomorrow and my DH is a Liverpool fan and he said if baby comes tomorrow he still plans on watching the match. I used the glint in my eye and he promptly said he was joking!!

PortAndLemon · 21/04/2008 19:28

Sounds like you have the right glint perfected there!

Woollymummy · 21/04/2008 19:41

Hi all, thought things were happening on Sat night, ready for full moon (tho not due til 28th), second baby so I thought it felt familiar when I woke at 12.30 am with big strong period pains every 10 minutes, lasting 1 minute. Eventually got really hungry, went downstairs at 3 am and had some rice crispies, and it all stopped. The next morning I found I had caught DP's recent gastroenteritis, so have had diarrhoea for 36 hours and am fed up. Occasionally I get a contraction which is more than a Braxton Hicks but they haven't been in a regular pattern. I just want my guts back to normal and my baby OUT! Has anyone else had bad diarrhoea before labour starts? I am sure this is a bug, not pre-labour.

northeastmummy · 21/04/2008 19:42

Very exciting Ellie ... maybe pork crackling is the ultimate labour inducer and it just hasn't been discovered yet! Who needs pineapple and curry!

I like the theory about late babies being easy by the way. DD1 was early and quite hard work, this one is already late so hopefully . All of you that have stories contrary to this theory, I'm not listening ... la, la, la, la, la ...

I've completely lost track of who I've congratulated and who I haven't so HUGE hugs to everyone who has their baby .

BabyBratt · 21/04/2008 19:52

I had a madras the other day and it was awful. I was so hot. Nothing even stirred I must have a cast iron stomach. I have piri piri chicken this evening and Jalapeno peppers on everything. I think this baby hates me.

Woollymummy I've got everything crossed that this is the start of your labour journey because illness at this late stage is just mean.

Woollymummy · 21/04/2008 19:57

I keep thinking, can't imagine which would be worse, having diarrhoea WHILE having my baby (YUK) or finally getting back to normal and then blocked up so when I finally deliver I bust my guts pushing him out. I just don't know what to eat to get back to normal, it's all just too sad and gross. I have actually lost weight in the past two days, which is not right

BabyBratt · 21/04/2008 20:05

Im suffering from the latter. I do not seem to be able to go to the toilet. Even if I eat a ton of fruit etc.

I hope you feel better soon

scorpio1 · 21/04/2008 20:45

ooh all excited for ellie!!

BF still going fab proper milk in now and she lloks so drunk, lol! Seem to be 3 hours at the mo which is great, she sleeps in her basket in between. the sicky bit has stopped - she was sick bloody delivery stuff in the first day. i read back my delivery notes today and it was only 9 mins from ARM to baby!!

i got a really nice feeding bra today & some nipple cream (lanolin?) so feeling very comfortable

Had gp check today, all fine, MW weighing her on weds. Boys are fine and dh is besotted and looking after me really well.

TLSM · 21/04/2008 21:00
