Dizzy glad your midwife appointment was positive where the baby's concerned. 3rd, 4th or 15th....people dealing with pregnant ladies should be friendly or CHANGE JOBS! So when do you think you'll have your Csection?

VG congratulations on the great work-related thing. It's always nice to be acknowledged. I'm glad you explained what you do because I was beginning to think you were not a phone sex operator BUT a sex therapist. As for your real work, you are a lady of many hats. I take mine off to you. I seem to be executive assistant to a four year old most days. By the way I love your minimalist list....looks a lot like mine.

Alittlebitshy sorry your ill.

Longway CONGRATS on the BOY!!!...and the torch, of course. I love Tomas!! Tomas Owen sounds nice ...that probably doesn't have a Spanish translation. Cot versus basket...it's really just a choice, oddly not yours as your little one will likely dictate where he "preferes" to sleep. VG does make an excellent point about the Mose basket's usefulness in any location during those early days.

Petitfilou My train wrecked and now I'm just hanging by a thread over a den of lions. Thanks for checking on me. Loads of Braxton Hicks action here....not today but for several weeks, quite regularly.

Captain will DS be able to switch to the church school in the future??

DancerPrancer Congrats on the BOY!! One of each...good work!

Cyteen don't worry about where your sex drive is...it will return, probably with a vengence. Be prepared. I'm in Alittlebitshy's club....none since BFP. Doesn't really bother me in the slightest. I feel like it's either make-um or bake-um and I'm baking-um at the moment.

Now a little me time...
DD is still sick. Her new medicine has her covered in red spots. So back to the doctor this morning for a different medicine. You'd never know she's sick. I feel bad for her because the doctor requested we keep her close to home for a least a week, maybe two. So no preschool, no soccer and no swimming. Because she's having trouble taking antibiotics he wants her good and well before being around the masses again. Fine by me, I guess. Picked up loads of new coloring books and crayons. Hopefully I can keep her entertained.

Stressed to the gills because of DD. I think that's why LO has been keeping a low profile. She only just kicked and rolled around a bit today after I sat down to read MN posts. Or maybe she was enjoying the ride and is now upset that the ride is over. Either way I feel better now that she's moving around. Couldn't handle worrying about TWO kids right now. How do you ladies with more than one do it? I'm totally worried now that I'll never be able to handle it.

Hoping the rest of the weekend is restful. The weather is absolutely beautiful here. It is sunny, about 70 but breezy so it feels cooler. DH said it's suppose to be cold again by Monday. Hot/Cold/Hot/Cold It's a yo-yo in these parts.

Will try to keep up tomorrow (Sunday) better than today (Saturday).

Thanks for kicking off the new thread TS, sorry you and your DD are having such a hard time. Hope a week at home does the trick and doesn't drive you crazy... Now, why do I only ever post when I should really have gone to bed?! I could have sworn I'd updated my line but if I did it obviously didn't 'take': trying again...

Love the title btw - nice one CC. Twilight - your poor dd. Hope you both cope with her being stuck in for 2 weeks. I guess you can go out and about doing errands, so not quite like you're stuck in quarantine with chickn pox or something....
Normally my dd (and me first usually) goes stir crazy stuck in but she's loved having some chilled stay at home days this holidays. It maye be because I've not been monitoring the tv time on those days.. but I am pleased to say she has done some playing and we've done craft and stuff as well on those days.

CC what a twat on the other end of the phone. Do lodge a complaint!
Is your school problem due to the new admissions policy some areas have trialed (and failed on)?? we have some friends in Herts who applied in the way they might normally have done - you know, fairly close, decent ish schools. But the system had changed and you could apply for any school however far, however over subscribed they normally are - and all of the schools were doing a "ballot" style selection rather than catchment and critera list type one. Thus these friends got a place for their ds at a school 45 mins in the wrong direction from the station (for them to get to work) and thier ds2's nursery. They realised later that if they had applied to some of the schools they thought they'd never have a hope in hell of getting into (ie v v good ones) that were closer than the one they got, but further than the ones they did apply for, they might have randomly struck lucky. I think they rejected the place they got and are appealing, along with a lot of parents. Sounds an absolute bl&%*y shambles (to quote Sir Alan Sugar lol).!!!

dizzydixies · 13/04/2008 11:08

Morning All!

TS well done on new thread but for those who missed it VG is a sex chat operator lol

am sorry to hear dd is still poorly, sending lots of positive thought that new medicine will work

have not yet decided on C/S, will wait and see, wouldp refer not to as don't have much recovery time and dh has very little time off but won't go against medical advice if they think this is a 12lber

ALBS how are you feeling today?

no braxton hicks here but only got them with dd2 3wks before I had her - I remember as they started on my 30th birthday - no alcohol involved I promise!!!

this morning has been spent digging out the study/playroom/dumping ground so you now can't see dining room! am away to look at storage on ikea website but there is going to be a heck of a lot of tat being put to charity shop/sold on ebay as soon as girls aren't looking!

back to work tomorrow for 3 day shifts and am not looking forward to it as the shift cow is back - she and I do not gel so there may be fireworks, she's nothing but a nasty vindictive bully and frankly am not in the mood to tolerate any of her nonsense [ding ding, round one!!! - I should at least have the weight advantage!!!!!]

TwilightSurfer · 13/04/2008 13:42

Morning ladies. Everyone slept through the night in the Twilight household...YEAH! DD and DH, as usual, are still snoring. I'm just not one who can remain asleep once the sun's up.

{Chiming in with Dizzy} How are you feeling today Alittlebitshy?

This isn't a pram question but...Will anyone be putting DC's together? I think I've decided to put both DD1 (4) and DD2 (on the way) in the same bedroom. DD1 says she prefers it. DD2 probably wouldn't actually sleep in that room for several months, even a year because I'll set her up in my room for obvious reasons. Just wondered if others with experience had good/bad tales? We do have a third bedroom but I'd really rather that remain our guest room (DH's computer room).

So what else it up on the baby gear front? Or the hospital bag list? Or the baby name dilemma? I'm 22+1 now so in my mind I've got six weeks until something could spontaneously happen (which would require a bit of a hospital stay on the baby's end) or I've got 12 weeks until thing could happen without worry. Does anyone remember our first 6 to 12 weeks on this thread??????? TIME IS FLYING....is everyone prepared?

Well I was going to start of my post say ooooh riot gear but no praps not given the lowering of tone that went on on the old thread. I think I'll be virtuous on this one. [saintly emoticon]

pf my work does sound related to yours. So we have as well a nursing boss / student, part-time librarian, part-time rozzer / student, and I'm guessing some of you other posters are SAHMs. What a nice variety.

CC I'm not really clear on how exactly the school place allocation works in the UK but it sounds as if the bloke you were dealing with was a complete waste of space, so you are dead right to complain. I hope you get a satisfactory response! When is your little boy due to start school? This Sept?

dd good work on the mucking out front! Most rewarding work but hope you are not lifting n carrying. My money's on you v. bully bitch. Oh bugger, there goes my virtuousness.

ALBS how are you feeling today?

TS sorry your little girl is still having health problems.

I'm bloomin starving but have no yearning for any food at all. Guzzling fizzy water thinking it will fill me up.

VintageGardenia · 13/04/2008 14:04

Should read:

"Well I was going to start off my post by saying ..."

  • not that alphabet soup I posted.
miamla · 13/04/2008 14:25

greetings all.

TS hope you don't get cabin fever with your DD!

albs, as you know, i'm only down the road from you so if there's anything i can do to help, you make sure you let me know.

so VG..so you're a sex chat operator..excellent! what variety we have on here! Officially I'm a very exciting IT trainer but also have my finger in other pies including crafty lessons for children (I sell it along the lines of "things a mother wishes they had time/knowledge to teach themselves eg knitting, sewing, fine art, t-shirt painting etc etc ie pretty much what each individual childs dictates they want to learn). Have also done a bit of in-line skate tuition but very informal (kids down my street found out i had skates and kept nagging me until i went out to play with them!). They can all use their brakes properly now though so i feel happier about them being out there. Hmm what else, oh yes, dressmaking. Mainly brides and bmaids but I have done a few evening dresses and even some everyday wear for others. I did do some IT tuition for adults for a little while but my students all got too good and didn't need my help anymore! I do the occasional pc repair for neighbours but i prefer not to! I do fine art paintings as well but these are presents for friends rather then selling them. I have been known to change bathroom taps for people as well but that's another story!
I pulled a muscle in my tummy this morning. Kind of serves me right because i was laughing at DP!
yeah DD, don't take any nonsense from the work bully. now is your perfect opportunity to tell her what you really think of her and if you regret it tomorrow you could always blame the hormones!
can we stop it with all the talk of organising baby things! you're all scaring me! so far i have 3 babysuits and a teddy bear...what else can a newborn possibly need?!! perhaps my list is a little too minimalistic!
ooh, to any first timers out there... i've found a brilliant book of birth stories available free online. not sure how many stories are in there but it seems to cover everything that could possibly happen..home births, hospital births, completely natural, c-sections.DP has got it now as i think it'll really help him to realise what might/might not happen. i haven't tried linking on here before so i'll give it a go once i've found the page again!
we're off to my mum's this afternoon and then i'm going to a party so i'll be revealing bump to lots of friends who i haven't seen in ages. i'm really quite excited about it. i just hope the miserable rain stops!
perhaps i should change my name to MiamlaOfWaffle! sorry, another long post!

miamla · 13/04/2008 14:35

link to birth stories here

they are all based on the Alexander Technique but even if this doesn't interest you, I still think it would be useful reading. Quite a few of the births didn't follow the mother's birth plan at all so no AT involved. AT just seems a way to relax but stay in control of your body at the same time. And also, as a way to help you "read" the signals your body is sending you during labour. Not sure how useful its going to be but i'm willing to try anything!

dizzydixies · 13/04/2008 14:44

VG am not an actual rozzer, I just work FOR the filth - I delight in the fact I get paid to shout at the rozzers - probably the only people in the world to do so without getting lifted dh and I work on different shifts which is why we're probably still married

the mucking out would go better if I could find the sodding binbags - the girls keep finding toys I'm wanting to chuck and I keep trying to hide them!! DH now up after all the heavy lifting, bloody typical!

just had a bacon butty, I felt I deserved it

TS am decidedly unorganised, am not sure if its because am not wanting to tempt fate or if am just a lazy mare this sorting out play room and spare/box room is maybe the start of it though - here's hoping!

My aunt has all my white baby clothes up her loft so will get them later on - they'll do for this one too - she has moses basket etc too and I don't feel the need to clutter up my house with it all yet

I also have people coming to stay weekend of dd1's birthday on 7th july so can't turn nursery into nursery until after they're away - there is a single guest bed in there for them to use and once they're away, dd1 will get that (her big girls bed) dd2 will get her toddler bed and we'll move the cot through there

TS mine already share a room and its fab, you can hear them chittering away to each other in the morning and they're so used to each other dd1 sleeps through dd2 shouting and dd2 sleeps through dd1 snoring lol if this is another girl will be tempted to put them ALL in same room so as one doesn't miss out on it all

names, nope, none striking me at all - which is why I think I LOVE helping everyone with theirs - avoidance!!!!!

friend of mine who lost a wee girl to cot death about 18months ago has just given birth to another wee girl, Maggie Rose. Lovely name and fingers crossed all well this time for them

on that not am off to continue the battle of the accumulated tat - not over doing it in case of pending fisty cuffs tomorrow

dizzydixies · 13/04/2008 14:48

great link miamla enjoy your mums and the party

I'll be in bed by 8am due to early shift tomorrow [harumph]

alittlebitshy · 13/04/2008 15:38

Am feeling betetr otday I think. thanks for nagging asking everyone!

Wow what a varied bunch we are jobs wise. Esp VG .

Am v imprssed at all this baby preparation work going on. I haven't bought a single thing nor have i got out anything (apart from the incomplete pram) from dd. Feel like it would be tempting fate..

The baby's room needs re decorating, new carpet and all the furniture in it being turfed out and a new wardrobe etc bought(dh has seen something v good in Ikea that incorporates wardrobe and drawers and all manner of storage options). Then will get cot down from loft and get new mattress etc. Prob going to wait until early June (after half term) to get it done... Any earlier feels like it's too soon for me. Dh has been asking if we can spread out the buying stuff so it feels cheaper, but I just don't feel ready yet It's awful what m/cs then the scares in this pg can do to your state of mind

The moses basket we use was the one I slept in as a baby . Think 70s patterms. . It's quite cool that my parents still have it and i was so very proud having dd in it. Thing is it was hard to get a mattress that exactly fit cos of the metric/imperial conversion problems but, the one was had was fine, so hopefully my mum can remember when she got it and get another one.....

VintageGardenia · 13/04/2008 15:56

dd how lovely for your friend to have tiny Maggie Rose, what a dreadful thing to have happened. I was reading a thread on here the other day about someone who had lost a little girl and it was so appalling to read about, I was crying and not posting, as I had nothing useful to say, but it really was terribly moving. So a big welcome to Maggie Rose.

ALBS glad you feel better. I know what you mean about the earliness of it, but knowing how long it takes us to actually DO anything I need to plan in advance, or else I'll end up sending DP out for nappies while they're cutting the cord.

Miamla you have a lot going on! And girls may I tell you all she is also currently providing an excellent bespoke maternity wear service??? Interested in your birth stories link, too, I can't get enough of this type of reading at the moment. DP is very but I have a bit of a hunger for it.

TwilightSurfer · 13/04/2008 16:41

Miamla, have only just read the first story and already feel inspired (and a little tearful).

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 13/04/2008 18:03

good grief this sodding room will be the death of me, to let you understand it houses ALL the girls toys/ our CD collection/dvds/ computer games etc/ wrapping paper and associated crap/ card making stuff/ the pc for dd1 to use/ an easel and is a general dumping ground - its only 3.5m by 2.4m

the shame, the shame, the shame!!!

nearly done, now have to put it all back in again in a manner in which the girls can use some of it rather than wonder where all their stuff is

have also culled a lot of CDs/toys and general pap and sorted out my card making stuff from 4yrs ago I made our wedding invites and because it was such a labourous task I haven't faced sorting it since

dizzydixies · 13/04/2008 18:05

VG obo friend thank you for your kind wishes, was such a terrible thing to happen, she has 2 dss from her husbands first marriage and this is what has kept her going. I feel like such a selfish cow when I worry about m/c, I think in comparison to what she went through - no crueler twist of fate in my eyes

CaptainCaveman · 13/04/2008 18:20

Hello everyone - thanks TS for new thread!
Had a lovely day out visiting the clan but nice to be home again.

catch up properly later - dh trying to wake ds up (he fell asleep in the car coming home!)

TwilightSurfer · 13/04/2008 18:35

Dizzy the room your cleaning sounds like the room I cleaned last weekend. Took me...
F O R E V E R........ I don't envy you but I do sympathize.

Still reading stories from Miamla's link when not pittering around with DD, who is one big red spot now (doc said it would get worse before it got better). If she didn't look so bad I'd take her out shopping or something. She really seems fine otherwise.....she's just scary looking. Thankfully she's in a wonderful mood, a sign that all forms of illness are behind us.

Have gotten hooked on Lemonaid suddenly. Could almost swim in it. YUM! I guess that's my body's way of telling me it's tired of plain old water all the time.

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 13/04/2008 18:41

TS there is something mildly satisfying about it - have been threatening to do it for weeks so pleased to have made a really good start - we were going to have it plastered and repainted etc but it actually scrubs up ok(ish) and as its not at top of list for needs must will just get it recarpeted and deal with it again in a few years time

glad mini surfer feeling a bit more chipper

Buckets · 13/04/2008 19:37

Hi all
Came back a night early from Butlins - got bored! Kids liked it all right but it was making me and DH a bit depressed! DD was up and down the whole time because of the sheer number of fun things, the mood crashes in between were quite unpleasant. DS was a bit of PITA as expected and I had a horrible half hour stuck with him and no pushchair (he CANNOT be made to go anywhere he doesn't want to and he's too big for me to carry) - I was in tears when DH finally thought they'd better come and find us. Food was really crappy and our sofabed had to be repaired twice, resulting in 2 uncomfy nights for DH. You gets what you pays for I suppose.
Miamla - well done getting your DH educated , it was him quailing at the thought of there being a spot of blood involved wasn't it? He's got 4 months to toughen up LOL, I suggest next you see if there's a homebirth on Youtube.

Buckets · 13/04/2008 19:41

Oh btw I'm a SAHM during the week and a mobile carer on Sundays. Used to be in housing admin before kids and I have a totally wasted degree in linguistics (useful for crosswords and Scramble.)

VintageGardenia · 13/04/2008 20:32

Buckets what a shame your break didn't work out as planned. The worst bit sounds like the sofabed! I don't have experience of Butlins but I can exactly picture the ups and downs you describe - a bit like when they come out of a party high on sugar and come crashing down in the car on the way home.
