Hi ladies, new to the thread but due April 21st with 3 baby. Have been reading but not contributing! We decided not to find out the sex this time as we have one of each already but the during our scan the technician referred to “her femur” when measuring baby. Should I take this as a little slip up on her part or do you think they just refer to him/her etc if the parents decide to not find out? Just curious really. Thanks x

@Sales88 some people say ‘her’ for everyone, so it can be how she refers to every baby or a slip. So hard to tell, sorry

I hope everyone is doing well. I have been so unwell over the last month. Viral infections back to back! Counting down the days until the baby comes so I can be normal again!

@Sales88 its hard to say but each and every scan we had from early (due to bleeding) the sonographer called the baby ‘he’ but we are having a little girl 🙂
My midwife referred to baby as ‘he’ at my 16 week scan too and said she just picks one for each of her ladies as it makes the baby feel more human than just saying ‘it’ or something haha!

@Missgemini i hope that you start to feel better soon! I’ve had the worst cough for the past 5 weeks and was prescribed antibiotics which did nothing, out of hours GP prescribed me an inhaler which seems to help a very little bit but it’s horrible to be poorly! X

@Sales88 my midwife always says "him or he" because she has two boys of her own. So I guess it's just what people are naturally used to saying or if they have children or their own

@Missgemini thanks, hope you start to feel better soon.
@LauraA31 thats so interesting, I just assumed she had let slip but something tells me I’m having a boy! Makes sense to humanise the baby to. Thanks. Hope your pregnancy is going smoothly now.
@xalexandra does sound common now, I’m glad I asked, thanks.
I have wondered before if the sex is recorded anywhere in your notes or hospital somewhere even if parents do not wish to know 🤔

Thanks for starting a new thread :)
@Sales88 if it were me, it'd have been a slip up, but everyone is different so I don't think it's possible to tell.
@xalexandra congrats on your healthy scan. I reckon they are just pushed for time so can't spend any longer than necessary with each patient. My app slots here in Germany are so rushed, I'm in and out and seem to be allowed one brief question before being shown the door, it's quite annoying.

Anyone else experienced their bump going up and down by this stage? A few days ago my belly was feeling more solid and rounded and I thought it was moving forward, but now it's feeling squishier and less big again. I hope little one is OK in there.

Thanks for starting the new thread

I've been hit with this awful virus going about just now. Just picked up some strepsils and it says to contact your doctor before taking if you're pregnant! I've only had 2 so not too concerned but why is pregnancy so hard because all you can take it paracetamol 😩 lots of lemon tea with honey for me over the next few days. Didn't even feel this ill last time I had covid

Margo34 · 03/12/2022 21:34

@MamaMenna yep my bump changes depending on where or how baby is lying, I think! When I went to bed a few nights ago bump was rock solid on the left hand side, I told my bump oh hello baby then I prodded a bit, felt movement and then it went all squishy again 🤣

@Missgemini thanks for the new thread!

@xalexandra congratulations on your scan! With DC1 my 20w scan sonographer was so grumpy an hardly said a thing, it was definitely an 'in out job done'. But this time with DC2, I had a wonderful sonographer who talked me through everything she was seeing and was so friendly, the actual scan getting all the measurements this time took so long because of baby position and I ended up with the bed inverted and my feet in the air whilst on my side 😂 (and the sonographer found it just as funny as we did as baby still kept wriggling so much)! The difference between the two 20w scan experiences was quite stark, I guess every sonographer is different 🤷

Holaaaa chicaaass!!

Back in the room! Well, almost, I return to the U.K. on Monday when I can return to being active on here. \o/

Ive been working away since October but I’ve flicked through what I’ve missed (nappy chat is ace, I’m going for reusable). LOVE LOVE LOVE all the wonderful scans and reassuring news for people.

Did you guys pick up some bargains for Black Friday?

I’m low key as ever, I just have my head down working long hours (but in the warm!). I have no symptoms, no bump yet really and no movement yet so a catch up on Tuesday for my 20+3 scan will be welcomed so hopefully things feel more real again. I’m still in disbelief, and I think that will be until week 40 for me 🤣

ladies in their 40s - have you had further chats about having your baby early. I’ll be 5 months off my 43 birthday with my first child and everyone I see medically double checks my DOB 🙃🤣 I add “dinosaur” to the end of the sentence by default now. 🙄

Its really good to see everyone in here, and doing well despite the challenges. You’re an awesome bunch 🖤

I have an awful cold and I’m really struggling to breathe during the night which keeps me awake 😡 do u think I would be okay to use a couple of squirts if the Vicks sinex nose pray I have from before being pregnant. It’s the only thing that clears them but of course wont if dangerous. Has anyone else used them? Xxx

@Peachesthecat I'm so unwell too but I've read not to use decongestant 😢 I've just had a lemon tea and honey and that's actually helped clear me a little and calmed my horrific cough. It's hard being unwell and pregnant and not being able to take our usual remedies. I'm just hoping it doesn't get any worse as my mum and dad are really unwell with this virus hoping I just get it mild. I also found sleeping propped up last night helped a little. Hope you feel better soon

Thanks for the new thread 💕 was feeling a bit lost without you all haha!

Had a lovely day getting our Christmas tree, I got a cute little decoration which you can add your own photo to for a couple of quid from home bargains so I’ve put a scan photo in it, so cute.

When I saw the midwife after my 20 week scan I raised about wanting and ELCS again and she said I’d need to see the senior midwife, I’ve had an appointment through for this Friday!! Can’t believe how soon it is and feel a bit nervous but hopefully it goes okay. I’ve also been sent a consultant appointment for the following Tuesday so I’m kind of hoping that’ll just be to tick the box and confirm what I want. I know they’ll need to talk
me through the risks etc but hopefully it won’t be too difficult…

@Pommy1 we managed a good deal on our pram for Black Friday! Good luck for your scan on tues and it’s nice to have you back 💕

@lj2022 omg I have so so much sympathy, being ill pregnant is like some special sort of torture. Fingers crossed it’s short lasting!!

Is anyone else still getting quite tired? I’m not going to bed at 8pm like in the first trimester but I feel like I need to do a fair bit of sitting down and I get more physically tired and even out of breath when with my husband on our dog walks as he can go at a fast pace without really realising!

@Peachesthecat sorry to hear you’re unwell too, I’m not sure about those but I did use normal vix when I wasn’t well and it said it was safe in pregnancy.

@Jexi gorgeous scan photo, when’s your rescan?

Checking in 😊

Love the tree decoration @AliceinSlumberland!

Two of my friends have given me sooo many hand-me-down boys clothes. I started sorting through them today and it's made it feel very real that a little baby boy will be arriving in around 4 months! I still can't get my head around having a boy after having a girl. She was trying to put on some of the tiny hats and I was saying things like "they're for your baby brother" I think it's starting to sink in for me now 🥰 it's strange to think of her not being the 'baby' anymore

@AliceinSlumberland@AliceinSlumberland that's such a cute tree decoration 😍

And thank you 😊 the sonographer said it has to be 2 weeks from previous so my appointment is on the 15th December. They only had 8am or 3.30 which were rubbish times..I went for 3.30 and I'm hoping someone in our family will be free to get DC.

I've googled all sorts since the scan and it's just sent me in a spin tbh so I'm trying to avoid!
