Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
treacletart · 05/08/2007 08:15

Morning all. Many many congratulations to all the new arrivals - hope the smooth labours are a good omen for the rest of us. Well, erm, I'm having a baby today! Can't quite get my head around it but I'm having my waters broken around 10am and given the speed of last time they assure me it should all happen swiftly. . This is all so I can be in the right place at the right time; otherwise I'd be likely not to make it to the hospital in time and I have to be there in case I keel over with lung clots afterwards (possible, but not that likely really). Hate the idea of an induction but really hoping I'll be able to use the pool. I'll log on when I get a chance - think they might even provide web access on the fancy hospital tvs nowadays. Cheerio!

lizziemun · 05/08/2007 08:26

treacletart

Good luck today, i hope you don't have the problems you had last time.

stretchmarks · 05/08/2007 08:37

treacletart - good luck today hope it all goes well for you.

Annie75 · 05/08/2007 08:38

How exciting . Good luck, Treacletart - we'll be thinking of you! xx

growingbagpuss · 05/08/2007 08:39

Good luck Treacletart -hope it all goes smoothly.

Conkertree - similar story at this end... lots of contractions last night but nothing regular or consistent enough for labour. Starting earlier in the day now, not ust evening, so maybe they'll sort themselves out soon!!

Pengy · 05/08/2007 09:50

Good luck for today treacletart, how exciting for you!

Hope everyone else is having a good day. My cold seems to be easing luckily but still sleeping poorly, need that fan...

bananabump · 05/08/2007 12:06

Thinking of you, treacletart, hope you have a fast and uncomplicated birth!

Well tried some more sex last night (I don't think either of us are truly enjoying it now the bump is so big) but it didn't do anything at all. Had a few gripey period type pains during the night but again they haven't continued. I need distracting from analysing my abdomens activity!

In fact I fancy a trip to the beach but it would mean two or three hours in the car and that might be chancing it too much.

Katy44 · 05/08/2007 12:16

wow - I said I'd look out for treacletart's birth announcement but now I can watch this!
Good luck (although she'll have had her waters broken by now so probably not MNing )

Uki · 05/08/2007 13:49

Treacletart-wishing you a great birth

Bananabump- it sounds frustrating going past due date, you'll be in labour soon though enjoy your Sunday.

Pengy- i'm a bit like you feeling weak and sick so hoping baby doesn't come early, I need to find some energy first.

conkertree · 05/08/2007 14:56

bit late to say good luck to treacle but hope things have gone/are going well.

know exactly what you mean banana - felt quite attached to the 1st august cause its been the focus for so long, so felt quite disappointed that it wouldnt actually be that date, but i am pretty relaxed now about dates and am just looking forward to finding out which date this lo chooses as its birthday.

trying to plan some things to do this week so that i am not thinking about every twinge too much but its hard.

stretchmarks · 05/08/2007 15:03

Bananabump you can join me in counting backwards - I am working on the fact that this baby will be here within the next 13 days he can't stay in there forever. Just hoping I go into labour myself though so that I can use the Midwife unit. My PIL fly back to New Zealand on the 19th August though which means that if I left an induction until 14 days past my due date they may not get a chance to meet him.

WillyWonka · 05/08/2007 17:45

Forgive me for jumping in halfway through without having read back through all of the posts but have just seen bananabump's message on another thread asking if it was me who had had dd3 three weeks early on 21 July - yes it was!!! Unsurprisingly, I've not had much chance to go online since returning home though not from any lack of sleep - am only being woken once each night at the moment

With the Summer holidays in full flow, I don't expect to be online very often over the next few weeks so would just wish all the other August mums as straightforward a delivery as I managed (total labour: 1h 24m incl. 2nd stage: 0h 01m!!! ) and lots of happy and healthy babies.

growingbagpuss · 05/08/2007 17:59

Bluming hek WillyWonka - are you trying to break a record for speed? -fantastic.... all these lovely speedy births are having a very positive effect on us you know....

I've decided its too hot too have a baby today....

bananabump · 05/08/2007 18:03

Hi Willywonka, thanks for letting us know! Can I have one of your deliveries please? Now that's fast! Hope your lo is doing well, you sound like you're coping beautifully!

I know you can't get on too much but our postnatal thread is here if you want to catch up with/offer sage advice to us newbies as they arrive. It's still a little quiet but it'll be buzzing soon enough.

Just here doing some baking and faffing about the house wishing the time away. I'm only one day overdue and I've already had three "have you had him?" calls/texts today already. I'm seriously considering not answering people if they don't start to LISTEN when I say I will let them know. Not joking!

WillyWonka · 05/08/2007 18:42

BB - just ignore the messages, as you say, and let them stew...

jem1969 · 05/08/2007 20:34

Well done WillyWonka
For the other first timers- I'm very glad to have had a summer baby- couldn't cope with the long, dark nights and all that feeding in the dark. At the moment I only have to get up once when it's dark.
Had a nice day in the sun today except had to go back to the hospital for more blood tests (because they lost the first lot)and Hannah screamed the place down. Then DH had a bit of a fit trying to get the car seat in the car and collapse the buggy etc etc. All quite amusing.
Anyway, hoping for some new arrivals this week

Babylovesmuffins · 05/08/2007 20:45

Congratulations Mum2George! Glad to hear all went well.

It's getting very exciting now with another birth every time I log on!

Good luck Treacletart - I hope all's going well and look forward to hearing your news soon.

Good luck to all those who are waiting expectantly (Conker, Banana et al) and yes, just ignore the messages Fingers crossed for you.

Babylovesmuffins · 05/08/2007 20:50

Oh - Mum2George, I meant to say that when the baby's born in the caul, it is indeed meant to be very lucky and apparently fishermen and sailors used to pay a lot of money for the caul intact, as they believed it would bring them good luck at sea!!

A bit of useless trivia for you

rhiannon134 · 05/08/2007 21:05

Hi, never been on this site before. My second son is due today but no sign so far, was eventually ten days late with my first, does this mean I'll be late this time? Any tips to get him out?

WillyWonka · 05/08/2007 21:09

Afraid I'm in no position to offer advice on how to instigate labour but wanted to say hello and wish you well Rhiannon.

rhiannon134 · 05/08/2007 21:26

Thankyou. I heard sex helps because of protsaglandin in semen so tried that but then read that prostaglandin is more effective when taken orally so went downstairs and informed DH who said he was watching telly!

tokentotty · 05/08/2007 22:10

Ooh poor you getting that response Rhiannon!! I can't imagine it was exactly number one on your top ten things to do either.... Certainly would remind him of this instance the next time he tries to suggest you doing anything like that again
Think if you skim down for the last few days of posts you should pretty much see all that we've managed to glean from sources that is suggested as useful for starting labour tips
Fingers crossed something works - oh, and welcome !!

OP posts:
bananabump · 05/08/2007 22:12

Typical. They spend ages when you first meet trying to get their "prostaglandins" anywhere near you, then when you actually need them....

Bloody men.

Hi, by the way, welcome to MN and a whole world of fed up overdueness! We sympathise!

bananabump · 06/08/2007 07:26

Morning folks,

been up with slightly uncomfortable tightenings since about 4am, but I'm really not sure if they're anything proper. They feel like gripey period pains, not incredibly regular/strong. Got some lower backache too but again nothing major, just discomfort.

I so want this to be it but I doubt it is. But then again they might be helping things to soften up and stuff so it's all good isn't it? Trying to stay positive!

Annie75 · 06/08/2007 07:31

Ooh, me too, Banana! Exactly the same feelings - like strong period pains but intermittent. Wonder if that's the start for us? I've been taking long walks over the last few days for a few hours and reckon that's helped the baby drop down into my pelvis. Keep me posted and we can compare signs .
