growingbagpuss · 04/08/2007 08:34

Congratualtions Mum2George - bet that's a relief after our earlier converstions about sweeps, and mad midwives.....

We are on a roll now aren't we!! I'm looking forward to my husband-less, childless, friendless labour this afternoon while they all bugger off to different parts of the country !!

It strikes me that cooking the babies well has had some v positive effects..... more please, more please!!

lizziemun · 04/08/2007 08:58

Saw the consultant at the hospital yesterday as baby is breech (am 36 weeks), they are making arrangement to do an ECV when i am between 37 and 38 weeks if it hasn't turned by then. He think that it might as it keeps turning half way then standing up again.

So fingers crossed that by then it will have turned by then.

I am under strict instruction from DH and mum to pack my case this weekend, dd is also packing her case although i don't think she has quite got the idea because at the monment she has packed 2 jigsaws and a pair of knickers .

Congrat to those who have had their babies.

bananabump · 04/08/2007 09:48

Hooray, it's my due date!! I know it means nothing really but it's been a loooong 40 weeks, I'm chuffed it's almost over.

Midwife should be here in the next hour or so to give me a checkup, may talk progress with her, see if she can tell me anything insightful about my cervix! The doctor at the hospital did mention getting a sweep done if I went over my due date. In two minds whether to ask for one. Mainly cos I'm scared it'll hurt! Update later I spose.

Lizzie, best of luck with your ECV, sounds very promising!

Divamum, I tried the pineapple thing and have had two big fat ulcers on my tongue for a week for my troubles. If you're going to try it, I'd recommend blitzing the pineapple in a blender and having it as a smoothie, as it may be easier on your mouth. Never heard of anyone say it actually works though! I did start taking some raspberry leaf tea tablets but they're now gathering dust in a drawer so no idea if they work or not, sorry! Most midwives recommend sex as the most reliable way of getting things moving, haved you tried that?

boobooma, soooo of your birth pool. We wouldn't have anywhere to put one even if I was having a home birth, but I'd sooo love one to relax in right now! You'd have to crowbar me out of it! Hope you get your new one delivered before little one decides to put in an appearance.

stretchmarks · 04/08/2007 11:10

Morning,

Well it's my due date as well today banana and no real signs for me. Saw Midwife yesterday and she will do a sweep for me next Friday if still waiting.

Have tried pineapple, curries long walks and even tried sex this morning but still nothing. DS1 was the same though they will come when they are good and ready. But at least now I know it's no more than 14 days away.

Off to pick up some aromatherapy ils from the hospital today that they give you when you are term. Apparently have a nice long soak in the bath and can help set things off if you are ready. Need to try and clear my blocked nose a bit though or can't see it really helping me

growingbagpuss · 04/08/2007 11:59

Blimey Stretchmarks - your hosp give you aromatherapy oils once you are due? COOL !! Where do you live? Can I move there please? That's amazing! Mine advise -v cautiously, but thats about all...

DS off soon with DH to Sudbury - so I have half a day of sheer quiet. Think I might catch up on some sewing, or family tree work - all of which is overdue. I would lvoe to be outside in the sun, but I'm back in the support tights to hold my girlie bits in place - which I must say, feel much better (like you wanted to know!) -but it does rather preclude sunbathing!!

tokentotty · 04/08/2007 12:00

Hey chicks,

Seems we're all thinking the same thoughts and are trying everything we can. I saw Betty yesterday and she gave me the tablets that are meant to soften the cervix. They're called 'Caulophyllum 200' and I take one in the morning, then a second one 8 hours later and repeat daily. They're homeopathic so I'm not sure where that means you can buy them but am happy to give them a whirl. I've also to get the exercise ball out to bounce on. She says to kind of do bounce, bounce, bounce then squat and hold repeatedly - does this make sense ? Plus, pineapple, sex and walking up steep hills or the stairs, two at a time. Trying to think if there was anything else she mentioned...

In the meantime - massive congrats Mum2George, that's fantastic news and am so pleased you had such a short labout and are home and cuddling Emmeline xx

tokentotty · 04/08/2007 12:02

Oh yes, reflexology. She's given me the number of a retired midwife who now practisces reflexology but as she's local to me I'm guessing that's not particularly helpful to anyone else. Still, check who who's near you and give it a whirl ?

bananabump · 04/08/2007 12:03

Good tip there about the aromatherapy oils, stretchmarks, I might try and get some today (I don't think my hospital gives them out) even if they don't bring on labour it's still nice having a relaxing lavender bath, isn't it!

Midwife just left, she has booked me for a sweep next saturday if baby hasn't made an appearance by then. Just remembered saturday is the day mil is sposed to be coming down- aargh! I think if I haven't gone by then I'll be saying "No visitors when I have my sweep, thankyou"

But she said everything is absolutely fine, and just advised that if his movements start slowing down to go in hospital for monitoring, as is standard for anyone who goes over their due date. He's wiggling as we speak, and doing acrobatics for hours every evening, so not worried about that just yet!

Good luck stretchmarks, hope we both have an easy time of it, and avoid those sweeps.

BabyMadandBIGbump · 04/08/2007 12:14

good luck to veryone who are due today. im of to find raspberry leaf tea bags, sounds like mission impossible.
xx

stretchmarks · 04/08/2007 13:54

Congratualtions to mumtogeorge, seems like another easy birth if you are home already. Hope this doesn't mean the odds are stacked against me now for a difficult one

Goodluck Babymad - hope things get moving for you. I keep willing my back ache to get worse.

tokentotty · 04/08/2007 14:16

Divamum - go to Holland and Barrett and buy the raspberry leaf tablets 640mg. Take two, three times a day. A lot easier to get the amount you need without the awful drinking of tea business. Do bear in mind though, these are NOT meant to start things off, just to make everything work a lot better when you do start....

Thanks everyone. I think that going into labour on Thus night probably explains why I was a bit, erm, emotional, earlier in the evening .

Anyway, here's the gory details. Started having contractions at 11.30 pm, 5 mins apart from the off and quite strong. In fact, thought after the 1st 2 contractions that I wasn't going to make it downstairs to tell DH nevermind get to hospital! eek.

Did make it downstairs and told DH that the baby was on its way. He said "thats ok because we won't have to go to hospital until the morning will we?" Think the poor lamb was looking forward to a nice nights sleep while I just got on with it.

Phoned hospital told to phone back in 5 mins, later found out that some poor woman was delivering in the carpark and thats where all of the staff were.

Phoned parents and got DS up. Phoned hospital again and told them I was on my way. Then took DS to my parents on his "big adventure" as he kept calling it!

Got to hospital and by the time they had me sorted and a mw I was 5cm but contracting every 4 mins and really strongly. Went pretty much ok and had her at 2.45am. She was born "in the caul" which is supposed to be really lucky. Had a fab mw who was really chilled. The only thing I didn't get that was in my birth plan was the birth pool and thats because me & the mw agreed that by the time the pool was full enough the baby would be here anyway.

Think my Holland & Barrett scrummy Raspberry Leaf Tea must have helped

stretchmarks · 04/08/2007 17:57

Congratulations mumtogeorge - another good labour story - Was it very different to your ds1?

growingbagpuss · 04/08/2007 18:19

Well done that woman Mum2George....

loler · 04/08/2007 19:54

Wow - miss a week's messages and loads happening! Some lovely stories - making me feel slightly less panicked! Congratulations and hope everything is going well for you.

I'm currently sat in our lovely new back garden listening to a classical music concert (with fireworks to follow) happening in the stately home we back onto - very relaxing!

I beleive in the pineapple - with dd I had 4 whole ones followed by a walk up a very very steep hill went into labour (a day early) 6 hours later. Can't remember how I got through the sore tongue thing!

Hope there's some more news next time I get on the computer (isn't it exciting!!)

Washersaurus · 04/08/2007 22:05

Congratulations Mum2george and Bresha, and welcome to the world LO's!

Has anyone else gone disappeared sneakily to give birth this weekend?

I am trying to stay up to date with events here, but feel a bit out of place on this thread now I have actually given birth (and in July aswell ), so I have followed your link and posted on the other thread

divamumplusbump · 04/08/2007 22:17

loler, wow @ eating 4 pineapples. hope must have been small size. i hardly managed 1whole last night and had terrible sore mouth, lucky havent got ulcers.
anyway i went and bought raspberry leave tea, and its yummy, many said it was terrible. i like fruit tea anyway and loving it. any ideas to start off?
i know im being impatient, dd was 2 weeks early and im now left 2 weeks

conkertree · 04/08/2007 23:05

Congratulations mum2george - sounds like another good story to give the rest of us somw confidence that it doesnt have to be too horrific an experience.

still lots of contractions here - but not painful - on and off since last saturday so pretty frustrating, but nothing i can do about it - i know its dilating at least to a certain extent so just waiting for it to kick off properly.

finally got broadband in the house, so all we need is our new laptop, and then will be back on more regularly and able to keep up a bit better with whats happening.

bananabump · 04/08/2007 23:46

Good luck conketree and babymad, sounds like things are getting going for both of you Wishing you both a fast and easy time of it, hope you're holding your lo's by monday. Keep us informed, if you can!

Great birth story Mum2george, nobody seems to have had a difficult birth yet, it's all been really positive stuff, hopefully we will all continue in the same vein.

Not feeling quite as positive as I sound tonight. Somehow the 4th august has been tattooed on my brain for months and months, and now it's (almost) the 5th and he's not here. I feel strangely responsible.
