GTT is if you have risk factors. I didn't have one with DS and won't be having one this time round.

fizzledays · 06/11/2018 18:49

@Surprisedmom thank you that makes me feel better!!

@hayley013 OMG I'm 25+5 and feeling it so much ahhhh

Alicejj8x · 06/11/2018 18:51

No news back from The GTT yday so they said I would beat back either yday afternoon or today if I had the diabetes so taking that as I haven't got it

I have booked 2 antenatal classes as they were free and It's our first baby so I just want to see what it's al about xx

  • hear back
powkin · 06/11/2018 19:30

I’ve grown loads in the last week or so. Will be 25 weeks on Friday but seem enormous compared to a 31 week lady at one of my work places! I’m constantly surprised by it!

I missed the work Xmas party last year and was sad as it seemed really funny and this year I’m going to be blooming massive and very sober (I don’t really drink but will when it’s a big social occasion). Can’t seem me trawling round bars in east London at midnight in 5 weeks time which is when the silliness will probably really kick off!

hayley013 · 06/11/2018 20:48

@Thesnobbymiddleclassone we went to the first class then didn't go back.

My GTT is for low BMI, which I'm consultant led for too, though my BMI is definitely not low now, I've gained 1st 7lb so far 😳

Lulabell1 · 07/11/2018 00:30

Yessss 26weeks today!! Does that mean im in 3rd tri?

Gtt I have to have mine as runs in both sides of family but some is because low or high bmi dont panic if you havent got one its a blessing really!

Very tight belly last 2 days very uncomfortable wonder why

twiglet · 07/11/2018 06:55

@Lulabell1 2 more weeks for 3rd trimester it's from the start of week 28 that the NHS count as.

FrowningFlamingo · 07/11/2018 07:10

My consultant said that in some trusts they do offer GTT to everyone but I think in most places it's risk factors.
My BMI is 29 so very close to 30 so I asked for one. Plus there have been two stillbirths in my family from undiagnosed diabetes though they were both many years ago. The midwife was a bit funny about it as said I didn't meet the criteria but the consultant told her off a bit - was quite awkward tbh. Since then I've seen that a first degree relative is a risk factor meaning I should have the test anyway and I'm not sure whether they just didn't notice as I def told them my mum is diabetic!

FrowningFlamingo · 07/11/2018 07:14

@powkin after having a tricky time with a patient and being unsure what to do a few years ago one of the psychiatry consultants said to me that having mental health problems doesn't mean you're any less likely to just be a dickhead. So that we obviously have to support people if theyre unwell but doesn't mean we should tolerate abuse either. It's horrid when something like that happens though, I find myself dwelling on it for days. Hope you're feeling ok now.

emalady · 07/11/2018 08:18

We have booked NCT mostly to get to know other new parents too, ours is over 2 weekends as well as a separate session on breastfeeding and a meet up after. The hospital apparently also runs free antenatal classes but my midwife said there was no point in doing it if we are going to NCT.
I definitely feel like my bump has popped over the last couple of days, starting to look definitely pregnant rather than just fat!
We painted the nursery and made the furniture as well, starting to look like a nursery rather than a store room. Going to wash the baby clothes we have bought before putting them away now we have somewhere to put them.

Alicejj8x · 07/11/2018 09:54

Yes ours is that NCT ones too and I believe there free?

Notquiteagandt · 07/11/2018 09:57

@Alicejj8x I'm moving to by you.NCT courses are £285 around here. 😳 Don't begrudge it though really. As the money supports them. I bought a membership too. Worth it for the sales.

I left it too late to book the NHS one. Would of liked to have done it along side nct tbh but they where full by time I was 16w and nievely didnt think.

twiglet · 07/11/2018 10:40

We are going to NCT as well in January but ours was £150 they only offered 1 weekend and an evening class in our area.

Crazy on the price difference!

Alicejj8x · 07/11/2018 11:23

@Notquiteagandt wow really!!

I had a letter that I can book the courses on so now I am going to go back and look at my email although it says nothing about payment on my email?

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 07/11/2018 12:13

I’m not bothering with the classes, I found them a bit cringe with my other kids... I don’t really like to make friends tbh (I have some already.. 😂)

The information is all readily available online so I’ve not booked into any.

emalady · 07/11/2018 12:35

@notasgreenascabbagelooking if I had other kids I probably wouldn't bother but I'm looking forward to meeting some people for possible play dates etc. Can't imagine they are going to teach me much but might be good for DH.
@Alicerr I can't remember how much our NCT is but it wasn't cheap, definitely not free. I thought it was only the hospital ones that were free.

AliceRR · 07/11/2018 12:36

@twiglet @lulabell1 I thought third tri would be 27 weeks as I am 27 weeks on Sunday 11 Nov and due date is 10 Feb (less than three months from then)

Baby160P · 07/11/2018 12:44

This might clear it up

February 2019 babies - onwards and almost the third trimester!
Celebelly · 07/11/2018 12:48

Remember that you can't use calendar months to equal pregnancy months to that degree of accuracy: months are not four weeks exactly. Three calendar months is not 12 weeks.

Celebelly · 07/11/2018 12:49

Ah cross-posted and that pic explains it better

Yakadee · 07/11/2018 13:18

Yay I'm in 3rd tri this Sunday then as 28 weeks! X

Alicejj8x · 07/11/2018 13:40

Just emailed and the birth and beyond NCT class is free in my area :)

AliceRR · 07/11/2018 14:31

@Celebelly no but date of my last period was 7 May so to due date of 10 Feb is 9 months and 3 days. So in my mind makes sense to consider I would be 6 months and in third trimester by this Sunday 11th when reach 27 weeks (although appreciate what others have said!)

Celebelly · 07/11/2018 14:47

Last period doesn't really work either though outside of trying to date people before their dating scan. My last period was April 30 but I'm only due the day before you because I have longer cycles, so by using that method of calculation I would have a longer pregnancy than other people going off due date, but that's obviously not the case –my pregnancy 'length' is the same as everyone else's!

Being XX months pregnant is only something you use when describing to people roughly how far along you are as you don't generally use weeks outside of clinical settings (I wouldn't say to my gran that I'm 26 weeks, I'd say I'm about six months) - it's not actually an accurate measurement and can't really translate to trimesters in that way.
