5th thread!

Going by the pace of ‘Thread #4’, this could the last one as we might all have our babies by the time it runs out. Unless we all give detailed commentary during labour Grin.

Ohhh shiny new thread!

Exciting update for the first post. Anti D today in the arm not the bum! Still hurt tho Sad

mcnics · 21/04/2017 16:13

New thread :D 34 days left at work for me.. onto stage 3 of interview process for my role, then just got to sort out my assistants maternity cover, plus 4 new team leaders.. I swear I am just doing recruitment at the moment!!

29+2 today and after being the passenger (in the back of a small car) for 2 x 5.5 hour journeys in the last couple of days my back is killing me!

Started to acquire a few more bits now, second hand beautiful moses basket (only 4 months old!), angelcare baby monitor.. I think I am actually starting to tick some things off the list... just need the house to go through smoothly and for us to be in in the next 6 weeks - eek!

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 21/04/2017 16:13

Checking in!

I've just counted my days of work left, only 24 days to go spread over 7 weeks discounting bank hols and non working days.

30 weeks today, I still feel so far away although it looks like I'll be having an elective c section at 39 weeks so only 9 weeks to go!

nat2311 · 21/04/2017 16:23

24 working days left for me too! Smile

I've only joined since the 4th thread but edd 12th July x

rhodes2015 · 21/04/2017 16:24

38working days for me. Although how I felt at the start of the week I was gonna ask if I can leave a week earlier than I said but I feel loads better today so I'm gonna leave it for now!

LiusaidhJ · 21/04/2017 16:26

Hi, I've just joined mumsnet! Can I join the thread please? First baby due 13th July, feels like I'm getting much closer now the third trimester is here! Be good to chat with people in the same situation!

LiusaidhJ · 21/04/2017 16:26

Bit overkeen there - apologies for the million exclamation marks Blush

Kitsandkids · 21/04/2017 16:48

Hi, just joining the new thread!

ButterflyFree · 21/04/2017 17:09

Adding my details to the list since I was a new joiner on the 4th thread -

DC1 - EDD 29/07/17

DH and his team made it through to the most prestigious Cup Final in the country last night, which is wonderful news, although it might delay our departure from Dubai to London in May by a couple of days as his season will now be extended by an extra match! My first midwife appointment in London is booked for 1st June and we'll still be there in time for that anyway, plus the airline we're flying with allows pregnant ladies on board up to 36 weeks with a doctor's note. So that should be more than fine.

We went to see 'The Boss Baby' at the cinema this afternoon and you can really tell I'm swimming with pregnancy hormones because even the animated babies in a children's movie got me all emotional 😅😂🙈

TinklingTheIvories · 21/04/2017 17:58

Just counted, I think I've got 49 days at work left... but only really 30 or so to worry about as after the gcse's I'm not expected in class after then, so it becomes a desk job pretty much. There's the odd bit of teaching, but I'll be getting ready for having a year off Smile

glitterglitters · 21/04/2017 18:28

Lol I replied on the old thread. Doh!
@Notyetthere we basically spent less than we could have. I was only on about £18k at the time and we based our affordability on that at Black Friday rates.

Luckily the area we are in isn't hugely expensive but a lot of properties have been developed that have bumped the local prices.

DH has thrown lots back into the house as well.

We don't go without much but we are very careful :)

Lallypopstick · 21/04/2017 21:39

Got my NCT breastfeeding class tomorrow. Not sure what they'll talk about for three hours but it will be good to see the group again after a break since our 'proper' classes.

Continuing on from the last thread, I'm also doing shared parental leave. I started a new job very recently and would feel guilty taking a full year off as I originally planned. OH and I are in the NHS and I'm a couple of pay bands above him so it makes sense money-wise. However, I do think it'll be lovely for him to have 3 months off with the baby, and in my head he'll be able to pop up with little one on my lunch break.

CatRash · 21/04/2017 21:52

Just bookmarking the shiny new thread :)

SelfObsessionHoney · 22/04/2017 15:50

Hi ladies, I've not posted in ages. Hope everyone is well!
I've managed to get through to 29 weeks with only mild SPD and acquiring two piles!
Currently having a polite argument with my community midwives about the complete lack of antenatal classes available in my area, the company they were contracted out to under the NHS is no longer providing them and the midwives are supposed to be continuing the service however nothing is up and running yet, and there's no way I can afford to pay NCT prices. So me and DP are doing an online course, but it's just not the same. And I'm gutted. And more than a little anxious.

Notyetthere · 22/04/2017 18:42

Self I also don't have any NHS antenatal classes either. Same thing about company that provides them won't do it anymore and the midwives are not either. My community midwife said they will do a breastfeeding class towards due date. Which online classes are you doing? I haven't even started to look into any classes and if online, I need to pin DH down to settle long enough to watch them with me. Your health trust doesn't happen to be Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells?

OP posts:
LuciBee231015 · 22/04/2017 20:11

We did our first NCT class today. 10-4! Got same again next Saturday and then the following Saturday is 2-4 on breastfeeding. Although I've read many books on being pregnant and labour, I think today really helped. It just solidified my knowledge and made me feel more confident. Also was really useful for DH. Lots about why things happen and what he can be doing so he found it really useful too. Had a great a really friendly group of people too, a right mix so hopefully will have some new mummy friends out of it too. There was no cringeworthyness either. Everyone relaxed into it straight away. Actually looking fw to the next session!

Had a bday party of one of my best friends last night and didn't get home until 1.30am so was shattered by the end, laid down when I got home and fell asleep and I've just woke up! Not going to sleep properly tonight now!

SelfObsessionHoney · 22/04/2017 22:16

notyethere nah I'm up north. But sounds a very similar story.
I've just signed up to the free ones on baby centre, basically you just read through them.
I'm going to take myself off to a local breastfeeding support group in a few weeks to gather extra info.

Notyetthere · 23/04/2017 00:11

Luci glad you enjoyed your NCT class. Looks like you will make friends there which is why I originally wanted to do them but at £245 near me, I decided not to do them. We decided it's best we used that money elsewhere. I remember seeing new mums at the local baby group when I went for the booking in appointment where they had come for breastfeeding support so I will be using them too. Lots of other activities there too.

Self yes I have seen those ones on baby centre and read through most of them on the train to/from work. They also have lots of accompanying videos which I intend to watch with dh.

30 weeks today and as planned I started on my hospital bag. Baby's bag is already packed. My stuff are starting to pile up in a corner in baby's wardrobe. I have put witch hazel, aloe vera and lavender in my Boots basket for the postpartum pads- apparently they are very soothing. I will prepare a few closer to due date and put them in the freezer; assuming it's a normal birth and not csection. I have added an old strappy cotton nightie knee length that will be useful for just dropping the strap to breastfeed. I have put snacks into our tesco basket ready for next food shopping delivery. Hope dh's digestive biscuits don't expire in the next 2 months. We will also take a pack of newborn starter milk with teets but we will buy that closer to the time so that we have a ready supply of baby milk if required. I will get dh to put all of items into the bag so that he knows where everything is if I end up immobile.

Crisscrosscranky · 23/04/2017 17:33

A friend picked these up for me in our local Tesco Extra this afternoon- reduced from £17.50 to 88p! Bottles now ticked off my to buy list as I have 3 packs for a grand total of £2.64 Shock

LuciBee231015 · 23/04/2017 18:27

Crisscross what a bloody bargain! Can't get better than that! They are the ones that you can sterilize in the microwave without an actually steriliser aren't they?

I am planning to breast feed so bottles are a bit of an after thought for me. I have a few tommee tippee ones that could start me off if I had to bottle feed but would need to stock up on more. Going to see how it goes first.

Crisscrosscranky · 23/04/2017 19:30

@LuciBee231015 yes, they are- very nifty!

I managed to feed DD1 for the first week but switched to bottles as I had a touch time with it- planning on trying again this time but won't be beating myself up if I can't as I struggled with the decision last time and felt I'd failed!

danigrace · 23/04/2017 21:27

Hi girls Smile have missed you all! Work is crazy busy here at the moment and we're doing really long hours. Had today off to batch cook for the week and finish painting babies room. Am now soaking in a bubble bath and plan on staying here for a while!!

@SelfObsessionHoney would you qualify for a reduction in costs for NCT? We got ours reduced by 90% to £18 something bc we get working tax credits. Even without tax credits there are hefty deductions available on a sliding scale.

Twixes · 23/04/2017 21:32

Checking in to the new thread, haven't been here in a while :)

parsnips82 · 23/04/2017 22:31

Hello fellow preggos!
Does anyone tried the belly bandit bump protectors??
I keep wanted to hold my belly when I walk to stop it moving around and wondered if it would help?

Twixes · 24/04/2017 08:45

Haven't tried a bump protector parsnip so no help there I'm afraid, I did have a belt for SPD last time that was quite good. Is it similar?

Feeling very stressed out over here. My consultant does growth scans at most appointments and this baby has been measuring a lot smaller than DS throughout. This didn't worry me at first because I know I'm expecting a girl and thought maybe she takes after her dad who was a teeny baby when born (4 and a half lbs). But at my appointment a week and a half ago baby's abdomen has dropped down the curve and was measuring in the 8th centile. I now have an extra growth scan on Friday which I'm quite worried about. Can't help thinking all kinds of things could be wrong.

I know a lot of people will say some people just have small babies, but the thing is I know I don't! my DS was consistently high on the centiles all through pregnancy and had (and still has) a head in the 95th centile! This week is going to drag so badly Sad
