I was just about to post to say sorry for starting the July thread and then disappearing, then saw that it was all full up! So I thought I would start us a new one.

Hello to all the many many ladies that have joined the July club - it's lovely to see so many of us here. I've been trying to read back through all the old posts, but there are so many, that's partly why it's taken me so long to get back! Have also been having some personal troubles, but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm 12 weeks today and slightly looking forward to my scan on Christmas Eve, but also nervous in case it's not good news. I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again and hearing how you and your bumps are going.

OP posts:

Was just going to reply to Gaga when.....

Thanks madabout, I've copied stats across.

Looks like there are lots of currently being quite poorly, the MS and seasonal sniffles abound...wonder how many of us are curled up on the sofa still in 'jamas.

I'm in a listening mood if you need to share the personal stuff mad

Finally told my best female friend last night (she actually guessed and couldn't say "no" when asked) and her response when I said I hadn't told her because I'd been so worried something would go wrong was to tell me she understood how I felt as even though I'm now very nearly "in the safe time" now her friend recently had a miscarriage very close to 12 weeks. So now of course I'm panicking again! Why do people say things like that? There's no need! Trying to reassure myself with the statistic I found that says after a heartbeat has been seen at 10 weeks the chance of a continuing pregnancy is 99.4%

How is everyone? It's snowing again here just for a change Xmas Hmm

scrivette · 19/12/2010 13:33

Hello everyone.

I am staying in today as there is lots of snow around and it has been snowing for the last couple of hours.

I have spent all morning doing the masses of washing up I haven't been able to face for the last few days. I need to wrap the Christmas presents too, is everyone prepared for Christmas?

OIckletownofbethlehem · 19/12/2010 13:43

highheels I've been told so many horror tories too - had I known how people would feel the need to share all pregnancy tragedies they've ever heard to any newly pregnant friend, I'd have kept my mouth shut longer. Its surprising too considering how many of our friends have had happy health pregnancies and births.

scrivette, still have wrapping to do, do not yet have tree up and am trying to write Chritmas food shopping list...failing miserably...so totally unprepared. Will also be holing up and avoiding the icky weather today.

highheelsandequations · 19/12/2010 13:50

scrivette I am completely unprepared, it's so not like me! Dreading Christmas just now and I usually love it!

FrostyPhlebas · 19/12/2010 14:01

Hi everyone! Finally had my booking appointment this morning (at the hospital there are no appointments at all with the CMWs they are so busy Shock ) .. it was with a mw that I've seen in the last two pregnancies so that was nice.

She's completely freaked me out though :( I'm 12+1 today & she offered to try and find the hb & of course she couldn't despite trying for ages. The last couple of times they've found it at 12 weeks which is just making me feel worse. She says probably too early - I have a scan on Tuesday - wish I'd asked her not to bother now :( I'm totally stressing - scan at 10 weeks was fine, still loads of symptoms - trying to stop myself thinking how shit it would be to have mc at Christmas :(

Argh ... dh has taken the children to MIL's for the day so I can try and get some Christmas organising done & of course now I can''t concentrate on anything. I'm going to be a gibbering mess by Tuesday afternoon.

FessaEst · 19/12/2010 15:17

Hi, can I join in please? I lurked for a bit at the start of the old thread, then pottered off, and am now back!

I am about 9 weeks, due 21st July-ish and feeling pants! The sickness is getting worse and I am coldy too. I have a 13 month old DD who is also ill, so the lack of sleep is not helping.

I am completely with all of you who are worried. it is so scary isn't it? I can't wait for my scan in 3 weeks. I am so tempted to try and get a private one before Christmas to put my mind at rest, but then I feel like frosty and think it would be better to not know over Christmas.

frosty - I have never heard of them checking for a hb that early before, so please try not to worry. Your other 2 were definitely exceptions to the rule, as the womb doesn't get above the pelvic bones til later (apparently) so much more normal not to hear. My MW struggled to find DD's hb every single time, even when she was clearly kicking the monitor, as I had a placenta at the front in the way. Good luck for Tues.

Just adding myself:

Had another fall today Blush

Then had a major panic attack when I had a little spotting on loo paper.

Even more Blush when I worked out today would've been my second missed period!

sues1974 · 19/12/2010 16:32

Hi Ladies, was just about to start amother thread but thought better check first so thanks for starting this one madabout i was only looking the other day to see if youd posted as was worried wed not heard from you since the begining, glad its all going well.
Hey buttonmoon youre spotting might be because it would of been your period. dont know why but some people spot around the time of their missed period for the first month or 2. as a previous bleeder i was always told that it would be fresh red blood with bad crapping or pains if you were to mc, so fingers crossed its just 'normal' what you have.
suz xx
ps FINALLY got all my pressies wrapped, never thought it was going to get done - phew!

OIckletownofbethlehem · 19/12/2010 18:28

you should wrap yourelf in bubble wrap button, you're not allowed out until spring!!

Anyone else watching Noel's Christmas presents and blubbing like a baby??

fallingandlaughing · 19/12/2010 20:35

Yay our second thread!

I am 9+1 now and suffering the morning sickness I once wished on myself..

So weird to think there is a tiny person bouncing around in there. i can't quite get my head round it. Looking forward to my next scan on 12/01.

Briefly had some weird prickly pains above my belly button yesterday. Anyone else?

Ickle the strangest things are making me cry - and get mad. Threw a major strop today when DP tried to tickle me Confused

cara2244 · 19/12/2010 20:35

buttonmoon be careful in that snow! I slipped on the ice today and it hurt my back.

Thanks for all your nice comments on the other thread about me feeling better :)
It was such a change to feel normal this morning - i went for a long walk, wrapped some pressies, did some hoovering....then crashed completely. Spent 2 hours asleep this afternoon! BUT the sickness is massively better today.

MIL has told yet more people about the pregnancy grrrr, so I told my dad on the phone today. His OH was whooping in the background! I really hope everything is OK when I have a scan as there will be a lot of people to tell if it's bad news. It's so hard to just hide away and get through the 1st trimester when it's Christmas time.
Still no date for the scan.

Dynababy · 19/12/2010 20:45

Hello all havent really been on since joining. Fessest I'm also due 21st July!

Frosty sorry your mw freaked you out , sure if all was well at 10 weeks it will be good news tuesday, have heard its fairly common not to find the heartbeat.

I my booking appt tomorrow morning so no doubt I'll be freaed out then! I also booked a private ealy scan for the afternoon and really really hope they find it well...this is such a worrying time and I'm with you highheels people should stop scaring pregnant ladies with horror stories!!

Snowy here in Edinburgh so I am in jammies snuggled under blanket..ah!

Pesha · 19/12/2010 20:51

Hi all, no chance of catching up on last thread but I have read this one and will try very hard to keep up with it a bit, although I may not manage that till after christmas!!

Have my scan tomorrow and early screening tests. Had a scan at 8weeks when in hospital with sickness but all I could make out was a blob with a heart beat so looking forward to seeing something more baby like this time! For the first time I have not really been worrying about this pg, not sure why but possibly because I've been so ill and also so busy I've just not had a chance to! Seem to be coming out the other side of the MS too, its still there but not all the time and I'm starting to feel human again and getting things done, have spent most of today cooking for christmas! Am still on 2 types of tablets for the sickness though and not quite sure how I'm supposed to go about coming off them but I'm certain I'm not ready for that yet!

Trying to get prepared for christmas Scrivette, I had so many plans before the MS started but have had to abandon most of them. I am about half way through wrapping and almost finished present shopping, I've got all my dc's presents which afaic is the most important bit, now just some family bits left to buy. I've cooked some bits for the freezer today but still have a fair few things to do, for some reason everyone has invited themselves to me this year so I have my sis,her dd and my dad coming on thurs, in laws on Friday evening, friends coming all day sat and my mum and step dad on one of the bank holidays! But all this with 3 kids, working tues and wed and no car so will have to walk into town and everywhere is covered in snow and ice!! But work is childminding and only have one 2yo so can probably get her helping with the mince pies!

Have updated my age in the stats as I've had my birthday now, ages ago so not fishing for birthday wishes!! Wink

Hi Pesha, I've had to abandon any non-essential Xmas plans too, and LO's 2nd birthday on Saturday was seriously scanty! But I think that made it better and he had a good time.

Do any of you ladies practice yoga regularly? I usually practice everyday and do a weekly class but am finding it almost impossible with the morning sickness (it was the same last pregnancy). Any postures that help the nausea?!? Is there anything in the world that helps it lol... :)

Pesha · 19/12/2010 21:08

Sorry that sounds quite dismissive and patronising saying I'm not worrying, I didn't mean it to.
I'm kinda worried that I'm not worried, thinking perhaps this is going to be the time I should have been. I think when I was so sick I just stopped thinking of myself as being pg, I knew I was obviously but just didnt think about it as a baby at all, quite possibly instinctively to stop myself resenting the baby? I can certainly see how aversion therapy works, there are several smells and other things I have come to associate with being sick that I really cannot stand anymore!
Also seeing the heart beat at 8 wks reassured me alot, in the past I've never had a scan till 12 weeks. And I think I've felt it move this last week, I know its ridiculously early but I'm pretty sure thats what it is. My bump has definitely popped up and out of my pelvis the last week, this morning it was right up to my belly button but all towards the left side, I think due to how I sleep (kind of recovery position so lying on the right side of my tummy!), it sinks down a bit during the day!

Anyway, I didnt mean to be dismissive of other people worrying, I always have in the past, I think I've just gone a bit weird this time!! Confused

Pesha · 19/12/2010 21:16

Well the drugs have been quite good!!
I've found a few things that have helped a little but only for a couple of days and then I go off them again! Lucozade was good for a while, tonic water, toast and marmite, sucking mints, fruit pastilles, ginger biscuits (only worked for 1 afternoon very early on!), bitter lemon, soup. Can't really stomach any of them anymore! Except tonic water which is yummy with elderflower cordial.

But no don't know much about yoga I'm afraid, have you googled?!

Am having to be very careful physically as SPD is returning already and cannot spread my legs anymore!!

Hi again everyone. Feeling knackered today - but just figure the mix of pregnancy, a lively 2 year old and house renovation are to blame! Looking forward to two weekends off DIY due to Christmas and new year.

My sickness has abated quite a lot and generally feeling a lot better but getting quite a lot of headaches (and never find paracetmol quite hits the mark but don't like to take anything else in pregnancy) and still very tired.

Thought I had my booking appointment with the midwife on Thursday but turns out she just took a few details and the norm is to visit each expectant mother at home for an hour or so to go through everything!! So she is coming tomorrow (snow dependent)Wasn't like that in my last practice. Think it is not surprising that our local PCT is in massive debt but happy to have the attention given to me!

Glad to hear I am not the only one showing a bit already - definitely quicker second time round - that will be the lack of stomach muscles then.

I too have had to scrap many Xmas plans/activities in the run up I've had many many days where just getting thru to bedtime a major achievement housework backseat too as well as my lovely dh. As long as kids ok that's been my only goal. Looking forward to fresh new year second trimester bloom!

Ivegotmrbitey · 20/12/2010 09:28

Oooh nicola Please bring on the bloom! I am a wreck and feel so ugly. I had lost loads of weight before my wedding in May and am already back in my fat clothes. My face is as white as chalk except for the black circles around my eyes, the pimples all over it and the eczema around my mouth. My hair is quite nice though Xmas Smile! I heard an old wives tale that you get particularly minging if you are having a girl as she is "taking your beauty", I suspect I may be growing the next Kate Moss if that's the case!

Can someone tell me to stop moaning please and to get a sense of perspective!

Godd luck with the scans ladyGGG and oIckle

cara the only thing that is helping me with the MS is eating as soon as I feel sick. Yesterday I was being sick upstairs while my husband made me marmite and toast downstairs. As soon as I got a whiff of it I stopped puking! This may explain the two dress size weight gain...

nicolamumof3 · 20/12/2010 10:30

mrbitey, sounds just like me!!
And a 3yo and 4yo mega excited about xmas and on hols doesn't help. Oh and an 11yo who doesn't stop talking grrr!!!

Agree now with MS just have to eat as soon as i feel sick, few weeks ago i couldn't even do that tho, i couldn't eat or drink a thing so this is great progress i have to remind myself!

MissLolita · 20/12/2010 12:00

Hi ladies, Good luck with all the scans!

I spent almost 2 hours this morning trying to get through to the ultrasound department after receiving a letter on Saturday morning informing me my first scan would be 20 January when I would have been 16+4 using LMP date! I finally managed to speak to a really helpful receptionist who listened patiently and went through my notes and spotted that my mw had put October not September for my LMP and hence the clinic thought I would still be in the right time-frame window. They have managed to fit me in over a lunchtime in between Christmas and New Year which is a huge relief as I was about to go off and book another private scan.

I think I may have angered the pregnancy gods this weekend. For the first time in ages I woke up feeling really quite well and I managed to stay up past 10.30pm on Saturday! However, I made the mistake of commenting that I thought I might be through the worst of the exhaustion, headaches and nausea. Of course today I feel like death. Everything on the walk to the station made me feel sick this morning and I have a banging headache and am feeling rather sorry for myself?:(

LadyGoneGaga · 20/12/2010 13:06

Back from scan. Xmas Grin

Little wriggly, baked potato with a heartbeat of 176. Measuring just about spot on for 8+4(one day out, 1.9cm!) so feel very reassured and going to try and enjoy this now. Blubbed my head off. Then blubbed again in supermarket at all the Mum's with two children happily playing with each other. Wahhh.

Thanks for everyone's good wishes. Hope the other ladies having scans today have a good experience too.

Got booking in appt with Midwife this afternoon - all starting to feel a bit real. And in maternity clothes today as just feel too fat and uncomfy Shock

GruffaloMama · 20/12/2010 13:08

Oh lolita poor you. I thought I was through the MS but have just spent this morning trying not to hurl at work. And so cold I don't want to go outside to get some fresh air. So tired...

I got more done at the weekend than I expected though still have to:

  • put up tree & decorate
  • go to laundrette (washing machine doesn't like the cold)
  • make mincepies
  • visit neighbour with said mince pies
  • tidy house for MIL and FIL arriving on Thurs
  • buy some more pressies and wrap all pressies
  • do the final shop before xmas

And work full time until Thurs. Oh god.

nicolamumof3 · 20/12/2010 13:20

oh gruffalo and i thought i had alot on my plate. hope you can get some help with that lot!

LadyGG congrats on the scan!! so so lovely isn't it. I had mine at 8+3 was really reassuring and worth every penny.

Still waiting on 12w scan appointment probably lost in post im wondering if i should ring? But nightmare with all boys off ds1 will probably overhear me. So will just wait impatiently Xmas Grin
