Thoughts on the name Wybie?

we really like this name for our baby boy but everyone we have told in real life hates it and says he would be bullied as he grows older. But this generation of children has all sorts of names and I don’t think it’s a name that’s bully worthy?

Ah that’s a new one on me.

Is it pronounced Why - be or Wibby?

BatchCookBabe · 21/10/2025 13:48

Have you googled the name @Lilacbluewaters I suggest you this before you give your son this name.

Oh, and ... no...

Tamfs · 21/10/2025 13:48

From Coraline?

It's not to my taste if I'm honest. And I think he could be haunted by "Whyyyyyyyy'.

Mydogisagentleman · 21/10/2025 13:48

I've never seen or heard it.
I suppose every name has to start somewhere

He's in the Coraline movie.

I think there are much better names op.

What is it you like about it and perhaps we can suggest others?

Bluebottlerecycling · 21/10/2025 13:51

I see it’s short for Wyborn (which means warrior). I think I prefer the full name.

Radiatorvalves · 21/10/2025 13:52

It’s a no from me. I’d be “What??” And “Why be? Why on earth?” Definitely no.

Honestly just thought it was a nice name. I’d like a boy name ending in the ee sound but can’t for the life of me find anything else I like!

Never seen Coraline, but Google tells me the character is Wybie, full name Wyborne. As in 'why were you born'.

I can't imagine knowing my parents named me after that, it would be awful.

17caterpillars1mouse · 21/10/2025 13:53

Its just awful, really.

If you like the why sound you could go with Wyatt? Or the bee sound maybe Albie?

childofthe607080s · 21/10/2025 13:53

Why be an idiot?

I don’t like either of those

People need to stop naming their babies names that won’t grow with them.

can you really picture a 30 year old Wybie.

Everything’s cute when they’re little but think to the future.

Dreadful

putthekettleonn · 21/10/2025 13:57

It has a horrible sound to it, as well as being a verb and conjunction put together but spelled stupidly, instead of an actual name. I don't think there's any redeeming qualities.
