Thoughts on the name Wybie?

we really like this name for our baby boy but everyone we have told in real life hates it and says he would be bullied as he grows older. But this generation of children has all sorts of names and I don’t think it’s a name that’s bully worthy?

We had 'Can I call my baby Myra?' last week but honestly I think this is worse.

Salvadoridory · 21/10/2025 15:36

Why (b) would you do that to an innocent child

Linzloopy · 21/10/2025 15:37

Awful. He’d be subject to a lifetime of teasing along the lines of "Why be so stupid?" etc.

PinkyFlamingo · 21/10/2025 15:39

It's awful. Can't believe there is one person who likes it - you, never mind you're partner to!

Catwalking · 21/10/2025 15:40

if you haven’t already, try looking @ urban dictionary ……
Id pity any child with this name 😳.

Goldbar31 · 21/10/2025 15:41

Definitely not

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 21/10/2025 15:41

I like it! There are several names like that, all great:

Wybie
Whereto
Howso
Whatfor
Whenthen

Top, top boys’ names.

wandererofthekingdom · 21/10/2025 15:43

Wybie the baby, its awful

madaboutpurple · 21/10/2025 15:43

I am sure there are better names to choose from.

Tagliateriroa · 21/10/2025 15:45

What about Herbie or Howie. Similar tone but less random

Catcatcat111 · 21/10/2025 15:46

That is horrible. Even more so now I’ve seen it comes from Why were you born.

VIOLETPUGH · 21/10/2025 15:46

its great then you when you have another you can call that one wynot !!! 😂

Ophy83 · 21/10/2025 15:46

I wouldn't, for a number of reasons:

  1. It's a name invented for a book, and has a horrible meaning in that book.
  2. The author who invented it is the subject of a sex scandal, rape allegations etc.
  3. People won't know how to pronounce it.
  4. For the above reasons, the child may dislike the name. At best they are likely to be on the receiving end of questions about the name.
JeansJeanies · 21/10/2025 15:46

I love an out there name but that's just in another galaxy - awful - sorry

Honestly just thought it was a nice name. I’d like a boy name ending in the ee sound but can’t for the life of me find anything else I like!

Alfie? Not my favourite but it’s pretty mainstream.

Lilacbluewaters · 21/10/2025 13:49

Pronounced Why-be

Why is the question!? This isn’t a name it’s a jumble of letters

limescale · 21/10/2025 15:50

I have not seen Coraline.
It sounds like a weight loss drug or a cheap airline.

Wellnowlookhere · 21/10/2025 15:52

This puzzles me too - “we” really like??!!

AbbeyGrange · 21/10/2025 15:54

God that's awful OP, why do that to your kid?

Sorry OP, I think it’s a terrible name and I usually just think each to their own but not with this.

What about Jimmy, Billy, Harry or Bradley if you like that ee sound?

Plinkyplankplonk · 21/10/2025 15:56

Easy to take the mick out of at school

Why be sad
Why be mad

Etc

Bluegreenlake · 21/10/2025 15:57

I hate the name.

fussychica · 21/10/2025 15:58

Whybie so awful to a child. It's just dreadful. Sorry but you did ask.
